I'm fine with the terms Photo and Designer. Outside the forums we could use the term photoshopkiller but that's a lot of typing.

I flip back and forth between Affinity and Davinci for single images. They do have some nice tools. For some reason I also get a better grasp on color management by watching Resolve tutorials and bring that knowledge back into Affinity. Still a beginner but learning.

    Learning is complex https://youtu.be/6_C5f4MVkKg?t=19

What you might want to do is start a google group for AP. Run it more like a small photo club instead of a forum. Have assigned images that you all work on together, then have each person (or the best edit) explain how they did it???

Forums are always a tougher way to learn. It's hard to type anything these days without insulting someones intelligence unintentionally. I did ask one of the youtube photo editors to take a look at Affinity Photo (he's my go to guy for lightroom learning). My fingers are crossed hoping he will begin making videos on Affinity products.

    Best of luck

I just pointed to that tutorial as a means to mask off the trees from the sky. You would do the opposite of what he did. If you invert the mask you are working the trees or the sky.

My other favorite tool (makes me sound like a broken record) is to use the NIK plugins in Affinity Photo. With those tools you can most likely click on a tree trunk with a control point and just impact the trees (using a few copied control points to cover the whole area of trees your are interested in.  (NIK is totally free now and Affinity supports it though I think a couple of the plugins still have bugs).

This isn't a nik tree tutorial but you should get the idea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B97peyu-PXw

I found this tutorial helpful when dealing with trees. If you can make a mask of the trees you can use that mask to only affect the trees.

I like them. They have the HDR look but not in the extreme like so many others I've seen.

You probably can use AP for noise reduction but you can do that in Photoshop, Lightroom, and others. Even so, a lot of people will still purchase Topaz Denoise because it just works well. NIK Dfine might not be the latest and greatest but it's completely free now (I paid over $150 for the NIK suite a couple years ago and still use Dfine).

I'm not sure but I think you can do something similar to this in AP
It's a really nice method for getting the color from negative scans.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy7c2ikUhcM

I use this method and this particular tool to scan mine using a DSLR

This is part of a discontinued kit that works great for holding 35mm film flat. I tried plenty of diy holders from youtube but I settled on this tool for the low cost and ease of use.

rmar got a reaction from rafi266 in absolutely complete ignoramus
Everyone learns differently. Being an inexperienced ignoramus myself I found it a struggle to wrap my head around editing and workflow. I never used anything like AP or photoshop before. I do have lightroom 4.

An odd thing that helped me to understand actual workflow came from the video editing industry. It may not be useful to your education but it helped me grasp the photo editing workflow:

    1. Davinci Resolve https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolveIf you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will see a free version for download.

    2. This guys free Resolve tutorials http://filmsimplified.com/courses He has a lot of paid tutorials for film makers but his free classes were enough for me to grasp the idea of an editing workflow. The tools are obviously wrong for AffinityPhoto but the concept of workflow is what they helped me understand. (besides, most modern cameras come with video capability so you might need it one day).

    3. Same guy, (Alex Jordon). This is his youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/LearnColorGrading/featured.. Most of the channel is advertising for his classes but he has a lot of short tutorials that I found very helpful.

Apologies if this is way off topic but being a noob and knowing this helped me (in an odd way) to understand the editing and workflow process, I will throw it out there for others who might be struggling.

Edit: Forgot to mention. When he talks about nodes just replace that word with layers, it will make sense then :)

Thanks MBd, I am watching them now.

edit: Just finished watching the tutorials, very helpful. The only difference I see in the tutorials vs the above video is this. The AP tutorials all show a panorama stitched horizontally. The above video stitches them both horizontally and vertically. I'll play around with this later and see if AP has the smarts to stitch in both directions. Thanks again.
