I get your point, I really do. And I know it’s hard, really hard, and time consuming. But I never asked Affinity for a timeline or the like. I am simply wondering if they are developing something (as previously mentioned in these forums) or not (as some recent twitter posts suggest).

Look, I would be thrilled if Apple would pick up their old Aperture, modernize the whole damn thing and keep it under active development again. But I don’t think that this is going to happen. Apple forgot about the photo enthusiasts and professionals. And Adobe’s paths with Lightroom and Photoshop are just so confusing to me.

That’s why I hoped Affinity would step in. I like their way of thinking and their commitment to the photography community and mobile platforms (AP for iPad is just killer!). Every product they released so far is just awesome (maybe minus the RAW development module in AP). So when I read about them working on a DAM about 2 years ago, I was excited and thought: that’s gonna be it! Now I don’t know what to think anymore because they leave us in the dark.

I have to second your thoughts!

Their talking about a DAM being in development made me buy AP and supporting the company that way. I would hate to start my search for a longterm Aperture switch from scratch...

  2. Hi,

On a German keyboard, the default keys for changing brush size are not usable; keys '[' and ']' must be entered by pressing Alt+5 and Alt+6. Therefore, I redefined the keys to use '<' and '>' instead which works fine, but only for brushes. I cannot use them to resize the tool size in the liquify perspective nor for brush overlays in the HDR perspective. I think they should work everywhere where I want to increase and decrease a tool size while working.

Furthermore in the preferences dialog, I think, the setting should not be placed under paint brush but in a more common (generic) category.

I would even like to extend this. Can we have the possibility to change brush size with the mouse wheel? Maybe in conjunction with modifiers?

  3. Hi Allsop,

    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Affinity Photo doesn't manage libraries, it's just a RAW converter/developer and photo editing software. You have to keep using Lightroom to manage your libraries. We have plans to develop our own DAM (digital assets management) software but it will take a while until that happens.

What you can do it set up Lightroom to use Affinity Photo as an external editor in Lightroom Preferences.

Sad to hear that this "will take a while until that happens". I jumped on the AP wagon just a week ago, not only because a DAM is over a year in development it seems. At least forum posts lead to that conclusion.

Using AP as a external editor is no real choice for anyone using RAW, or for everyone wanting a non destructive development.

I am still using Aperture but concurrently try to find new ways for working on my photos, as I fear the day Aperture will stop working on my system. So hopefully Affinity is ready to serve that day, and I have not bet on the wrong horse....

    best regards
