  1. Great tips R C-R, now I know which traps not to fall into. Thanks also to MikekPhoto and gdenby. Michael
  2. An update to my previous post re: shipping damage to the ADW. I spoke to Amazon and they take using the right packaging for the right item very seriously. This arrived in an official; Amazon box, but had no padding, so every hit/drop it took went through the thin cardboard directly into the cover, making it look like a second hand book by the time it arricved in my hands. A few pictures taken with my mobile phone are attached.https://www.dropbox.com/sh/h9loo0liyk7n3eb/AADc9U6p_SOPD0XBX7LCbxZja?dl=0 Still, I love the contents even though it looks a bit war weary. What condition did your ADW from Amazon.com arrve looking like? Michael Michael
  3. Mike you have been so helpful. You make a very strong argument for 27". I was going to go smaller screen but go to i7, but your approach seems better. You have helped a lot. Michael
  4. Since really exploring Affinity products, I decided it's time I put my MacBook Pro aside and get something that AD and APh can really take advantage of the core features of the latest hardware. What would be your model choice, screen size, most helpful peripherals/accessories? Of course budget has to come into it, but I am more interested in the right equipment to get work out without being extravagant and wasteful. Thanks for your replies. Michael
  5. Hi Chuck, and welcome to Affinity forum. I am just a new user of Designer, Get ecstatic, assets management is already included. Watch this Sorry my add link icon is not working. Michael
  6. Michael The advertising does say: "Bonus pack of macros included for free Including various styles and effects utilising the powerful new macro feature." Maybe they send it once you buy the final release. I am still working with the Beta, but will buy in a few days. Michael
  7. So if I have 2 PCs, one is my desktop in the office, which I use for development and is always online. I have a notebook which I travel with. Obviously I am not working on desktop and laptop with Photo simultaneously, but I can see a situation where I leave the office in a rush and leave Photo running on the desktop. My questions: Am I permitted to install Photo on both computers using the same key? Would the first key being in use preclude the notebook from opening Photo if it was also online. Thanks Michael
  8. My self-indulgent Christmas gift just arrived early. :) The ADW is a gorgeous publication, jam-packed with ideas and well organized information. My wife picked it up and could hardly believe all those glossy pages and hard backing weigh so much. The workbook is a credit to you all--so much hard work and thought went into this and it shows on every page. Just for the record: I was forced to order mine from Amazon USA, after Serif accepted the order but it got kicked out of the system once they saw I don't live in France, but part of France in the French West Indies. They cheerfully refunded. So Amazon sent the ADW to Miami, Florida, and instead of ocean freight, I had it couriered to the airport and it reached the island the following day. There was no chance of it reaching me until mid-January otherwise :( As a few commented on shipping damage. :( This publication should be packed in more than a close fitting cardboard box. I expect more from Amazon, but after couriers get their hands on them, hurling them like frisbees crashing into container walls, not many items can survive that treatment. So if you got Amazon to test slightly larger boxes with some bubble wrap to protect inside, that should foil most wayward package loaders. The corners of the spine were damaged and it has a dent on the front--not really bad, but if I was buying it in a book store, I would expect a discount. You may want to look into this, as it is a beautiful publication and seeing dents in the cover detracts from the beauty of your product. I will do a review of the contents as I work through it. Suffice to say, a quick scan reveals a very comprehensive project-based book, which teaches all the basics and is quite a worthy addition to my reference shelf. What are your thoughts... Michael
  9. Thank you Patrick. I agree it is excellent value. Last night I joined CommunityPlus and a member mentioned a final bug fix release of X9 in the new year. Can you confirm? Michael
  10. IMHO the ADW will probably outlast the Ikea coffee table. As for delivery, I'm still patiently  waiting, and I'm not in the centre of the universe. Michael
  11. Mike, thanks for a complete answer. The printer reported my images as RGB on the preflight and I figured placing them on a CMYK document would convert them. So then just save it as a .afphoto project as 300 dpi CMYK/8 and placing it Designer is a good workflow? Michael
  12. Would you say PagePlus X9 is still a viable product for doing some inhouse DTP, even though it is not being developed? (legacy range) http://www.serif.com/PagePlus/ Michael
  13. Will an RGB image be converted automatically when it is placed on a CMYK workspace document? Michael
  14. Hi Mike, the above tutorial you did for Alisa has filled in some of the gaps that I was asking regarding print setup/export options for press. Just got my first first job using AD and it came out perfectly, so my concerns about CMYK TIFF output were allayed. So thank you, and I will keep watching this topic. Michael
  15. Thank you bleduc, I will add it to the workflow, as it makes so much sense. I only deal with printers who use CMYK process.
  16. I'm in the same situation. It will finishing being $100US, so I looking at this is a more of an investment in professional development. From all reports, the book is worth it,
  17. You are so right avenson, So glad I ordered through Amazon.com. Their packaging is always sturdy, even if its a little overdone on non-fragile items, so I expect this in perfect condition. Michael
  18. Hello Yannik, I just discovered AD last week and ordered it instantly. For my needs it's running rings around the big names already. Thank you for such a wonderful resource, but I only installed AD 1.5.4. Being the post is 21 months old, would your pack still be compatible and have resources that are not still included? It is wonderful to be able to give back to your profession, that's why I teach voluntarily. Michael
  19. Thank you graphicbreeze, they will suit of my designs.
  20. Hi cclinner, It sounds like you may have to contact affinityorders@serif.com to get your details resent. Here is the link to the promotion https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/free-ui-kit/ Hope you get through. Michael
  21. Hello, does the ADW have a discussion/tutorial on Document Setup for export to press and the various options? Michael
  22. It sure is beautiful, and to think I bought it sight unseen! Thx for the link Alfred.
  23. Hi chepo1956, Try getting it shipped to Miami and pay a freight forwarder to San Juan. I can tell you my freight forwarder if it helps. PR is a free associated territory of US, so I am surprised. Wish you well. PS: I just rerouted mine to overnight air, as I can't wait.
  24. Sorry, I got the Mac and had no issues getting the link as MEB said previously. Over to wiser heads using Windows. Michael
