But I'm not measuring the colour values with the colour picker - I'm just observing the rgb values shown when I use the colour picker to select the original colour, which accords with the rgb values shown in the colour panel, and it is the colour panel that I have been using as set out in my earlier post to see what's happening. At least on my (Windows) machine it is showing different cmyk values between objects, one where the values have been inputted directly and the other assigned via the colour picker. So direct input = 100,82,0,32 and fillng object via colour picker/picked colour swatch =100,93,18,9. I'm wondering if this is how the OP has assigned colours as it perhaps could explain the observed the differences stated. This would imply don't use the colour picker at all but aways input values directly into the colour panel if you wish to retain colour

Been experimenting. In Designer create two objects say a square and a triangle. In the square type in the CMYK values - 100,82,0,32. Do the same for the triangle with yellow. Note the RGB values. I find saving the file and reopening in Designer or Photo gives the same colour values, as expected, looking at the values in the Colour Chooser panel. Now create two more objects, say a circle and a diamond. Now use the colour picker located next to the colour wells and select the blue in the square - the rgb values highlighted by the picker accord with what we have set via cmyk values. Now highlight the circle and select the picked colour swatch (the small circle next to the colour picker). The circle turns blue. Do the same for the diamond but for the yelllow. Now compare blues and yellows in the Colour Chooser pannel. The blue and yellow cmyk values in the circle and diamond have different values than in the original square and triangle. Interestingly, if you take the colour picker and hover over the circle or the diamond, the RGB vaues show as one would expect but the cmyk values show different. So, have the colours actually changed or are the displayed cmyk values simply wrong. The above is with the current beta but same issue in retail version, although when I input the cmyk blue values for example, it lists different rgb values than the beta! Perhaps this is what the OP is seeing, and depends on how the various objects have been assigned a colour - through the colour picker? Seems there is a pronblem here, although it might have been reported previously.

Here's a gif - not worked with gif and uploads before so might not work. If I have not done anything silly, then the question is why it's working here if it's not working elsewhere?

Just to clarify, on Windows 2+cos(20)*2 in the x transform box gives a result of 3.88 as expected. Same for retail and beta.

Hi GarryP, Been playing around with this. Try x+cos(30)*2 where x is a specific number in the x (or y) transform panel, say 5. Like you, could not get +=cos(30)*2 to work - probably a bug.I agree that there is a need for better documentation with examples.

As far as keeping unused assets, one could on fininishing the design pull them into the bounding page, group them, clip, and then move the group to outside the page - they still have their layers and it's all saved so can be used again. No doubt tedious if you have dozens of assets to play with, but possibly a limited 'solution' for some. | entirely agree that's it's not the same thing as Designer or Publisher but the OP specifically asked about Photo;

But cannot the enlarged canvas be used to place assets and play around with designs? Then, when satisfied, remove unused assets and clip to the page bounding box to recover the size of the page. It's a (poor?) workaround for want of anything else. Or is there a major downside I'm not seeing?

In Photo, doesn't Document/Clip Canvas and Document/Unclip Canvas work? So, set up your page or photo, (outline a blank page with a square box set to no fill and a narrow stroke width set to a colour you can see - Clip will work to this bounding box). Now put an object, say a circle outside the page, left and right (or above and below) to a distance depending on how much space you want (you may want to zoom out). Now Document/Unclip Canvas. You can place whatever elements you now want on this expanded canvas and move things around with the Move tool. When you have finished, make sure there are no elements on the canvas outside the page (which has been outlined by the box above) and then Document/Clip to Canvas. You can then hide or delete the bounding box. Does this work or am |I misunderstanding something?

As regards question 2, with the mask selected (click on the mask icon in the layer panel) go to Layer/Invert and your mask will show as transparent, if as Dan C says you have Document/Transparent Background selected. You can then use the brush took to amend the mask. Layer/Invert to return. Does this help?

(Windows) I find that you don't have to drag the layer. Just fill path (one click on icon next to colour picker on Colour Panel), then Ctrl click on path (curve) layer icon to get selection while retaining the path. Any quicker than right click on path layer duplicate and then selection button? The selection can then be saved to a spare channel for futher use if required, as h_d suggests.

Publisher beta 1.8.0.499 now has merge documents so you should be able to save individual chapters as publisher files and then merge at the end. Needs testing, of course.

