Things I have heard you (collectively) say:
"early autumn" "and we will release it on the app store when we feel it is ready" "should...couple months...maybe" You guys make GREAT software. And despite my frustration, I still plan to support it. You have a long way to go in forecasting / publishing timelines.

    Oh, and separately, regarding DAM:
"No, there's no ETA yet. It was announced just a few months ago."
    Pssst, its a YEAR later.

    Hi All,

For a number of months now behind the scenes we have been producing a workbook for Affinity Designer, and I'm pleased to let you know it is available from today!

This is a big book - 448 pages, in hardback - and it includes fantastic projects created by some top designers, as well as a comprehensive reference to all our tools and panels, and a set of core skills tutorials.

You can find more information about it here.

Usual price is $49.99 / £37.99, but we are running a 20% discount for the launch making it only $39.99 / £29.99 (+ shipping and handling).

It's worth pointing out that right now the book is only available in English but we do plan to do a German version which should be available towards the end of the year.

    Hope you like it!

    Thanks,
    Ash

Out of interest, what advantages does it have over YouTube or Vimeo? I'm surprise its on there. Twitch TV is primarily used for Games - mainly live streaming and E-Sport. Creative work and tutorials is the last place I would expect that site to have. If you take a look at Twitch about page, their first line is:

'Twitch is the world’s leading social video platform and community for gamers.'

I would expect these contents to be available on Vimeo and YouTube though, not Twitch.

Edit: We do have our own channel page in a way. It's on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/macaffinity/videos/

UPDATE: Affinity Designer 1.5.3 is now available on the Mac App Store and fixes the problems described in this thread.

*** PLEASE NOTE *** We have just noticed a problem with the latest Mac AppStore Designer update (ver 1.5.2) and are working to resolve it have resolved it.

Running this update will reset any brushes, styles, text styles, swatches, keyboard shortcut customization and workspace layout you may have added.

We are extremely sorry about this and will have a fix available within the next 24 hours.

If you have installed the new update and have customised any settings then please don't run Designer until we have deployed a replacement update (Designer ver 1.5.3).

Alternatively we have a workaround available to save the presets for those users that have updated but haven't opened the app yet.

Again, we are very sorry and will make sure this never happens again.

“Hi, my name is David and I’m a Macaholic!”

My graphic design career has spanned the time when all graphics had to be produced manually as pasteups (started in 1974 with that mode of operation) to the present day when it is all digitally produced.

My first Mac was an SE bought near the end of 1987 (or was it 1988?  Recall is fuzzy now on that), and my first major application that I purchased was Adobe Illustrator 88 (that was the version that came out just prior to Illustrator Ver. 3, I believe).  After that purchase, it wasn’t long till I also had obtained Photoshop (version 3, I believe it was) and PageMaker.

Through the years I bought many upgrades to Adobe products (Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, etc.) as well as Adobe fonts and utilities such as Adobe Type Manager.  I graduated from PageMaker to QuarkXPress way back when.  Later, Adobe came out with their bundle called the Creative Suite.   I upgraded everytime that Adobe came out with an upgrade to the CS suite…. I still have disk sets for CS3, CS4, CS5, CS5.5 and CS6.

Alas, that’s where it will end since Adobe has made its decision to do subscriptions only.   Their vision of a business model is unacceptable to me.  I do not like the idea of paying forever and then, if I stop paying, I have nothing to show for it application-wise, and I also then have no access to files made in the various Adobe proprietary formats.

As I mentioned in another post on this site, with the way Adobe has things set up now, they are effectively proclaiming:

“ALL YOUR BEZIERS ARE BELONG TO US.”

And so, it is with great anticipation and hope that I now follow the development and, hopefully, deployment of the Affinity line of products.  I am VERY hopeful that this suite of applications will become a major player in the design industry and thereby provide a viable alternative to the Adobe hegemony.

Contrary to what others have expressed, I think the choice of starting with a vector application (Designer) is a good choice.  There are currently no other viable, full-fledged and/or Mac-native vector drawing programs out there that I’m aware of, so it is good that Serif is starting with that one first.

