It was hardly without notice! Serif made it very clear, years ago, that they were no longer going to sell or support the old "Plus" range of software. They also made it clear what the three new Affinity apps would be and that they did not intend to replace WebPlus or MoviePlus. There have also been a number of posts in these forums, mentioning that the old, legacy, software is no longer supported by Serif.

Hi @fijenk Welcome to the forum. From what you are saying, I'm assuming you're just talking about the way the files are displayed on screen, rather than when you export them. APhoto and ADesigner have different screen display options, which can affect the way you view the same file in the two apps. It's worth keeping in mind that, although you can open all Affinity files in any of the apps. APhoto is not intended for vectors and does not have the same options as ADesigner, which is.

Seems to be the same on Windows, but as JimPetty pointed out, it's odd that it only happens with C! EDIT: I think I've tracked it down! c. is listed in Abbreviations and C. gets auto corrected to c. - remove it from the list of Abbreviations and it is no longer "corrected".

If you have a multi screen setup, and vary how many screens you use, the easiest thing is to set up Studio Presets for each layout. That way it's easy to reset the layout if something goes "missing"!

I'm probably missing something (nothing new for me!), but isn't the easiest thing just to create a template with the grid you want, rather than creating a new document each time? (Yes, I know you'd need a different template for each page size, but how many different page sizes do you actually need?)

At the risk of being APITA, it would be nice not to use any copyrighted images! Maybe use the Stock panel and search Pexels or Pixabay. 😉

You learn something new everyday! I had assumed that a "parallel pen" was one that drew a number of parallel lines in one go. (Such as for drawing music staves, or for drawing a thick and thin line in parallel with one stroke.)

I'd certainly agree that one big problem is that, rather than looking at the Affinity Suite as it is, a lot of people just expect it to be a cheap version of Adobe products.

I would fully agree with this. I definitely wouldn't want the Cropping Tool in Photo to be changed. But I do think it might be handy to have an alternative cropping tool that works in the same way as in Designer. There are times, for example when compositing several pictures, that it would be handy to be able to quickly and simply crop individual layers. It's not a big deal for me, there are other ways to do it, but it would be useful occasionally.

I get the feeling that this is a rhetorical question, and is a rather roundabout way of saying that you think it should be available in Photo! If so I would certainly agree that it would be handy to be able to crop individual objects (as well as the whole canvas, not instead!) in Photo, without having to open the file in Designer.

From what dcr said, they have already bought the v1 of the Affinity Suite and are planning to buy v2, when it is available! (Same here! 😉)

For best control over the final image, rather than converting the picture to greyscale, it's probably better to add a Black and White Adjustment, then add a Gradient Map. This way you can tweak the settings to adjust both colour and contrast quite easily.

Going on some of the posts from people who get upset about having to pay for v2 of the Affinity Suite (when it comes), they would probably have bought the Osbourne 1 computer, and then expected to be given all future versions of it for free! 😄

Hi @Thierry Lay Welcome to the forums. It would probably help if you could tell us a bit more about this "specific Coloring Procedure". Otherwise it's quite difficult to know exactly what you are trying to do!

You could also try to "save as" with a different file name.

For clarification, in the Refine Selection dialogue, just pressing matte, foreground or background doesn't do anything. They are settings for the brush. (matte to select edges, foreground for the parts you want to keep, background for the parts you want to remove.) Normally, especially with a really simple image with a plain background, you shouldn't need to use foreground or background at all. As long as the original selection was made accurately, you should only need to make minimal, if any, refinement adjustments. If you then select mask, or new layer with mask, in the output setting, that should be all you need to get a clean cut out.

Actually that's exactly what it is! Affinity Publisher was "built from the ground up". It did replace PagePlus, (in the sense that they are both DTP apps from Serif) but is a completely different piece of software. (Having said that, I do agree that it's about time APub supported spanning tables across multiple pages!)

Although using the panorama tool does seem to give a sharper result, it also seems to introduce some distortion. (A problem, that has been raised before when stitching some images, as there are no adjustments available.) To be honest I usually find it easier to retouch the final image, rather than trying to do it on individual layers. Edit: It also seems to work well removing problem items from the individual pics before stacking/pano; but I'm sure it all depends on the original images.

Strange how some people do nothing but complain about the Affinity apps and praise rival software for being so much better. I really don't understand why they don't just use their preferred software and stop endlessly complaining here! (Especially when their complaints are often only matters of personal opinion.) It's also sad how childish some people can be if you dare to disagree with them! However, I've had enough of this, the ignore option is very useful!

I thought I'd try this out and must say that the panorama tool seems to give a better result than stacking. However, in all fairness, the original images I used had been intended for a panorama; I suspect that the result from stacking would be much better if the original images lined up more closely.

Until you solve this problem, I would strongly suggest that you do try to "save as", (if you can), rather than only saving over the same file. At least, that way, you have some recent backups, rather than relying on just one version. Also, as you can export as PDF, do so occasionally. If all else fails. it's better than nothing as a backup.

Hi @MelParker, Welcome to the forums. This is usually caused by resizing a text box using the outer resizing handle at bottom right of the text box. This will also resize the text. Use the handle on the box itself to just resize the box.

Of course, the best option would be if it were possible to use raster brushes, as well as vector, for strokes! (Which, I think, is what the OP was asking for!)
