I know I have wondered this before and never quite found a solution but if I copy from one document that's 300 dpi vs another that is 600 dpi the radius' and arcs will all double (or shrink going the other way)? Is that a bug or a feature because it doesn't really make sense to me and I need to understand.

Multiple page spreads with multiple sizes options in each spread is a requirement nowadays. One can do that just fine in Designer using artboards. I very much like how artboards work in Designer and something along those lines would be great for Publisher.

I'm working on converting my Indesign newspaper spreads to Affinity for testing. My newspaper spreads, which are 2 facing pages (10.33x16.25" each page) came in as one large single page. I also get quite a few crashes when trying to open the IDML files.

You are right. Adobe can only place PDF files, not open them. Of course they can still be vector but that's it. This might be a good opportunity to show your colleague Affinity as it really can do a lot that Indesign cannot, especially if you can show how you can edit pictures without going to Photoshop. Affinity brilliantly opens PDF, IDML, or can copy and paste fairly well from Indesign. It is a shame that Indesign has not had much love in the last 10 years. It's basically the same as CS6 with a few small things added. I have to pay the subscription or I would be locked out of my thousands of INDD files. Show knows though now that IDML is available for import, I think it will change everything.

I don't know if this is pertinent but for those who want to abandon Indesign can you use the Acrobat plugin Quite Imposing Plus 5. It now can take your Affinity PDF's (or any for that matter) and apply CSV merges to them.
I also am excited for the day when we can finally have mail merges. That and raster to vector conversions are the only thing I see needed just about! Maybe vector warping.

I just opened a batch of newspaper ads in a file (probably 100 or so) and the conversion took a little time but it seemed to work. Even handling the broken links and fonts similar to Indesign. Great job! We'll be trying it out a lot more in the coming days.

I also see this error fairly regularly with large files that have lots of links.
Files that I know cause issues I duplicate first by holding down option and dragging the file in finder. I've also noticed that when I save successfully I can duplicate the file even if it's open by doing the same thing in finder.
I've also noticed something that helps is before saving let Affinity rest for a minute (if links might still be loading in the background) and then save.

I'm sure a professional printer is not using Indesign to do n-up or Step and repeat. There are dedicated programs out there just for the functions needed press and step and repeat and n-up are just the basics. Quite Imposing is quite amazing - also made by the Brits - and gives so much more that it is worth every penny. Since it works with PDFs you have the functions from any program, not requiring it to be built into every one.

I ordered a workbook for Photo and there is quite a few updates in it. I was very surprised considering when I did 1.7 had just come out. I think the books are print on demand.

I do wonder about the energy/environmental impact.
Once the book is made it's done with any negative impacts.
On the other hand the digital file may not cost much upfront - not counting the cost of constant upgrades of electronics, required to read the file, and will easily outlive the many devices you will have, but it must continue to use energy every time the file is opened. Even 100 years from now, if it's even able to be found/opened/formats changed will require electricity. The book, however, will still sit nicely on the shelf and will be retained - possibly for hundreds of years, without ever using any more electricity to be read.
When it's time to discard the book permanently, it will gently go back to the dirt - clay coatings and all, while the device(s) must be recycled and cost much more. Most are not as we know but thrown in landfills, heavy metals, lithium batteries, lead, and more.
Which was more environmentally friendly?

I am trying to but even getting the file to save as is a real problem. It just seems to hang here:
With the CPU at 700% and fans at full blast.
I'm not sure what will happen. The computer is still running just fine even with Publisher - essentially frozen.
After about 5 minutes the fans kicked down and CPU is at 100% but it's much cooler. The "Save Document as" progress bar is still the same though.

I'm not sure if this should be bug or should be filed somewhere else.
I go to save the file and get an error message about the file could not be saved, shutting down. I go to open it again and now the file is damaged.
This happens randomly but enough that I keep multiple files because it happens often enough to cause fits.
The file is local running on MacOS Catalina in Publisher 1.7.3 on a 16" Macbook pro. The file is local rather on a server.