GarryP and R C-R have hopefully solved the issue for you with their helpful suggestions. But just picking up a couple of things you have said: "Now I have a mostly-white spread, with empty purple boxes where the text boxes used to be, and a couple of default-blue empty boxes where two items I left out were; the rectangles and lines forming the calendar framework are now invisible. Collapsing and expanding the metalayer/folder in the Layers panel makes no difference to the display; switching to Preview mode gives me a blank spread, without even the left-out boxes' text showing." And "when I click the triangle to expand it and show the contents, everything (including parent) is selected, and clicking/command-clicking/shift-clicking all fail to change that." Without seeing a screenshot of what you have done, I suspect that in moving layers into your new container layer you have masked content, which is why when you highlight the container layer and press the arrow to expand the folder everything is highlighted. Ensure you click on a layer icon to move the layer. In moving layers into the container layer you need to ensure that you drag the layer over the name of the layer not the thumbnail - a horizontal blue line underscoring the layer name should appear to show you have it rignt, and then drop. So you want "everything that went into the folder visible but not reacting to the move too or whatever else I might do as I add text frames, graphics, etc. How can I get to that point?" And "I'm concerned primarily with simply placing text frames over text frames (and very simple graphic elements, such as straight black lines)." Solution - just lock the layers you want to protect by highlighting the container layer and then pressing the padlock icon located in the header to the layers panel. The contents of the locked container layer remains visible on the page but are not adjustable unless you highlight a particular layer with the container layer. You can now add new elements eg text frames and Groups without accidently affecting or moving existing content. As an alternative to using container layers, I would group whatever layers you want as a Group (highlight layers, right click and Group). Now highlight the Group layer and lock. Is that what you are looking for? I hope I have not confused things. The help system (F1) contains information about layers and groups.

I'm a little confused now. Just fired up Publisher retail to find there is a new version 1.7.2.471 ie beyond this beta number. The above problem seems to have been solved in the new version. I assume this .458 beta is now defunct.

As regards (3), I find that if a click the row header arrow and select 'Insert Row', it does indeed add the new row above. However, if I ignore the header arrow and just right click on the row header the same menu pops up but this time if you select 'Insert Row' it inserts below the currently selected row! Of course, the operation should be clearly labelled as to whether inserting above or below.

Or you could create a text frame in Publisher, paste into that, copy that text, highlight the table or the required cells (you need to do this), and then paste. Still a hassle but perhaps less so. Pasting directly into Publiser table does not seem to pick up tab as a delimiter - must be a bug.

Does this work - copy Publisher table contents, paste into Word (Keep Source Formatting) and then select all and copy into Excel?

You may be looking for something different, but have you tried from the menu 'View\Zoom\Zoom to Width' and then use the page control at bottom left (or Ctrl PgUp and PgDn - you can assign different if you wish) to page through each spread - no zig-zagging. You can scroll to zoom in and out.

Sorry for being a bit dumb, but how can you tell it's a closed curve? Is there a test? When I look at the svg file, there is a path defined (not a shape). The start and end points seem different if you've converted to curves and delete the straight segments. Thanks

Does using the pie shape have the same problems - ie not really the tool to create open\partial circles by deleting the two straight segments without potentially causing problems down the line? In the orginal post, for the red circle 'convert to pie' in context menu, adjust start and end angles, convert to curves break the straight segments using node tool and delete.

Hi Tpdesigns, When you say, "For some reason, when you start a new document and you have a current document and you never saved... it's a goner", what you are perhaps missing is that when you have more than one document open they are on different tabs just above the ruler referenced as <untitled> until you save with a file name. Try clicking on the tabs when you create a new document when working on an existing document - you should be able switch between the two documents. It means you can load up multiple files and easily switch between them. When you close the programme, at least on Windows, it asks whether you want to save files that you have been created or amended but not yet saved so you shouldn't be losing anything. Hope that helps but sorry if I've misunderstood what the problem is.

Publisher released version 1.7.1.404 and 1.7.2.422 Beta (1) Create a new document (2) create text layer and insert text (3) Keep 'Frame Text' tool live and 'Place' image (4) the image is automatically placed as a child of the text layer ie the normal 'Place' symbol does not become active (5) now try and move the image child layer or the image itself in the main view - I find it's not possible, although you can delete it or step back with undo The issue seems to be that if the text layer is selected AND you have the 'Frame Text' tool active' then when you go to the 'Place' command all types of documents are selectable. If you deselect the layer (click anywhere in the main window) or change to the 'Move' tool, keeping the text layer active, then the options in the 'Place command are limited to .txt (which seems to include docx and rtf files), which makes sense. However, in a workflow easy to create a text frame and then move straight to the 'Place' command, forgetting to deselect the text layer and keeping 'Frame Text' tool active. Regardless, you should of course be able to move the child layer to anywhere in the stack layer. Windows 10
