Here's another example of what I'm having trouble with: I want to unlink the last page of linked text because I was able compress the document slightly so that the last couple of lines that flowed to this page are now with the previous page. So I looked up unlink in help and this is what I found: Easy peasy, right? Except I can't find the tool panel. Here's what my topbar looks like:

Thank you Mike. I agree about going to help, which I have been doing and it has been very helpful. But, my first problem was (please don't laugh) not about reading what to do, but how to find the specific panel in the first place. That's why I thought a map would help. For example, after searching for the word paragraph on my Publisher window, it finally dawned on me to click the paragraph symbol--D'oh.

First off, I'm really quite pleased with the results I'm getting so far. So I hope it's okay for me to post this. But, my frustration is with finding the specific tool I need to do what I need to do. I'm really having a lot of trouble navigating through all the options to find what I need. Perhaps it's because up until about a month ago, I was using PagePlus (needed footnotes and it wasn't available until Publisher2) and I keep trying to find certain things arranged like they were in the legacy software. Is there maps for the various functions--Paragraph in particular--that I can use as a guide to find the subfunctions without having to troll through random selections until I find what I'm looking for. I think a map would also show me the hierarchies, which is what I really need to wrap my head around this rather fantastic tool.

I imported text with footnotes from a word document and so far, it seems to be working how I need it to. However, I appears that if a paragraph doesn't end at the spot where the footnote needs to be placed, the text crashes against the line separating the text from the footnote (the attached image shows both, where the left page has the footnote appear before the paragraph ends, and the footnote on the right page follows the paragraph end. Is there a parameter I can set that would add a bit of space (a point or 2) between the text and the footnote. I tried to figure it out, but I don't know what to look for. Thanks in advance. This forum has been super helpful.

Publisher 2: open multiple tabs

Thank you! I completely missed it because I was looking for it on top where PagePlus had it. Phew. -
A bit of background to explain my goals: I'm a volunteer editor for the American Branch of the Richard III Society. Twice yearly, we publish a magazine in the form of a 6 by 9 inch printed booklet and digital PDF. My objective is to have one file for both editions plus a separate file for the cover, which is full CMYK color. Thank you, laurent32 and loukash. I was able to get the desired results by setting up the document as RGB and the output as CMYK. See attached screen captures.

The publication I'm working on is for the American Branch of the Richard III Society (I'm the volunteer editor) has an article on paleography where there are a lot of words with medieval spelling. Of course spellcheck's head exploded, but my issue is with preflight. How do I turn off so-called spelling errors on preflight without having to create an entirely new dictionary? To give you an idea of what preflight flags, here's a transciption of the first line of a will: In the Name of god Amen the xvj day of the moneth of Juny the yer[e] of o[ur] lord god Ml CCCC Preflight also flags ip and email addresses, which I think should be automatically excluded by the software. I do need preflight for everything else.

If all the chapters and the front and back matter are all in one file, you should be able to auto flow the entire book. However, you will have to save it as an rtf file type since it won't accept anything except txt, rtf, and pdf (if I remember correctly). You will also have to create the first four pages (I believe it will generate after that, although I haven't tried it). You will also want to create a master page that has the author name and page number on the left top and the title and page number on the right top of the master. You will probably want to place that above the margin and make the top margin at least 0.6 in down from the top. Also, consult the printer's guidelines for how big the inside and outside margins need to be. You should also not have the images in the document you are flowing, but instead make a note of the image name that you're going to insert on the chapter title pages. If you have footnotes, forget Affinity Publisher for now. I don't know how you'll be able to fiddle the page numbering to start at page one for the first chapter of the book in Affinity Publisher. If you're already using Page Plus, suggest you continue to use it. If you don't and need a desktop publishing program, suggest you go to Serif's legacy products and buy PP9--it's very inexpensive (~$25 USD). Suggest you look at Affinity's YouTube Publisher tutorial here:

I do think the Affinity Publisher developers should bear in mind that any process that requires a "work-around" or extra steps that another product doesn't will probably not switch for productivity considerations. In addition, anything that requires extra work is more prone to error and can be very painful if one is working against deadlines.

I want it to work like it does in Page Plus. There, all I have to do is set up my publication and ONE page. I don't even need to create a text box. I then insert text from file and it automagically creates as many pages as it needs and flows the text. Easy peasy. I just did that for a 330 page book.

Footnotes/Endnotes
Joansz replied to garrettm30's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Still no footnotes and end notes. They are a must have. Product useless without this, IMO.
