Pixel and Poly got a reaction from DDesignDude in Canva?!????!
My hope is that the products will continue to be available as stand alone products with no sub. And they will probably also get integrated into the subs that Canva offers. Hopefully the extra capital will enable even more development of tools for us. It would be great if they can see the value in keeping both the non sub products as well as any they might offer in the Canva subs. Time will tell. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Pixel and Poly reacted to Komatös in Canva?!????!
Look at it from a positive point of view. Functions that are missing in the Affinity programs could now be developed faster! Sure, there will be changes, many positive, some negative.
I sincerely hope that the Affinity programs will not come as a subscription model and that new functions will not be offered as "pay-to-win" options.

If they turn it into a subscription, then there's no reason for me to not just go back to Adobe.
This feels like a nail in the coffin.

I can say I am not happy with this.

Yep, as Ash said, nothing changes.... until it does.

Pixel and Poly got a reaction from NotMyFault in Easiest way to put 3 separate grayscale images into the RGB channels of a document
I'll take a look at that file and workflow. I feel like it might just be easier to use macros to insert the grayscale images into the single document over this method but I do appreciate it and will feel it out!

If you have a „deconstructed“ workflow, meaning you need to manage the 3 color channels individually, it could make sense to keep the channels totally separate during edits in 3 groups, all containing one channel, and use blend mode add to combine.
When exporting to a bitmap format, the channels will be combined automatically.
This is similar to trichromatic, but you can skip the initial stacking, and replace it by a macro to deconstruct the original 3 channel image and build the groups, set blend mode, and add channel mixer.
Or simply use the example file and just replace the pixel layers in the groups.
This workflow allows you to easily edit channels individually, including copy & paste of complete layers. The result is always combined automatically and can be exported to bitmap, without any need to combine them manually.
Further edits intended to work in classical way can be added on top of the 3 groups.
It will take some time to adjust your style to this non-destructive approach, but then produce results faster and more reliable. It does not make sense to use Affinity apps „against the system“, sticking to destructive workflows which worked great in other apps.

Pixel and Poly got a reaction from NotMyFault in Easiest way to put 3 separate grayscale images into the RGB channels of a document
Hi, Thanks for the quick reply! I was kind of hoping there was a 'paste into channel' option that I was missing somewhere. Your first method is the one that I did figure out and currently use but was hoping there would be a quicker method somehow. I might just make a macro that will do these steps for me in the end. I have three different types of grayscale texture maps that I need to place into a single RGB document to use in a game engine where I will be accessing each of the channels separately for their desired purpose. I think I will just make a macro for each color channel.

If you need this edit steps more frequent, a non-destructive workflow could be faster, as you can save some assets and adjustment layers as presets / templates.
Assuming you have only the src and dst layer in the document, covering the full canvas:
add a channels mixer adjustment nested to lower dst layer. The CM should zero out the target color channel. You can save this as preset. add the src layer on top. Set blend mode to add. add another CM adjustment to src layer, zero out the 2 other color channels. Now the blend results is visible. If you need this as one single layer: merge visible, or flatten document.
you can record macros to do all steps in once.

Pasting into channels has been requested repeatedly, unfortunately it is not available. Affinity always creates new layers when pasting, and ignores channels panel settings.
It requires at least 2 steps, but totally depends on how often do you want to do this, and what color formats the different documents have.
The basic workflow:
have the source image within your document (paste, place, …), and layer selected in layer stack choose channels panel, choose one of the color channels, create spare channel Select destination layer in layer stack choose channels panel, choose spare channel, and click „load to layer R/G/B“ -

Pixel and Poly reacted to walt.farrell in Menus are not flush left in Windows
It looks like they are opening to the left, but are constrained by the boundary of the application window.
If you have a drawing tablet installed (Wacom, etc.) then you might want to adjust the Windows "handedness" setting. The post below will provide more info:

Pixel and Poly got a reaction from WillMaxwell in Darken border in crop tool
I agree that this would be useful. Many times I like to keep the darkened area very dark. It would be great to have a % option next to the check box.

Wow, thank you so much! I actually looked through the prefs but must have missed that.

Such an option already exists! Go to the Tools options under Preferences and set ‘Move Tool Aspect Constrain’ to your preferred default behaviour.

Pixel and Poly got a reaction from AutoKitty in Is there a way to change the canvas color?
If you are in Photo I would just add a fill layer and place it at the bottom of the layers and pick any grey that will work for you. If you are in Designer I would put a rectangle at the bottom of the layers and fill it with a grey as well. You can lock either of these so you don't move or select them. Just turn off those layers before exporting or printing the final files.

Just a quick thanks for this! Was searching for reason why my tablet wasn't working correctly on the latest Affinity update and this fixed it for me.
cheers!

I had the same problem with a Deco 3, but solved it by turning off Windows Ink in Designer preferences. All worked well after that.

Pixel and Poly reacted to Helmar in Add option to allow for TOC with Page #s only
I'd be sooo for it. <tab>page #<tab>heading. That would make perfect sense if you have the numbers before the headings, and want to right-align those numbers, which you can't do without a tab. Also, it would be cool if you one could "pad" the numbers via the paragraph style, so that all numbers are shown with 3 digits, even the single or double page numbers.
Cheers,
Helmar

Thanks for looking into it for me. I guess my request for having ONLY the numbers appear would still apply as it would open up some options for us.

Pixel and Poly got a reaction from Helmar in Add option to allow for TOC with Page #s only
Ah, that makes sense! Thanks Walt. I was able to update those styles and it updates now without resetting the type formatting.
I have it displaying like this> <tab>page#<tab>heading
Do you happen to know if there is any way to have a tab inserted before the numbers automatically? Every time I update the TOC the tab that I manually insert before the page # goes away and I cannot see a way to have it set up to have the first tab in the settings. I see how we can insert tabs or other elements between #s and headings but not before.
Thanks for you assistance!

Hi @dominik , yes this was created in the latest full release. Not a beta. It's fine about posting/asking about that here. We all want a bug free application.

I'm not sure. Can you provide a sample file with a TOC setup as you have it now? I'll take a look and see if I can figure out something.
