Affinity Beta install conversation (split)
PaulEC replied to Pyanepsion's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on Windows threads
To be honest this doesn't seem to be exactly a major problem, spending, say, 2 or 3 seconds deleting a shortcut when you install an app. To make it even quicker just hold shift when you delete the shortcut and you won't need to empty the "trash". 😉 -
Import it into "Macro" not "Library", then "Add to Library". (If you're not sure how, mouse over the small icons at the top of the tab.) (You'll need an image open in order to add the macro to the "Macro" tab.)

(It has been mentioned several times in these forums!) To be honest this seems to be more of an issue with Apple, rather than with Serif, as it applies to all apps purchased from the Apple AppStore. Surely it would be more appropriate to ask Apple for a refund, as their version of APhoto is not working to your satisfaction, rather than asking Serif to give you a free copy of it.

Problems with certain JPGs
PaulEC replied to Joerg M.'s topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on macOS threads
JPGs don't normally have transparency, could you upload the actual JPG? -
Personally I would get rid oe the white background first (Filters - Colour - Erase white Paper) Then use the rectangular select tool to select each number, one at a time, then create a new layer (Ctrl+J) Do this for each one (not forgetting to make sure you are selecting on the original image!) Depending on what you want to do, it might be handy to save each number as an Asset, so that you can use them again whenever you want.

Small caps text
PaulEC replied to pcdlibrary's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
https://designforhackers.com/blog/small-caps/ 😉 'Not too sure how many people (other than typographers) would spot the difference, but I suppose that's no reason not to get it right! -
It's really just a matter of personal choice. I don't have the workbooks, and have no idea how or why Serif decide what projects to put in which workbook! There are many things that can be done, in different ways, in different apps. I don't think that just because Serif choose not to have a project on a particular subject in a workbook, it means that that app is not suitable for that type of job. 😉 As I said, I prefer to use Publisher for designing book covers (and the interiors), and Photo for editing images that I use on the cover. But that's just my choice, there's no reason why you can't do the whole thing in Photo if you want to, I just find the text layout, bleeds etc easier in Publisher.
