Greed is the problem. Young innovative greators start falling behind the technology and become conservative money grabbers now only interested in conserving executive compensation. It is a pattern that is repeated consistently. It is often accompanied by  arrogance in the form of "we know better than you" and even assuming that we the great unwashed cannot have such lofty thoughts as they. Multiply that by 10x if nepotism is involved

Jeff Bezos of Amazon was looking for ways to avoid the  eventual corporate decay. I wonder if he can find a way to avoid it? It will most probably require the entire senior staff stepping aside and letting the next generation run with it

Am I a bad person if I actually prefer the non retouched version?

I have been wanting to do my own version of an Art Nouveau piece for awhile and I just happen to come across an old poster that was originally created by Henri Privat-Livemont and I thought it would be a good one to recreate with vectors using Designer. I added quite a bit more shading and some other minor things here and there. I normally don't use any effects in my work as I prefer to keep things purely vector but with this one I used two effects to help soften the colours on the face. The effects can easily be removed and it doesn't take away from the picture much but in the end I decided that it looked better with the effects. I've also included a view of the outlines that were used.

    Hi,

I have this file where I have a number of layers, if I put them in specific order, I get a lot of black areas on my image in preview and grays when on export.
I can upload the file, please send me the dropbox link.

You should read that article. That is a LEGEND.. Germans weren't in the US in force until the late 1800s the Hessian troops notwithstanding. The article alludes to a vote that never happened in 1784 when English speakers were well entrenched in the former colonies. The use of English as the de facto national language was never in doubt

Rick G reacted to maxen in clone brush tool shows crosshairs at first selection position
Is ist intended that the clone brush tool keeps showing the crosshairs at the position first selected as source as long as you don't actually paint? The moment the clone brush tool starts to copy (meaning the brush ist actually painting) the crosshairs are shown at the "relative" position.
In my opinion it's a bit distractive. I'd rathe want to know where from the clone brusch will take the pixels to paint, not where I first set the selection.

This is the first time I use Affinity Designer to draw a product, hope you will like it.
The experience is well, somehow I think I need Arrey when I draw repeating units. And I think I need a Stroke Gradient tool or panel to show the control ponits when I change the color of strokes precisely, it's not good when I try to change stroke's gradient color points, especially in canical type.

I did this one to practice on skin tones, one of the hardest parts of colorizing, painting or retouching. Think most artists will agree on that. I tried various techniques to get the skin tones, hope to fine tune the process in a couple of photo's more before I move on to the famous persons ;)

    Hi all

My first post and also my first edit using Affinity.
I'm still trying to adjust and find my way round but I have to say I will be sticking with Affinity as Its great to use but I also like some of the features, especially the live view with the blending modes.

Its an image of my Pug, Obi.  He's a proper little chunk and naughty to say the least.

It was a three light setup.  One gridded and the other two with silver reflective brollies.

Hey chucksalvo, welcome to the Affinity Forums.

On the context toolbar at the top, make sure the Mode is set to New or Add. The different selection tools can have separate Modes enabled so you might be set to Subtract. Make sure you try it on a new document too or, if you want to do it on an existing document, try going to Select > Deselect to make sure you don't already have an active selection.

    Hello,

I have a few photo from Budapest and other places, and I think, play with a Tone Mapping Persona and text features, plus added a gradient for this old style "post card" in Affinity Photo.
