  1. When copying and pasting text from Adobe apps into Affinity Desiger or directly into CMS such as WordPress -OR- when opening Illustrator files in Affinity Designer and later copy/pasting from there, there will be inserted into the text several odd characters some of which are PSEPs or paragraph separators. THESE CHARACTERS ARE NOT VISIBLE ON MAC OR IN FIREFOX ON WINDOWS. They definitely display in Chrom on Windows. Finding them can be very tricky and a lot of work. For Mac users particularly and maybe Windows users as well, I have found a way to at least spot and remove them. Most text editors will not display these except for Microsoft's VSCode (not the IDE just the text editor). If you paste into VSCode, you can see them although it isn't that easy particularly when you have long text strings. This took me a lot of sweat to discover and I thought I should share. This happens with me copying from Illustrator, Affinity Designer when file was originally created in Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat or Reader and then pasting into browser app such as WordPress.
  2. I'm a Mac user. I love Affinity Designer, Photo, and Publisher. Is there any chance of a full-service PDF creator that would create fillable forms, edit PDFs, embed fonts, etc., etc. For me, this what keeps me tied to the subscription model at Adobe and all the products I would rather be using Affinity for. With this hook that Adobe has in my work flow, the value of the three products you offer and that I love is rendered moot. I have looked into other PDf creators by other companies. The closest replacement for Acrobat would be PDF Element but it is pretty buggy and their support is non-existent. It's not even fully clear what company is really behind the app. It smells of piracy to me. Other apps I have found don't edit or create forms. I am hoping for salvation from Serif. :)
  3. I'll attach the file as an example but it happens all the time. I just started anew with a file set for web with px as unit, transparent background checked. Added content, exported as EPS with settings to be vector, rastorize nothing, don't use JPG compression... see attached. The results are nice except for the white background. Joachim, where do you change the background in Affinity Designer? I see that in creating new documents but not in editing documents. hoffLogoTest2.eps
  4. Using Affinity Designer, I'm trying to export an EPS with all vector and a transparent background. When I open the EPS I exported in Affinity Designer, there is a white background where it was transparent in the Designer file. I can change the document to transparent background but can't save the file, only export again. How do I create an EPS file to share with Illustrator users with transparent background (and all vector)?
  5. I Photoshop, when I save for web, similar to exporting in Affinity Photo, it strips the exif data from the file. Is there a way to set up Affinity Photo to do this automatically on export so I don't have to do that manually?
  6. Ok, must have been the mentioned 'node handles' issue Thanks so much for your replies. I get it to work now and have experimented on a variety of examples. I surely was (repeatedly) selecting node handles. If there are nodes in close enough proximity, this can be hard to avoid, although in some examples, the correct behavior can happen very easily. I think, if possible, when selecting multiple nodes, the node handles should behave in the same way. But thanks to your help, I know how to do this.
  7. Thank you Gabe. I have great hopes for Affinity products. Someday, I'll close PS for good.
  8. Is there a way in Affinity Photo to keep the Cropping grid inside the image? Also, is there a way to get Affinity Photo to remember dimensions or aspect ratio when cropping multiple times so I don't have to constantly reset all the settings? Thanks for your help.
  9. This is also what I expect but won't work for me. I can nudge with arrows but that is way too abrupt and uncontrollable. I need to drag as you demonstrate in the video. If I do this, only one node moves. (again, I use white arrow, tripple click to activate nodes, drag/select a handful of adjacent nodes, but then when I drag, only one node moved eventhough the group is still selected (or at least highlighted).
  10. That's it. It's a little hard to understand based solely on the behavior. It might be good if the tool tip changed when you clicked back and forth or if the icon changed to be crossed out rather than highlighted when active. But it makes sense once you know how it works.
  11. I can't click on an object to select it. I have to find it in the layers panel and click on the layer. Is there a way to make Affinity Designer allow me to click on the object itself to select?
