  1. Thanks for your reply. My workflow has always been (in InDesign before Publisher) to have all my documents as tabs on my left hand monitor, filling that screen. My right hand monitor is filled with tools/palettes. When I start up V2 and open a document, I have to click in the doc window first (it appears behind all my palettes), then click Float in the Window menu, then drag the window across to the left hand monitor, then resize it. Laborious, but consistent and predictable. The bug behavior happens when I open a second document, expecting it to be added to the existing window on the left. Instead it replaces it, and the first one is not only gone, but can't be opened. It is now invisible/lost to Publisher. Other, different documents will open as tabs in the left hand window. The only way to open that first document is to close all open documents and start over. My current workaround is to first open a fake/dummy Publisher page I've created, and move it to the left screen. It then disappears when I open the file I want to work on. I hope that's clear.
  2. Update: The issue I described above is the same in 2.1 - I'll add that the first doc I opened (which disappears when I open a second doc) will not open unless I close all document windows. Is this a bug?
  3. I'm trying to understand how v2 handles multiple document windows. I use 2 displays. I have my documents on the left (portrait) screen and my palettes on the right (landscape) screen. I open a doc, select "float window", drag the doc to the left screen (and resize it). I then open a second doc. It appears on the left screen, but the first doc has disappeared! This happens every time I try to do this. I haven't found an answer in the Help or this forum. What am I doing wrong here?
  4. I'll add more info about what I've learned since my post above. Opening the IDML in V2 gives the same result. The placed INDD file info is actually in the IDML file. InDesign opens the IDML file and everything's there. I sent a test file to Markzware to see if their INDD/IDML conversion was any different - no luck. So, I think I've confirmed that the problem is the way Publisher opens an IDML file that's made from an INDD file that contains other, linked INDD files. The issue is important for me because I have hundreds of files like this (some of them hundreds of pages) that need occasional updates (I do rural water systems). I would love to convert them all to AFPUB. I already use Publisher for all new documents. Thank you to all the Affinity folk for making great software.
  5. I'm opening some IDML files (many linked graphics) from CS5 in Publisher (1.10.6). Many work fine, but some have blank pages showing a large X. These show in Layers as IDML picture frames. No links in Resources. The problem seems to be with INDD files placed within INDD files. They don't seem to make it into the IDML. Is there something I should be doing in InDesign before exporting as IDML? I tried packaging - no luck. Suggestions welcomed. Apologies if I'm missing something really obvious . . .
  6. In Publisher 1.8.1, under the File menu, is "Export as template."
  7. Thank you. I don't want to seem too critical of the help. I just wanted to explain that I did check help before asking here. Searching for clip, canvas, pasteboard, workspace, etc. gave no useful info. View is the key. I would expect Serif to see work on the software as higher priority than updating the help. Meanwhile, we're fortunate that people like you can help us newbies out.
  8. And where did you find "clip to canvas"? I have the same issue and help searches were not helpful. Thanks
  9. I’m also coming to Publisher as an InDesign user since version 1. I’m really impressed, and I’m enjoying the learning experience. I’m grateful that the kind people here are able to cover the gaps in the documentation. I look forward to the workbook, and hope that eventually something as comprehensive as the Kvern/Blatner InDesign books becomes available.
  10. Thank you. Indeed simple, but I was not able to find this in the Help or tutorials.
  11. I’ve been looking to duplicate an InDesign behavior. In ID, when I’m editing text, I can use the command key to temporarily switch to the selection tool, and move my text box around. Can I somehow get the same result in Publisher? Maybe there’s a modifier key trick with one of the text frame nodes? Thanks
  12. Newbie question: My InDesign CS5 has “corner effects” for a text box. Does Publisher have something like this? Thanks
  13. Publisher newbie question - I’m probably missing something blindingly obvious, but I can’t get a text ruler to show up. I’ve read the help page, and I have it turned on in both the view menu and the context menu, and the cursor is blinking in a text frame. Same behavior in several documents. I’m used to using the tab ruler in InDesign and was expecting the Publisher version to be similar. Any help? (Edit: A quit and restart fixed the problem)
