affwin got a reaction from Rick G in not installed beta 109 and 112 (win7)
Hi Rick, unfortunately, no success.
Can it possibly prevent a registry entry. The installation of the final version is possible, so it should be due to the installer, which is different than the final version.
Does anyone have any idea what I can taste.
Greetings Dieter

affwin reacted to Gnobelix in sharpen with bilateral blur
I would like to introduce here a method of sharpening.
This method is not new, many will know it from Photoshop.
For those who do this method not know, i reconstructed it in AP.
Step 1. open the picture and editing e.g. HSL balance, white balance etc.
Step 2. select the top layer.
Step 3. duplicate the layer with keyboard shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + E twice.
Step 4. change blend mode to Linear Light
Step 5. invert the Layer with keyboard shortcut CTRL + I
Step 6. opacity to 50% (important that the 50% are met exactly)
Step 7. filters-blur - bilateral blur: adjust radius to 5 pix
and adjust tolerans between 45% and 55% (i think the the optimal value is 50%)
Step 8. layer - merge down with keyboard shortcut CTRL + E
Step 9. adjust the new layer blend mode from normal to overlay (with the opacity playing)
Step 10. create a mask layer, (to select areas that are not needed)
All steps are in a macro recording, see below
Best Regards
Gnobelix

affwin reacted to John Rostron in Resize an image to a fixed maximum size
Do it yourself:
If you want to write your own version of this macro for your favourite maximum size, these are the steps:
Layer > Unlock
Layer > Rasterize and Trim
Filter > Distort > Equations Enter the following in the x and y fields, substituting your own maximum size, then Apply
(x/MAXSIZE)*max(h,w)
(y/MAXSIZE)*max(h,w)
Document > Clip Canvas
Layer > Rasterize
Select > Alpha Range > Select Partially Transparent
Edit > Fill> Inpainting
Select > Deselect
I thank @carl123 for the last four steps.
EDIT: These macros have been edited to add the first two steps. Unlocking is necessary, but I had not previously included it in the Macro. The Rasterize step is necessary if the image has been cropped previously.
EDIT 2: I have amended step 2 to use Rasterize and Trim (rather than just Rasterize). This is new in 1.7.

affwin reacted to John Rostron in Resize an image to a fixed maximum size
In another thread in Questions, I have been discussing with others how to write a macro that will resize an image so that the longest side is a fixed value. For example, if I resize a 4000x3000 image to maximum of 800, it will give a 800x600 image. For a portrait image, the image will become 600X800.
After many iterations, I came up with a set of macros included here in a macro library: Resize to fixed max size.afmacros, which is attached here.
This includes five macros:
Resize to 640 max
Resize to 800 max
Resize to 1280 max
Resize to 1600 max
Resize to variable max side
The first four will resize any image to the designated maximum size. The last one includes a parameter which allows you to partly-specify the target size. The default target size is 2000px, but for any other value (up to a maximum of 4000, use the pop-up to adjust. The value of the parameter is the desired maximum size divided by 4000. A convenient way of specifying the final maximum edge size is to enter a fraction. If your target is (say) 800px then, in the parameter box (not the slider), enter 800/4000. If your target is 3200, enter 3200/4000.
I have given technical details of the macro in subsequent messages in this thread.
EDIT:
This is a revised version of the macros (as of 2nd November 2018). For details of the changes, see the item below which gives the macro details). The changes were in response to a user who found that if he cropped the image first, the macro did not work.

affwin reacted to James Ritson in LEGACY: Official Affinity Photo (Desktop) Video Tutorials
Thanks for all the feedback so far, in response to the architecture workflow video posted above I've produced a portrait retouching workflow video which you can see here:
Portrait Retouching Workflow - YouTube / Vimeo It's 25 minutes long and covers a variety of techniques including:
Initial RAW development Working in a wider colour space Frequency Separation Retouching tools including Blemish Removal, Patch Tool, Healing Brush, Clone Brush and Inpainting Brush Selection Refinement Quick Mask mode Mask layers and tweaking matte spill with Curves/Levels Brush work to enhance tones Masking on adjustments/live filters Final sharpening Export and conversion to sRGB colour space Hope you find it useful! I would hazard a guess that these more workflow-focused videos are quite useful, so I hope to produce more of them in the not-too-distant future. Thanks again.

affwin reacted to Tschens in Shadows & Highlights in Raw
Agreed. The dev team should now concentrate on the improvement of the RAW module before they start to develop Affinity Publisher or other things. Better one or two "finished" products than 4 half-finished. The time to gain really lots of customers due to current "Adobe subcription issues" is EXACTLY NOW. Its too late in 3 months.

affwin reacted to Hofnaar in Affinity Photo Customer Beta - 1.6.1.92
Thanks! Im happy to hear that.
btw: the shadows & highlights under filters works great in comparison to the one under adjustments - its horrible like in the development persona
may this helps, but Im sure, you already know this.

affwin reacted to Hofnaar in Affinity Photo Customer Beta - 1.6.1.92
Im near always happy with AP and AD. The Workflow is great, the programms are stable for hours of work per day and I made many artworks and prints for my clients this year with it.
I think you all affinity guys make and made a great job with it.
But, sorry to bother again, is the RAW Development Persona still on your to do list? Or is it the hated little child in AP? There are no changes within the last Betas for editing or loading RAW Files and other important functions like preset management, highlight and shadow recovery and many more. Im looking forward to finally see some steps there in the next Betas.

affwin reacted to Mark Ingram in Affinity Photo Customer Beta - 1.6.1.92
We'll soon be testing out a new Shadows and Highlights algorithm in Develop (1.6.2). We are still looking at Develop, it's just that's one of the most complicated areas of the program, so changes are slower to implement.

Purpose: Stability

This is a beta of a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it is considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that you may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.
We hope you enjoy the latest build, and as always, if you've got any problems, please don't hesitate to post here and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Thanks once again for your continued feedback.
