ricecrispies got a reaction from Palatino in Printing Gridlines
Here's (attached below) some grid lines I knocked together by tiling an SVG of a 10x10 grid that I found with a google image search. Feel free to improve on it.
My use case is that I need to plan where to put the furniture in the apartment I am going to move into in a couple of weeks, and also what furniture to buy. I simply wanted to put little rectangles representing the furniture at a scale of 1 grid space to 10cm on a scan of the floor plan of the apartment. I tried using both CAD software and free apartment planning software, but they were complete nightmares to work with. However, Affinity Designer turns out to be a very good tool for the job in every respect, except for not printing out the grid lines. Putting this SVG of grid lines second layer from back (just above the scan of the floor plan), and resizing it to approximately match the scale indicated on the drawing, adds those missing printable grid lines.

ricecrispies reacted to kenmcd in Some fonts look completely different in Affinity than in MS word.
Which version of the fonts do you have installed?
In the 2105.24 (2021-05-25) version the names were all messed-up.
Which could cause an issue like this.
The names were fixed in the 2106.17 (2021-07-13) version.
So make sure you have the 2106.17 version.
    https://github.com/microsoft/cascadia-code/releases/tag/v2106.17
If that does not fix it we will need more information.
Also: Do not have the variable fonts installed along with the static fonts.

I have just been informed by a member of our QA team that this issue is a known bug between Anchors and TOC's, which has been fixed in the latest beta 1.10 - unfortunately this fix will only apply to newly created documents/TOCs, but in the meantime a colleague of mine has been able to 'clean up' this document for you - so I'll be sending this back to the email address registered to your Affinity Forum account, through Dropbox.
    I hope this helps!

ricecrispies got a reaction from Old Bruce in Is there a way to print an A6 document in publisher to PDF in Windows?
I've just discovered that I can use Export to create PDFs instead of Print. That gives many more options, including digital PDFs, and doesn't fuss about page size.

ricecrispies got a reaction from walt.farrell in In Publisher, how do you copy somewhere and paste somewhere else?
    Thank you!
All of those solutions work. Previously. I'd been clicking on the empty space in the target page, thinking that I selecting an irrelevant object was not what I wanted to do.

It's going to paste on the current page, which, if all you have done is scroll in the Pages panel or in the main view, will still be the page you copied from.
You need to do something to set the new current page, which could be:
Navigating via the page navigator next to the Status Bar; or Double-clicking on the target page in the Pages panel; or (I think) clicking on something on the target page.

You'll want to edit the styles and set Paragraph > Tab Stops as follows: Right 0 in from right. To get the dots click the ellipsis next to the tab direction and select (.) When you're done it should look like this:

ricecrispies got a reaction from nezumi in Affinity Photo 1.9.2.1035 crashing randomly
Affinity Photo 1.9.2.1035 on Windows 10 has been crashing frequently and fairly randomly since I updated to it. Unfortunately I can't give you much information to pin it down except to say that a couple of the crashes happened while creating a new document, and another crash happened after I switched back to the application after half an hour using my web browser. In that latter case the wrong cursor was displayed and it took a few seconds before the application crashed. But other crashes have occurred while I have been editing my images. All the projects I have been working on since the upgrade were new projects created using the current version of the application.

ricecrispies got a reaction from Dan C in Placing docx with pictures
I've managed to narrow things down a bit further. I also need to be more precise about what I actually did.
Very specifically, I have only managed to reproduce the issue with a Word document (saved from within WPS writer) into which I have copied and pasted from an HTML file that was open in another WPS Office tab. For the layout exercise I am trying to do, the tutor has provided us with templates in the old DOT format. When I copy from the HTML document into that Word document (even if I have saved it first as a DOCX) and then try to place the resultant document in Publisher, I get the freeze.
I do not get the freeze if I simply save the Wikipedia-generated HTML as a DOCX and place that in Publisher. Nor do I get it when I save the template as a DOCX and place that in Publisher without first pasting in the content of the HTML document.
The document I have sent you was saved from a DOT template with the contents of the HTML file pasted into it.

    Good evening.
Personally, in AP, I do that:
Document--> Resize the canvas (Image width x 2).
Copy and paste the photo. Organize--> Horizontal turning.
Activate the magnetism to position with precision.
    (Results on request).

Try Filters > Distort > Mirror. It takes a little experimentation but it will do what you need. It isn't obvious, but you can drag the image on screen for even more control over the finished product.

    Hi ricecrispies,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Do you have cropped the document previously? If you right-click the layer in the Layers panel and select Rasterize then proceed to create the selection and copy/paste it to a new layer does it still behave the same way?

of course. Add an HSL adjustment layer and drag it to your layer (whatever it is). It will only affect the behavior of that layer. If you want it to be global then drag it back to be on top.
