Rick G got a reaction from Alfred in Has a worse piece of software ever been made?
It would be HELPFUL if you posted an issue and the steps to reproduce it. That way, someone can begin to help you

Rick G reacted to GarryP in rendering/colouring problem
Without being able to see how these pages have been constructed it will be difficult to diagnose what’s wrong.
If you can’t supply the document itself, can you give us a full-screen screen-shot showing your Layers Panel with the ‘faded’ layer selected and the layers around that layer expanded as much as possible?
In this case, we need to see the ‘state’ of the layer in question and what’s above it so we can see if anything could be ‘occluding’ it a little in some way.
My guess is that the text frame on the left has been given an Opacity of less than 100% (very easy to do by accident) but there’s no way for me to know from what I can see.

Rick G got a reaction from DNA0101 in HOW CAN I EXPORT EPUB WITH AFFINITY PUBLISHER
If you install the free e-calibre it will change a PDF into Epub, MOBI or about anything else faster than it took me to type this
And it has a rudimentary editor to make small corrections if need be

Rick G reacted to walt.farrell in When footnotes
Serif generally does not comment on the timing of future functionality. When it is ready it appears in a beta release. Before then they seldom provide any hints, as they have found that doing so causes additional problems with customer satisfaction when something goes wrong and affects their predicted schedule.

Rick G reacted to Old Bruce in Format Novel - Anthology
Make your styles in Publisher. Place one of the five word docs in a Publisher doc and do a find and replace on the imported styles then delete the now unused word styles, import the next word document and repeat the find and replace. Save copies frequently. Reapply the text styles frequently.
My self, I would be tempted to nuke everything and work with plain text copies of the five word documents.

Rick G got a reaction from drik in Creating a coloring page
I am adding this so someone can find it . I am no expert at this
Load a Photo
From the adjustments tab
Turn it black and white Invert it Go to the layers tab and change the blend mode from normal to "lighten"
If you still have dark areas, select them and adjust them as needed in a new layer
Some add a touch of blur to the lines to soften them. I don't particularly car for that but by all means try it
UPDATE: If you really want sketches and / or coloring pages the best answer comes from an Affinity Revolution tutorial

I like them BOTH. Wouldn't it be great if BOTH were available? [hint][hint]😀

Click on the shapes tool. There are triangles, hearts etc. On windows, now hold down shift while you click and look at the bottom item ... vaila the cat!

@Rick G You have to be really tricky. I found the new cat tool in the 1.9 Betas, and promptly went to my desktop v. 1.8.4 and made an asset out of the old cat tool — one of my favorites. I have him saved forever.🤗

Rick G got a reaction from PaulEC in Text editors
Old school isn't nessisarily bad.I use metapad as a notepad replacement which has a lot of features I need in the course of a day and it hasn't been updated in years
Might I suggest wordpad for a light text editor? That might do it. I use Libre office personally but in either you can set up templates to sut your needs
Merry Christmas!

Rick G got a reaction from Aleksandar Kovač in 1.7.0.231 Cropping still snaps even when snapping is turned off
When you try to crop an image it is difficult to set the corners to a precise location. The movements are snapped even with snapping turned off. Even with Whole Pixel and force alignment turned off, it still snaps
Yes you can hold down ALT to get a precise location but this is still apparently broken
Thanks

Rick G got a reaction from nebuso in Epub export facilities
If the developers chime in and say it will be out in the next beta, disregard this
But until then try e-calibre
https://calibre-ebook.com Export a PDF then convert it to whatever you would like. There is even a bare bones editor if you need to tweak something

Rick G got a reaction from mykee in Random square(s) at export
I can't even do the export on either file. It just sits at "exporting" Something isn't right here