If Designer can prove to be a well thought out and viable product, then it will act as an introduction to Affinity products for design firms and thus allow a foothold to be gained in an otherwise Adobe-dominated world.

So, I salute the people at Serif/Affinity and I wish the best for your development and product line!  I hope to be one of the first to buy Designer (and your other products) when they become available for purchase!

    All the best…..

       - David

Hi, I'm Gregg. I am new to DrawPlus. I've looked  at it for a few years but always decided against it because it was Windows based. I've have always had Parallels installed on my iMac but thought using software more native to the Mac (a lot more efficient to use). I am retired and  dabble in art. My favorite software has been Sketchbook Pro and ArtRage. As for Vector programs for the Mac, they are limited. I have and used iDraw and Artboard. Both have their pluses and minus. So, a couple of days ago I decided to dip my toes in the water and bought DrawPlus 5 to see if I really like working with it on Parallels. I knew from previous experience that it was a really good program that fit in with what I like to do. I made my first entry in the DrawPlus forum and was told about DrawPlus (Beta) on the Mac. I've beta tested for a couple of CADD program and thought this would be fun. I'm looking forward to this program because the Mac needs a really good vector drawing program like DrawPlus.

With the crop tool in PS I can set a size (like 100x100px) and then make a selection in the image and with enter-key get the cropped area in the px dimensions entered. T

If I set absolute dimensions and resize the crop border, the dimensions change accordingly.

If I set the pixel size as a custom ratio, the result will have the right ratio but still the original pixels contained in the crop box. It would need to be resized in a second step.

A "crop and resize to xxx by yyy pixels" option would be consistent with PS and really helpful...

satamaptafe reacted to deeds in Keyboard Shortcuts Cheat Sheet for Affinity Tools!
Some programs, if they were really smart, might go into a sort of "screen saver" all of their own, that perhaps floated around an image of something like this, with all the shortcuts in each different mode, and the modes selectable, so that the shortcut icons on the keys could be shown LARGE, for easy recognition.

The real dream would be having  a visual cue sheet of the shortcuts on an iPad next to the computer, and pressing on them at any time to select the desired item, and it flashing up a keyboard shortcut to remind/teach the user how to become less dependent on the iPad for shortcuts, and progressively move to using the keyboard and modifier key combos.

Affinity has now become officially cross-platform with the launch of Affinity Designer for Windows. It was our trail-blazing first app, and since being launched on Mac the response we have had to it has been unbelievable. It’s consistently been the top paid-for design app on Mac since launch, we’ve won a coveted Apple Design Award and there have been thousands of 5-star customer reviews on the Mac App Store.

For many designers, Affinity Designer has become their go-to app for everything from creating concept art, print projects, logos and icons to UI design, web graphics and mock-ups. And because Affinity Designer on Windows matches the Mac version feature-for-feature, PC users can now experience the same thrilling speed, incredible tools and supreme accuracy which has given Affinity Designer that formidable reputation.

The current feature set and the roadmap of Affinity products should make a lot pf people question their use of Adobe products.

But it would be nice to purchase Photo at the same discount as Designer :)

The problem is we are having multiple conversations in the same thread so I will have another go at explaining.

So, you can add noise to any shape by using the noise slider on the main colour panel. You show the noise slider by clicking the button shown in the image below. You can also add noise to gradient stops using the same slider when in the gradient tool.

You can also add noise to shadows and glows using the colour button in the actual LayerFx UI as shown below.

    Hope that helps.

I too much prefer the original icons. The icons give a visual message of what they do, especially the Publisher icon compared to the new version. Why does AFFINITY have to follow a trend? Most thing come round full circle and only dead fish swim with the current.
I hate to criticise as I am a great fan of AFFINITY and the way you guys interact with users.

I am sure that this should have been grayed out, since no category existed in which to add the Style.

Are the two options not the same?

If they are the same, then it is confusing that one is called Create and the other Add.
