Ron_S reacted to Mareck in Is 32bits linear workflow well implemented in AP?
I'm not sure but I think yes. In fact I haven't found so much about ICC in affinity in the officials doc and tutorials.

I tried with linear sRGB but it's not a close 1/1 export compare to sRGB view.

You're right, the best I can have is by having an EOTF curve on top of my stack to counter the OETF's one from the ICC.
So now I can work with 32 bit linear exr, but it looks a bit like a hack^^.

So it answer my question, doesn't look like the 32 bit linear workflow is so well implemented here.

    Hi Lee Sheldon,
    Welcome to the forums!

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand your issue. The UI can be toggled using the 'TAB' key, or from View > Toggle UI.
What do you mean in regards to opening an image? Using File > Open should show a Finder window, so that you can select a file, however whilst the Finder window is in focus, you cannot toggle the UI.

The alternative methods are required because the Red Eye Removal tool only works on red eyes. I use a less elaborate version of the method mentioned by Máté here:

I start by selecting the dog's eyes using the Selection Brush tool in Add mode with Snap to edges disabled. Usually, that is easy to do by adjusting the brush size & clicking without dragging to get two perfect circles. Then I click on the Refine button & set the output to "New Layer" to create an 'eyes only' layer above the photo layer. Applying a Black & White Adjustment to that layer turns the eyes black while preserving the highlights in white.

That usually looks realistic enough for me that further tweaks are not necessary:

you can try the clarity filter or/and the unsharp mask filter.
instead of applying the filters on the whole image data, you could first apply the frequency separation filter, balancing the radius so that the high frequency layer holds most of the detail information but non or almost none colour information. this avoids to apply the sharpening filters also to the colour information and possibly raise up some chrominance noise.
from this point on, you select the haigh frequency layer and apply the sharpening filters only to this layer. you can, for example:

    1) simply duplicate the high frequency layer (possibly setting the opacity of the duplicate to less than 100%, if the sharpening looks harsh or shows unnatural halos)
    2) apply the unsharp mask filter (live or destructive) to the high frequency layer
    3) apply the clarity filter (live or destructive) to the high frequency layer

    hope this helps

Ron_S reacted to Peter Werner in Levels adjustments - are there any output settins? (Photo)
Unfortunately, this feature is currently missing – I'd also like to see it, and also see the sliders vertically compressed so they are right under the histogram like in Photoshop instead of the two vertical lines that can be mistaken for histogram peaks.

However, you can use a Curves adjustment layer to achieve the same effect. Input levels can be achieved by moving the right (white) and left (black) point horizontally while leaving them at the same vertical position. I think Photo doesn't have a clipping preview in Curves though, so you lose that.

Output levels can be achieved by moving the black and white points vertically while leaving them at the same horizontal position. Lack of a clipping preview is usually not relevant here, unless you work on HDR floating point documents. Combinations of input and output levels can be achieved by moving the points both horizontally and vertically.

You can approximate the Gamma slider by adding a point in the middle of your curve and moving that vertically. It's mathematically not the exact same thing as gamma (so don't use it if you need to reverse or match an exact numeric gamma curve/value precisely), but it's close enough to achieve the same effects and actually offers more control than a gamma slider.

Note that the Alpha option in Curves seems to be somewhat broken currently.

EDIT: You can ignore this as I see you have posted additional questions and have moved much further on.

In concert with the responders above, I think you have asked your question a bit vaguely on a topic that is universe-large. For example, what effect in your screenshot are you referring to? The gray band at the top, the beauty retouching part, the cropping, or what? So, let's assume you mean the beauty touch-up: skin color and blemishes, highlights, shadows, etc.

In the back of our minds, should we assume you really want to act on 500 photos or will you cull it down to 45 photos? Then how extensively do you want to retouch?

I suggest you look for a workflow method recommended by someone who does touch-ups. Take that workflow method and apply it to each of your photos to the extent you desire on each photo as no two will be the same. Here is a sample of a touch-up workflow (just Google search for 1,000,000 others):

Many people have settled on many workflows: if you don't like this one, look at others. Search this forum for a number of them for Affinity Photo.

If you need an color profile aware application to test images; you can use the portable Fullscreen Photo Viewer; just unzip and run it. The color management toggle is the F12 key. If the yellow tint is there too = color profile problems. :)

    Hi createsean,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Although not a solution this may help for now: If you press ⌘ (cmd) (CTRL if you are using Windows) and click an object on canvas it should "force" select it no matter its position on the Layers hierarchy.

    @ZombieRofl,
Go to Affinity Preferences, User Interface section and check Show Selection in Layers Panel to have the object highlighted/visible all the time in the Layers panel when you select it on canvas.

    Hi,

Is there a way to view the posts that I liked on the forum? I tend to like the posts that contain some useful answers and it'd be nice to be able to find those easily :)

    Thanks

Great looking! With this starter, I can see a lot of options for variation of result. For example, the choice of bkgd image will matter, the width/number of your (primary & secondary) rectangles will matter, and the choice of filters applied to (I'm guessing) the rectangles will affect the outcome. Possibly, the rectangles can be slanted off perpendicular also.