I do have a 2019 15" that still has Mojave on it (probably won't be upgraded). I'll try and check it out on there and see what happens.

Mine does it to on the native screen. I assume it's some sort of display driver glitch. There are still quite a few bugs in Catalina too. Does it do it with any other effect. I have the 8GB ATI graphics upgrade too.

Here is what it looks like on mine:
It looks pretty good here but that's because I'm zoomed out a little. I see that your new mac is running at a lot higher resolution than your 2011 iMac and I think that has to do with everything. The way Affinity handles graphics, is based upon how zoomed in you are to move all of the pixels around. If I zoom in and do it I get the same look as you. So I think it has a lot to do with the drivers and Affinity moving around a lot more pixels on the retina display. Mine is recorded on an external 4k display since I'm at work.
This is also not lag in the traditional sense but it's skipping frames, giving the jumping look. It's doing that so it can move in real time rather than the 60 FPS and then have lag if it has to display all 60, then it would have to slow down.
It might help to disable Automatic graphic switching in the Energy Saver control panel.

I have Publisher 1.7.3 running on MacOS 10.15.2 (doesn't seem to matter) on a 16" Macbook Pro.
Problem: After having a file open that has a lot of links to large files - that I can edit just fine. I save and close and the Publisher freezes.
If I open the file and don't do any editing and just check resources, I can close everything just fine without it freezing.
While using it Publisher will be taking up 15-20GB of RAM and that is fine as there is 64 GB of RAM.
I have tried different things such as upgrading the OS but none seems to help. The Publisher file involved is actually small at 16 MB. I can post the file but the links are absolutely massive if need to attach that too at 10GB+.
It just feels like a resource issue and I'm not sure how to help.

I also have the 16" Macbook Pro but I find it's extremely fast in Affinity. I have about 10 macs spread throughout the last decade and it's by far the fastest in all of the Affinity programs. I'm using 100's of 20MB+ JPG files and loading is a little slow because they are linked but otherwise it's fine once they are in.
I have another glitch and that is the Affinity Publisher freezes on exit like it hangs up trying to flush the cache as it's holding over 15GB of memory.
I'm going to post in a new thread as I don't want to hijack this one.

I too come from the Adobe world after 25+ years. I found that after a short time with Designer to be much more intuitive at drawing strokes, arboards, combining shapes and more. I actually got the book and went through the tutorials included and that was a tremendous day of learning. Pretty much one Saturday. It can also be helpful if you are drawing these items in "3d" to use the isometric plane tool - though confusing after first.

I'm making a business card and having a problem with a white back ground on a text on a path. I've chekced the fill and it's black, which is modifying the text.
What is causing this white fill or stroke? I don't see it anywhere as a setting for baseline or anything. I found the white fill enlarges itself if I enlarge the text so it has something to do with the text itself.

The image itself was vector lines and fills at 100% black and instead of going through each one by one and changing them to white I thought I could use the option to rasterize and do it all at once. Once rasterized I thought it would be easy to change color or invert. For some reason neither is easy to do when something has been rasterized in Affinity.

So here is what I am getting with the different options:
The inverted in photoshop is what I would expect of a straight invert. i can't seem to get it to work.
First Defense: You are close but the I can see a difference between the lines and the background.
@Old Bruce: Yes, it is all black and white. There is no gray. The gray you see comes from the background pasteboard. Or I should say, "There should be no gray." I'm not exactly sure what Affinity does with the 1 bit files because it does seem to change them from black to a combination making black.
@v_kyryou have produced the look I am going for, but I'm not sure how you got there. Wass it as simple as clicking invert?
Coming from years of using Photoshop, what I expect as invert, just isn't the same and something I need to relearn.

Undo on Mac doesn't work - bug?

I updated to the latest and greatest 1.8 for Designer and now when I edit anything the Undo is grayed out and the cmd+z doesn't work. The command and menu work fine in Publisher.
