Please give the user the option to turn on / off visibility of guides outside the artboard / canvas : Suggestion is for Designer but the functionality will probably be welcomed by users of the entire suite:

    Hello.
I know these two functions have been asked before and some people question them ( specially the Shape Builder Tool) but I found a quick video that shows them working together.
I think these are the only two things I'm missing from Illustrator . These two tools are  pretty much essential for Logo and Brand Designers (which I'm sure are a big market )
Hope they are added to the road map soon , now that you are working on the improved convert to path function.
    Thanks

It would be nice if Affinity Photo also have an Rotate view tool like in Photoshop.
Click R or rotate button to rotate.

Footnotes may not be essential for a general non-fiction work, where either no referencing is given or endnotes will suffice. However footnotes are essential in any serious academic work. The reader of which should not have to keep on jumping between pages and the end of a chapter to see the reference. I hope we will see this feature soon.

Are footnotes and endnotes currently possible (besides manually creating them, of course)? I haven't found them so far.
If not, this is a feature that I think would be widely used. I suspect it may take some time to get right if it is not yet under development, so I would understand if it is not a day-1 feature.

I have been using Photoshop Elements for a few years now but recently purchased Affinity Photo because I have been impressed by videos I’ve seen of the software.

One of the things I like in PSE is I can use the roundness slider in the brush settings to squish/flatten (my technical term) a brush down somewhat which I find very useful but I haven’t found a way of doing this in Affinity Photo – or to be more correct I have only been able to achieve something like it in Affinity Photo by using the Shape and Rotation sliders under the General tab in the Brush Selection choices. BUT this only works on a very few of the brushes and not on all as in PSE. Am I missing something ?

Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hi ChristiduToit,
I agree with you. I logged/brought up this issue quite some time ago with development (as a bug) but it was marked as by design at the time since it was working as intended/coded (no dithering). It's now (re)opened as an improvement request but as always it's up to development to decide if/when to add/implement it to the app. Thanks for your feedback/support.

Thanks for the quick response @MEB

Is it perhaps worth exploring dithering the brushes in that way for future updates?

It would be incredibly beneficial to the final outcome for all users, and soft brushes are such a commonly used feature in illustration, digital painting, graphic design and photo editing (especially), which pretty much covers all of the fields that Affinity apps are purposely created for. If the soft brushes create a low resolution, banded look while editing/painting, then they are basically useless - just the honest truth. If the soft brushes don't appear 'soft' then I may not be able to use Photo for a vast majority of my work.

Working in 16-bit does help a lot, but it's not a practical solution as file sizes are huge in comparison, and often causes lagging and slow performance as a result.

Would really love to see this addressed in a future update, as the soft brushes play a big role in my work (and a lot of other peoples' work too).

I frequently create documents set in the traditional German Fraktur alphabet, which requires certain ligatures that are not used in texts set with ordinary Roman letters. The most important one of these is the use of the so-called long s (Unicode U+0073), which may not be used interchangeably with the normal so-called round s but is used according to certain rules. The best Fraktur fonts out there are those that have been digitized by Gerhard Helzel (see http://www.fraktur.biz/). His OpenType fonts have been programmed to employ all required ligatures including the long vs. round s. These fonts work perfectly with Word for Windows 2010 and later and with InDesign as well as with XeLaTeX and certain other freeware programs. Most of them (not all) also work with QuarkXPress 2015. With the beta version of Affinity Publisher, the automatic setting of long vs. round s doesn't work, although conventional ligatures do seem to work.
On my wish list would be that the above-mentioned OpenType ligature automatic would work also with Affinity Publisher.

    Hi indoordave,
    Welcome to the forums
Please double check, with the clone brush selected, that you are using a suitable brush size, your Opacity, Scale and Flow are set to 100% on your context toolbar and Source is set to Current Layer.
Now press More on the context toolbar and check your brush settings are similar to mine shown below:

    I hope this helps!

I have a similar issue. Cloning does not do anything. I am on the right (and at the moment only layer). There are no adjustment layers. I can set the cross with alt + click. But when I try to paint, the cross moves in the selected distance to my mouse but nothing is painted to the layer. When I change flow from 0% to about 30% it paints something. But with 0% absolutely nothing.
    Affinity Photo 1.6.5.135
BTW: It would be good to have some kind of obvious feedback on what layer one is actually working on in order to avoid confusing situations and accidently painting on the wrong layer. However in my case it does not seem to be a layer problem at all. Looks like a bug to me...  Please note, I am a beginner also, so I may be mistaken.

    Hello AffinityNewbie7,
I would have thought that Designer or Publisher would be much better tools for this task than Photo.
Perhaps you could show us an example of what you hope to produce?

How did you rotate your canvas? I thought that feature wasn't supported yet in Photo. Didn't know you could make the top bars with the Personas and tool settings float either (how do you set that up?).

Your painting looks nice so far, but would have liked to see the whole thing.

The leaf bits came out with a nice painterly look, while the strawberry itself came out very realistically!  If you ever have the chance, I'd be interested to see how you do your preparation before you start building and workflow once you do start.

This was mainly to try a few different ways of doing things to see if the extra effort was worthwhile or not. The main thing was not to use gradients but draw a bunch of objects to make pseudo-gradients so you've a bit more control over things. There a few rough bits like the leaves but it's ok. As usual it took longer than I expected, I should really have learnt by now.
