    Hi bleduc,
Here's a way merge them: select all the pixel layers you want to merge, group them, then right-click on the group in the Layers panel and select Rasterise... from the contextual menu. They will me merged into a single pixel layer.

I'm guessing canva does not support the latter.
As a side note, you have to remove xmlns:serif="http://www.serif.com/" from the svg files (use a text editor) to be able to upload to Canva. I guess this was added with the latest version of Affinity Designer.

I am experiencing this issue as well. This does not happen at all in Illustrator, so hopefully this can be fixed in AD as it's a serious annoyance for me right now.

I mentioned before that I’m trying to get Designer iOS to the same level as desktop right now and as soon as I’ve done that I’ll use all my available time to try to sort out expand stroke and geometry issues - but that all depends on how much time I have left... I’m working as fast as I can

    Hi all,

I figured out a way to configure a centered grid design in Affinity Designer, with a custom number of columns and gutter width.

Below is a spreadsheet to calculate the required values. If you make a copy of the file to you Google Drive, you can edit the values.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1imTD6Ao3OJyS0_E-fnHTr5l9GKG9zulM4uIutVZGAnE/edit?usp=sharing

    Example values for the calculation:

    Grid width: 1170 px
    Nr of columns: 12 px
Column width: 97.5 px (= grid width / nr of cols)
    AD Gutter: 30 px
AD Spacing: 67.5 px (= col width - gutter)
    AD Document width: 1335 px (= 2*spacing + gutter + grid width)

Here's how you would use these values in AD to set up your grid.

Create a new document, use the calculated document width, 1335 px in this example.

Go to the View menu, enable 'Show Grid' and open the 'Grid and Axis Manager'

    Apply this grid manager configuration:

    - Untick 'Use automatic grid'
    - Select 'Advanced' mode
    - Untick 'Uniform' under 'Grid type'
    - First Axis spacing: 67,5 px
    - First Axis gutter: 30 px
    - Second Axis spacing: 1000px, for this example we use the document height but you can use any height you like

Add guides to the left side of the first and last gutter.

Go to 'View' - 'Guides Manager'

Add half the gutter width to both guides by appending '+15' and pressing enter.

This should be the final result.

You will end up with two additional columns on the left and right side of the document.
The reason for this is that there is no way to have a margin on the left side of your document using the grid setup.
By following this tutorial you end up with a document that contains 2 more columns, but you simply do not use them. In the export persona, you can easily set the slice to export only the part of your design you need.   In the screenshot below, I've marked the area you actually use.

Of course there is an example .afdesign file to save you the trouble ;)

In fairness, Linux has been "the future" for years - but it still isn't converting many people.  Mainly because most flavours of it have always been so impenetrable for anyone that is not a tech geek.  I think we can be sure that OSX is going to be around a while yet - while it may be Unix under the hood, the user experience is so much better.

You need pictures. (lots of pictures)

E.G. The paragraph below tells you what the Force Pixel Alignment does but not where the option can be found in the interface.  A beginner to Affinity Designer needs that sort of information.

Force pixel alignment – this option is selected by default and it allows you to create,
move or modify the objects that snap to whole pixels. Otherwise, your artwork can
    occupy parts of pixels.

    Hello Everyone,

In the last couple of weeks I shared in the Forum different topics related to video tutorials I upload to my YouTube channel. To make it more practical, I'm gonna share them and new ones in just this topic. Feel free to scroll down and find all the videos I already uploaded.
If you want to know a bit more about me and what to expect, then keep reading.

Photography (and design) is part of my life for more than twenty years. I began working in the advertising industry in the 90's and from there I covered many different areas from the creative process to production. Today I mainly do portrait photography, fine art, special assignments and some design projects.

In the last years and as a certified trainer, I began to share what I've learned and continue to learn in workshops. I mainly cover Portrait Photography, Black & White, Digital Workflow and Retouching. For the love of sharing my passion about photography, I decided to start making video tutorials and this is the reason I end up here. The amazing software the Affinity Team made gave me the enthusiasm we normally have when we get a new toy. For me it's been a fantastic experience and discovery of new ways of doing the same things in a different, and many times better, way. And this experience is what I want to share with you.

