artofmtl reacted to henryanthony in Resize Document Before Editing or After is Ok
Enlarging raster images via software will always result in loss of image quality. Sometimes it will not be noticed if you are only enlarging by a small amount. That being said, you will want to do the enlarging of the picture. Then make any edits, additions, etc. If you do the edits first, then you will also lose quality of the edits as well as the initial image you started with If you enlarge at the end.
I don't understand what you mean by, "I want to resize my picture by making the document a little bigger".
A lot depends on what your final product is and how much enlarging is done. I am speaking from a background of high-quality, four-to-6-color offset lithography where enlarging photos is always frowned upon. When ever I was forced to do this, I would always get a knot in my stomach. To meet deadlines you sometimes have to do what you have to do.

artofmtl reacted to NotMyFault in Resize Document Before Editing or After is Ok
It depends on many factors, mainly the
use case for the resulting image (large photo print, web, …) the quality of source image the type of edits you make (e.g. adding layers, what layer types). if you are ok with the results from your current workflow, go for it.
Otherwise, just give us an example ane exppain what you want to achieve or improve

I always resize, if needed, as one of the very last steps prior to final export. The only "later' step would be a slight sharped if resizing killed the sharpness.

Every time I was opening a Raw file Affinity Photo would crash. I uncheck Hardware Acceleration and now everything is fine. I guess my video card (GForce GTX 1060) is not compatible..

    Hi @artofmtl,
Apologies for the delayed response here, many thanks for all the information provided!
I'm very glad to hear this is now working for you, however I agree it's certainly strange that it was not working previously.
I wonder if disabling and reenabling this option changed the GPU in use from the Intel HD 530 (where OpenCL was crashing) to your GTX 1060 (where OpenCL is working as expected). I will inform our development team regarding this, should we have any further issues from customers with multiple GPU options.
I'm certainly hopeful that you shouldn't experience any further issues here, but should you have any questions or possible problems with the app, please don't hesitate to post here

I don't usually comment but all I can say is Amazing! and big Thank you! Affinity People for your continued support...It is obvious that a lot of people are struggling with current events!...
These offers do not apply to me...which does not concern me in the slightest...The applications are a bargain at full price!...but it's not about the price....It is about what you can achieve... I am just relieved that I had the incentive to engage with this software in the first instance...into my fifth year now...with over 200 drawings and 1000's of brushes and assets!... none of which would have been completed without these apps!

I cannot believe that there would be any negative response... to offering software that is innovative, evolved so rapidly at a discount...

Please keep sending me emails like this. 50% off everything in the Affinity store is a great way to reward your customers. Especially so, during the pandemic.

I have just received your completely unnecessary email of 19 January "We’re here to help – use our apps free for 90 days" WHY I am a registered used of all three apps plus add ons. I do not need to be offered a 90  Day Free Trial, and 50% off all apps etc.
Unnecessary emails clog up email in boxes and will tend in the future to just dump email from affinity without reading them.
Someone in your marketing departments needs to be sacked.
Please put a stop on this type of email to existing customers.

I'm really not sure why you're all discussing this. We have never given out ETA on releases / patches / betas, etc (and never will, for obvious reasons). I realise you may be excited to try out the new version as an official retail release (or even get a new beta update), but complaining about slow development is not an accurate thing to say. The Windows version has massively improved performance in the most recent betas, and we continue to add new features, and fix bugs as we go. The time period between releases does not reflect the amount of work that is happening, it merely reflects the time delays between when I make a build, how it gets on with internal testing, and then when I release it to the public. We have builds that are never released onto the forum (which happened last week, build #308 crashes on Windows 7, so it was never released externally).
And with regards to GPU Compute, yes it's something that's on my roadmap, but the complexities of implementing this on Windows are far greater than macOS. macOS has one GPU manufacturer, and Apple are in control of the drivers (you get the latest ones automatically). Windows has at least 3 GPU manufacturers, and the drivers are in a variety of different states and ages - we see that from bug reports here on the forum (i.e. crashes that are solved by merely uninstalling and reinstalling your GPU drivers).
Aside from GPU Compute (and ability to load RAW files via Apple RAW engine), there are no feature differences between the macOS and Windows versions.

Hi, yesterday I was following the tutorial in the AP book for the Search The Woods project. So far it is going great. Where I have difficulty is when I create the pixel layer for the Pen tool (flashlight). Everything works with the Pen tool and then I convert to a selection and I can see the ants, I select the white color and try to fill the selection with the fill (bucket) tool but the color is not white. Is there something wrong that I am doing? Should I do something else instead of using the bucket tool?
    Thank you, Jacques

    Hi artofmtl,

    Welcome to the forums

This is because in your first screenshot you aren't logged into the store so it doesn't actually know where we are shipping to. Once you have signed in and provided your shipping address it will recalculate to the correct shipping cost instead of guessing where you are located. It looks as though in your first image it had guessed it would be shipping within the USA and not to Canada.