  12. Not really a bug but I can't get this to work. (I use Illustrator with no issues). I can't drag/resize and maintain the aspect ratio of text or objects. There was once an extra step of converting to curves but that command is always greyed out. I would like to simply select, click, resize and maintain the dimensions of the object. In Adobe products this is done anytime you use CMD when you drag. Why not in Affinity Designer?
  13. Seems to me like Affinity Designer is missing some pretty common features. Illustrator has this and if Inkscape does, wouldn't you think Affinity Designer would have this done? I spend a lot of time searching in Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo for feature that I'm familiar with but which turn out haven't been added yet. Somewhat disappointing and certainly deters my use of this software.
  14. Thanks. I get frustrated but I also get many rewards working with Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. I also appreciate your quick response.
  15. For the work I do, I can get around Photoshop very well. When I come to Affinity Photo, I have some very annoying difficulties but many times I'm able to work through these, learn a little, and find things about Affinity that I like very much. I haven't gotten there yet with cropping and I really feel I shouldn't be experiencing the persistent difficulties with such a simple process: CROPPING. Oftentimes I need to crop many images to the same dimensions for website placement and doing so in Affinity Photo seems to require a lot of repeated steps that with Photoshop would be much, much faster. Here's an example. I have a set dimension needed to crop a dozen or more image but in AP, I have to re-apply the dimensions every time. Photoshop remembers the last crop dimensions to re-apply automatically. In AP, I can create a preset which isn't what I want to do because I don't anticipate needing these same dimensions again for other jobs. So I could delete the preset but that's just unneeded work. If I use a preset and want to resize in relation to the photo but keep the same pixel dimensions, I CAN'T! If I want to reposition the crop area, using the shift key doesn't keep the motion vertical/horizontal/45ยบ as most apps do, nor does it snap to the edges of the pixel area so it becomes very easy to have a pixel or two of white space in the result and then I'm right back to square one. This scenario happens for me again and again and again. I find this very frustrating.
  16. Hmm...yes. It seems you can get all around this. While it may seem insignificant since there are so many other options, the missing option is the real time save in my opinion. Could this be a programming oversight? I don't know programming but it seems like it's almost there... could this feature be added?
  17. PAWA, thanks, yes sort of at least on Mac. You have to have an image open in another app to copy. You can't select in Finder (equivolent of My Computer), to copy/paste. I should have been more specific. Photoshop will accept clipboard contents copied from an un-opened image.
  18. Can Affinity Photo remember crop settings? If I have several images I need to crop to a certain dimension, I would like to have the settings stay put and not start each from scratch.
  19. In PhotoShop, when you copy an image into your clipboard then start a new document, the document dimensions match those of the document in your clipboard. This saves a lot of time. Could this be a feature in Affinity Photo?
  20. Is it possible to have a selected area and crop to selected pixels?
  21. Fellas, this helps. The convert-to-curves is not in the context menu and it is greyed out in the Layers menu. So I believe it's already converted, drawn with the pen tool. I had snapping disabled but enabled snapping to guides so that is one way to do it albeit a number of steps required. But it works. My node tool doesn't select when I drag a marquee over them (which is what I mean by drag-select). Ooops I see it does if I have the shape selected first. AI doesn't need that but I see an advantage to that when close by shapes would be within the marquee's area.
  22. How do I drag-select nodes of a shape? Node tool won't drag select. How do I align nodes vertically or horizontally? I come from Illustrator as I'm sure many do and I spend a very long trying to figure out simple tasks. I wish there were more in common with their workflow so I could learn Affinity Designer rather than going back to Illustrator.
  23. OK, now I see. When I had read "context toolbar", I was thinking contextual menu, so I was right clicking and not seeing anything there. Thanks for your help. Not the easiest way to achieve this based on my experience with other apps, but your explanation straightened me out. Thanks again.
  24. I am trying to do the same. I have a shape (a rectangle) that I selected and converted to curves. I use the node tool to add points, and now I want to delete one point to open the curve. When I select the point, there is no "action" or "break curve" in the context menu. In Illustrator, I simply select with white arrow, delete and never have to read up or ask questions.
