  1. Here's the other article on using silver efex for color fwiw. http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/using-silver-efex-pro-for-colour-prints/
  2. You can try this trick with Silver Efex plugin https://blogarithms.com/2013/02/06/sfxpro-for-color/
  3. The only thing that comes to mind it the graduated fog filter in NIK color efex. I haven't tried this in AP but I'm sure there is a graduated filter effect you could use. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDsl6fPpCX8
  4. This is an example of the stacking trick you can use if you don't want to spend $$$ on a good ND filter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcZkCnPs45s&feature=youtu.be&t=219
  5. The way I read Dan's comment was this: It is easier to get the effect of HSL adjustment using Lab instead.
  6. You can always watch this video from a former tech geek now photographer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbsyglPqK6o
  7. I have a feeling you are going to make a lot of other amateurs very happy :) I have an older copy of Lightroom and the NIK plugins. I stayed away from Photoshop because I could not justify the high cost for a hobby. Then along comes Affinity for Windows. Going by what my local camera club is like, I think you might want to start a sub group just for Affinity Photo. Most of the folks that come in to speak about Photoshop are so advanced as to be useless to a beginner. Best of luck.
  8. I played around with your image in the NIK Viveza plugin. I was able to use control points to select large dust specs and manipulate them to black. With a little more effort I think I could get rid of most of them. Viveza (I think) still has some issues running inside Affinity Photo but you might want to try it as well.
  9. There is an Affinity Photo tutorial for this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9hcrkHh7ak
  10. There is an unofficial performance thread here in the forums that you might want to look at first. Windows machines in general seem to be slower than Mac's. It might be worth it to wait a bit longer and Let the folks at Affinity continue to tweak their windows versions further. Also, AMD just came out with a new processor and nobody really knows yet if it is a good competitor for the Intel chips. It looks promising but again, I would wait. Finally, I am running a Skylake I7 with an older graphics card and modern memory chips. I got a reasonable score on the above mentioned performance test.
  11. I'm fine with the terms Photo and Designer. Outside the forums we could use the term photoshopkiller but that's a lot of typing.
  12. NX-D is a raw processor, I use it for my .nef files. Never tried to open jpg's or tiff's with it
  13. I have designer but I'm still a rookie so I can't comment on how useful these are. I did download your zip file and I can see 21 other people have as well. Not sure why you didn't get any thank you's yet Here's my unqualified one. Thanks for sharing this :) I will be a while till I can appreciate it.
  14. Already had your color management tutorial bookmarked. Thanks again.
  15. I flip back and forth between Affinity and Davinci for single images. They do have some nice tools. For some reason I also get a better grasp on color management by watching Resolve tutorials and bring that knowledge back into Affinity. Still a beginner but learning.
  16. This has nothing to to with Affinity software but I'm in the same boat when it comes to making prints. I found series of articles and they really help explain the how's and why's of printing. Hope it helps. It's far above what the average person (me) is aware of when all you do is send your prints out and hope for the best but I'm convinced now that understanding all of this is the next level you need to get to in order to be happy with prints. Part1 https://www.breathingcolor.com/blog/guide-to-digital-printing-part-1/ Part2 https://www.breathingcolor.com/blog/guide-to-digital-printing-part-2/ Part3 ??? they say a part 3 is coming one day :) This is her website. She has a bunch of podcasts there as well http://renmarphoto.com/publications-and-podcasts/ Probably more than you were looking for.
  17. Is a photoshop add-on the same as a plugin? I'd like to try this https://creative.adobe.com/addons/products/5802#.VM4_0C46gsM I can do it manually with help from this website but the actual add-on would be nice in AP https://dgrin.com/discussion/18308/photoshop-lab-color-ch-1
  18. Learning is complex https://youtu.be/6_C5f4MVkKg?t=19 What you might want to do is start a google group for AP. Run it more like a small photo club instead of a forum. Have assigned images that you all work on together, then have each person (or the best edit) explain how they did it??? Forums are always a tougher way to learn. It's hard to type anything these days without insulting someones intelligence unintentionally. I did ask one of the youtube photo editors to take a look at Affinity Photo (he's my go to guy for lightroom learning). My fingers are crossed hoping he will begin making videos on Affinity products. Best of luck
  19. Good article on windows 10 memory leak problem (Do Not mess with the registry fix he mentions unless you really know what you're doing) https://www.techworm.net/2017/01/how-to-fix-high-cpu-usage-ram-leakage-windows-10-pc.html I don't know if Microsoft has issued a patch for this yet but it's interesting that you see this behavior with Affinity. Windows has a better resource monitor already built in. You just have to turn it on. See this article http://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-use-windows-10s-resource-monitor-to-track-memory-usage/ I have Advanced System Care installed as well but I rely on the windows resource manager instead.
  20. I just pointed to that tutorial as a means to mask off the trees from the sky. You would do the opposite of what he did. If you invert the mask you are working the trees or the sky. My other favorite tool (makes me sound like a broken record) is to use the NIK plugins in Affinity Photo. With those tools you can most likely click on a tree trunk with a control point and just impact the trees (using a few copied control points to cover the whole area of trees your are interested in. (NIK is totally free now and Affinity supports it though I think a couple of the plugins still have bugs). This isn't a nik tree tutorial but you should get the idea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B97peyu-PXw This one has trees but not against a sky background https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdcBY7gO6hc&feature=youtu.be&t=210
