This reordering issue on opening docs/creating new files has been previously logged with the developers, I'll update the existing report to reflect that it still affects the current version and bump it with your report.

When the Text Ruler is displayed, the cursor won't turn from an I-beam cursor to an Arrow cursor.. it doesn't detect the to-middle text box resize handle

I would be keen to see Serif put out a survey to determine who would buy a linux version. Affinity is the last bastion that keeps me locked into either Mac or Windows, everything else I use runs in Linux. And I love Affinity so much that I would buy it again on Linux. The work Wanesty and others have done is so incredible — I'm so grateful — but a native port of the software would be something I would pay for in a flash. I understand it's likely not commercially viable (but maybe it is, there is likely no data to make a determination at the moment).

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, Affinity Publisher > About).
If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update, or in the application main menu there is an option Check for Updates. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Publisher for macOS) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Mac app store purchases, which update through the Mac App Store).

With respect, the actual figure for general Linux desktop users in November 2022 according to Statcounter was 2.77%.
That said, that figure is not nearly enough for many companies to consider viably porting their software over to Linux unless the existing software is already cross platform Qt-based, for example (the Affinity products are not). Therefore, I fully understand Serif Europe's position on this matter. People also forget that Serif Europe is 100x smaller than the Adobe Corporation and so they just don't have the resources that Adobe do.
So what should us Linux users do then? (me included)
There are three things that can be done:
1. In the case of Affinity Photo, consider using Linux-friendly alternatives like PhotoGimp ( = less sucky Gimp), Photopea, Krita or PhotoLine + Wine (Photoshop versions CS6 and CS2 also work well with Wine). 2. Try out Photo, Designer and Publisher on Linux by using Windows as a guest operating system in a virtual environment (VirtualBox or VMware) as illustrated in forum member Hartmut Doering's post below:
 
3. it is completely pointless to keep on asking Serif Europe staff on these forums to port Photo, Designer and Publisher to Linux because they have made it crystal clear on numerous occasions that this is not going to happen.
It is far more logical for Linux users to instead head over to CodeWeavers' CrossOver forums and ask them to please make it a priority for CrossOver to work well with Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher.

That's a strange statement. You are trying to "punish" a company for not doing something you wanted it to do but which it never said it would and that expressed in many situations it wouldn't? hum...

This new decision will need us to implement it. We need to decide whether it's in everyone's account or on this sort of public page. We will tell customers when we know how we plan to implement it.
 

Hi all. Thanks for your patience over the weekend when our offices were closed.
We've had a meeting this morning and decided to ALSO offer MSI installers to those people who would like them. I can't tell you when this will happen, as there is engineering work that will be required to allow this to happen, but we hope it won't be long.

Just my two cents:
-What you guys have achieved in this thread is AMAZING and I never imagined Affinity would bother to help make their suite usable in Linux. I’m proud that the price I paid for the Affinity suite also helps to bring us things like this. And also a big thanks to the community!
-To the Affinity team: don’t feed the trolls and Linux fundamentalists (they are often the same), they are usually solitary people with too much free time and they don’t know how to keep themselves distracted. Just keep doing the fantastic work you’ve done so far.
-In my opinion, Linux market share being “ridiculous” could be tricky. It doesn’t mean it’s not attractive, because “probably” most of that 3% market share consists of power users or at least users with sophisticated interests. Why does DaVinci Resolve have a Linux version? Or Blender, Houdini, Cinema 4D and other powerful creative and post production tools? Because they are aimed at a minority with very specific needs (and a lot of money to spend). Saying “making a professional graphics editor for Linux is pointless because Linux market share is ridiculous'' is like saying “making peripherals for streamers is pointless because the streaming market share is ridiculous” compared to the general market. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not telling Affinity what to do, it’s just a thought.
To me, being able to run Affinity Photo via Wine is a dream come true and literally means breaking the ONLY bond I had with Windows.

hopefully, Thomas you saw MEB figured it out. Some of us old indesign/quark users are just trying to figure the affinity publisher ins and outs.

because section markers are not very flexible, having in mind that they aren't repositioned automaticaly together with the text, I suggest linking section start with a paragraph style. Say, we want section start when a "Chapter" (or "Author", "Heading 1"...) style is applyed to a chapter title. So, when adding or deleting text moves the Chapter title to another page, the new section marker goes with it.
This is extremly useful when a book is a collection of papers from different authors and they want the footnotes to restart from 1.

Agreed. Affinity has made their position clear on this forum and Twitter, at least, that they are happy with the way things are. Quite frankly, it is their company which they formed to do what they wanted to do. As a business owner of more than 20 years, comments and suggestions are always welcome and occasionally, gratefully, implemented. However, nothing is more irritating than when someone waltzes into your company demanding that they rearrange the universe on their behalf. Whereas I am disappointed that there isn't an Affinity Suite for Linux, since native apps always work best, I respect their choices. And kudos to them for trying to help out people attempting alternate installations!😎

I use all three OS's at different times but my overriding preference is Mac OS. I set up a laptop with Linux Mint 20 and it's such a nice experience that I find myself spending more and more time using it (I'm a web / app developer primarily). I've tried to get Photo / Designer running in Linux but other than using a virtualized OS it hasn't happened. Having Affinity's products running on Linux would SERIOUSLY mess with my head: I'd probably find myself using Linux more than Mac OS and I've never been in that situation before! But I'd love to find out how things pan out in that case.

I'm developer and can tell you, that most companies are moving also their main os from windows to linux in terms of optimal and secure development environment. Maybe that's the reason why microsoft are aiming to use Linux Kernel in future and just set their own desktop on top. 
And I think as soon some graphic players moving their tools like Affinity or Photoshop to Linux, the private market is moving in big steps to linux desktop too.
So I'm not wondering the high interest, because many I know are searching for tools with linux support and decide then to switch the OS.
But if they don't find their tools, they stay at windows or mac...
