I fail to see how any of these issues are Serif's problems. 1. The computer could be upgraded - problem solved. Any computer in the last five years will run it fine. I have a 12 year old iMac that won't run it. I wish it would, but the time has come to upgrade that worker's computer. 2. See 1 3. You don't need a $5,000 laptop to run the affinity line. Not sure where that number came from. However, I do take a $5000 laptop with me even when camping or hiking, and I have to do some business, so easily possible. Backwards compatibility might be something you want, but it's not beneficial to Serif, nor do competitors allow the previous version to open the newest unless you export as a really old format which strips stuff out all the time.

Someone commenting with no experience? Come on man! It works just fine and exactly the same if you had tried it. The price is 40% off and even cheaper if you buy the whole set as one app. Clearly just posting to complain.

I have the exact same thing happening. When the slices export location dialog box comes up, I get the spinning beach ball. I have deleted Finder preferences, started in safe mode, etc. I have Dropbox but not saving to Dropbox folder. I would say this happens 50%+ of the time. Specs: Late 16" 2019 MPB Intel I9 - 64GB RAM - 2TB SSD This started, along with many other OS issues after "upgrading" to Monterey. Never had any issues under Catalina but I was told for security reasons I needed to upgrade. I should not have listened. it's best to stay with the OS it came with and was designed for, I think.

not sure. I get files that do that sometimes too.

it was marketed as professional, but we never took it seriously because it never could output correct PDF's. They were always RGB even if the colors were correct in the file. Pageplus could export separations but we do not want the programs exporting them. Printers need to control how the files are exported and separated for their equipment and imposition purposes. Affinity programs can export correctly with spot colors and pantone colors in the exported PDF files. I always wanted PagePlus to export right, but it couldn't. I still use it for things such as calendars and other items because I don't know of any thing else that can do that. I then export the files as PDF, correct the colors, and then import them into Affinity or Adobe (pretty much have left Indesign). If I could find another generic calendar maker, I would drop Parallels and Pageplus, but for now I haven't found anything that competes with this old program.

I was a PagePlus user back from 1993. I find the the new apps very refreshing. not much changed throughout the years with Serif other than small upgrades here and there for Windows OS. It's nice to see Serif saw the future and took it. It was not with Pageplus. i had moved to the Mac and the only way was to use Parallels. Now I can use it on anything and it's tremendously more powerful. I would sacrifice all templates - I don't need them. I want tools to get the job done and Affinity has put Serif on the right path.

I just uploaded the files. @Anto - all pictures are the same size 5x7@300. I want them to shrink to put on buttons. @walt.farrellI was using picture frames. I'm not sure how to data merge pictures without frames.

i saw your post to and I think they are related. I didn't want to hijack the post because I wasn't sure if it was connected. This is about the only thing I use Indesign for now is data merging pictures and I was hoping to switch to Affinity for that.

I've got a problem. Pictures in a data merge always go to 100%. I have repositioned and resized them smaller to fit the item and I turn the preview off and on and it's back to where it was. This is in Affinity Publisher 1.10.5. I've tried exporting it with the way I want them and they export wrong too. Am I doing something wrong?

no. What I want is to be able to export a PDF that has the layers from Affinity to show in Acrobat. Such as a topographical map where I can turn off or on named layers in Acrobat such as streets or water lines, etc. where the layers transfer to Acrobat as are named in Affinity. I had not seen this before until today.

I recently saw an autocad PDF that held the layers/names and the ability to turn them on and off like in Affinity but this is in the exported PDF. How can I do this in Affinity Designer?

I believe we have figured this problem out. It's in the Mac Mini's themselves. We bought a second M1 Mac Mini and it had the same issue and was connected directly to the network - no wall wiring. What happens is that after a while the network on the computer seems to lose packets and then loses it's connection to shares even though it shows connected. The issue is with the network adapter and how it works in automatic mode on IP6 DNS configuration. If you have it set to automatic it will eventually run out of a cache space in the configuration as it continually tries to update it's status. The solutions seems to be this: I believe you can set it to Manually or Link-Local only and it will fix the issue (click apply or ok). Yesterday was the first day of heavy usage (newspaper day) and it never had one issue with it stuttering or network responsiveness and we had no files close. These files get relatively large - on average 300 MB - and we don't embed anything - so this was a good sign. This was successful on both M1 Minis that were exhibiting the issue. I may change it on all of our computers. Hopefully this will help anyone else that may be using these computers on a network.

The way to do this in 2022 is to open this in Publisher and go to your pages pallet and click convert artboards to pages.

Got a new problem that I have not encountered before and I believe it is probably a simple option that I am missing. In Designer 1.10.4 Mac OS (doesn't matter which) I have an artboard and off to the side I have objects for placing on the artboard for building an ad. I select items on the artboard and then I can no longer click and select objects outside the artboard, even on other artboards. I am locked to specifically that artboard. In the layers pallet I can choose objects outside the artboard and then I can select others directly outside the artboard as normal, but as soon as I click in that artboard again, anything else else outside that artboard is once again unselectable. It does look like it wants to select has a has a blue glow that fades around the object as you click the item the first time. I restarted the Designer. I tried the same file on another computer. They all have that going on now for that specific file. What did I click that made this happen? thanks!

I am having a similar problem see here: This is specifically happening from a document that has been imported and using an IDML text frame and the new one specifically being AFPUB frame. If I remove the text out of the IDML frame from the beginning and put it in an Publisher frame (no IDML's in the chain) it's fine. if I duplicate the IDML frame, clear the contents and then link to it, the text is fine. It seems to me that if there is an IDML frame ANYWHERE in the chain, previous or future, it could cause this. Doesn't always happen though.

it seems to only do it when I link an IDML text frame to an affinity created text frame.

I wish you luck. Do you have a backup that you could pull from and make edits? I have had the same issue with one of our Macs recently.