This is also the reason I'm going to cover more the Affinity apps in a photography scenario. But you can expect more, a lot more... I'll also be covering photographic tips and techniques and other software that I find relevant to my/our work. This is the case of Capture One Pro that will have also a special feature. Apart from this I'm also preparing some "extras" but that's for another time

    What to keep in mind:
Every time I make a tutorial where I create a special resource, like a macro, a brush, a style, etc. I'll share it for free. You just need to follow the video tutorial or blog post to see the download links.

Some tutorials also have a related post in my blog with more details. You can check it here: (available in Portuguese and English): http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/

The tutorials are made in Portuguese but they have English subtitles. Nevertheless I make them in a very easy to follow pace. For that reason they are suitable for both beginners and advanced users.

The list I have for upcoming tutorials is long but if you have a specific topic you would like to be covered just let me know. You never know if your request is my next tutorial. This was the case of the Glow Effect video.

I'm going to share them chronological so the new ones will be in the end of this topic.

Finally my idea is to share tutorials on a regular basis so feel free to subscribe to my YouTube channel to be the first one to know about it: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxdrAaW4Zr9lYktQmt5O4VA

You can also subscribe to my Blog where you can find other topics: http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/

Sorry if I made this introduction to long, but it was important for me to share this.
I hope you'll find each tutorial a useful resource and also a source of inspiration.

Okay, these are some of my first vectors, so please, be gentle with the criticisms. :P

Besides making random shapes in Inkscape a couple years back, I've never dedicated much time to learning a vector program. It was always something I had a vague interest in, since I do have previous experience with Photoshop, and some 3D work, which makes for a solid foundation for it, but I've never taken that extra step.

Well, after buying Affinity Photo in December and liking it quite a bit, I figured I'd go ahead and try out the Designer trial. 10 days, some tutorials, and a bit of goofing around later, I bought it too.

So anyway, here's what I've done. Since I'm still shaky on my feet, I figured I'd try aping something simple before going whole hog. Thought Zelda 3 looked kinda cool back in the day. it's style isn't too complex, and it might vector well, so I gave it a try.

This is about 4 days worth of work right here.

First, I did the tree. I threw the original sprite in there for comparison.

Next up, I did the pot free hand in a similar style.

Then, I tried out the little witch's hut. I've actually managed to bring Designer to a crawl on this one. Gaussian blurs on top of gaussian blurs on top of drop and inner shadows on top of a bunch of other stuff...yeah, I'm probably not being too efficient here. It's still a WIP, but it's far enough along to show it off.

Plus I went to town detailing that little cow skull, which is probably one of the reasons why the program is being bogged down.

So there you have it. My first tutorial free foray into the world of vector art.

I want to say that beyond vector graphics for logos or prototypes for web pages, I could never draw more than a lopsided stick figure. Honestly, didn't even occur to me to try to draw anything more because I thought the results would be horrible based on past experiences.

Well, I bought AD last week, practiced shapes and logos and found a few texture packs on these forums which I purchased and love. Then I somehow managed to make this. What I've drawn doesn't even compare to the talent I see around here, but it's a big step for me as an artist/designer.

I just want you guys to know, I don't draw things. I design, but I don't draw. Designer was the conduit that let me see that I can. Thanks for that.

I haven't seen this before, so I figured I would share. This is a simple cartoon like effect. This is similar to the pseudo cell shading tutorial by Affinity, but that's because they used the edge detect tool too. So for what it's worth here we go.
First copy your background layer, CMD-J
Go to Filter, Detect, Detect Edges. Set the blend mode to subtract.
Add the adjustment layer, posterize. Adjust the levels for taste. My example uses 4.
That's it. Now you have a basic cartoon stylized picture. You can use all sorts of additional methods from here. But this seems a good starting point. Hope you find something useful in this. Cheers.
