Appogee got a reaction from DarkerBlack in Patch Notes... somewhere?
Affinity Photo just prompted me to update to version 1.6.1.   Which I did.

But where can I find the patch notes for the new version?

Not here in the support forum.
No link in the 'About' screen of the application.
No apparent link on the Affinity website.
Nothing in the application's Help file.
Nothing in the application's Welcome screen.

    Congrats, I'm stumped.

Appogee got a reaction from Hofnaar in "Paste as New Floating Selection" Function
In Paintshop Pro, I (1) use the marquee tool to select the area of an image I want to copy.  (2) Ctrl-C to copy an area, then (3) Ctrl-E to create a floating selection, which will move with my mouse to wherever I want to place it.  (4) Click to place it.

This is very quick and easy, and I'd love to see it in Affinity Photo.

(In Affinity, you need to (1) convert the Image layer to a Raster layer.  (2) Use the marquee tool to select the area of the image you want to copy.  (3) Hit Ctrl-C.   (4) Hit Ctrl-V to place a static copy of the selected pixels over the original.   (5) Change to the Move tool.  (6) Click and drag andcopy of the selection to the place you want it.   (7) Merge down the new layer that was created along the way.)

Anyway, just a suggestion from a new user trialing Affinity Photo.

Appogee reacted to Alfred in How can I paste an image while preserving its transparency?
Depending on your browser, and perhaps also your operating system, you may find that a PNG image copied from a web page has a black background instead of a transparent one. You can get around that problem by saving image 2 and then placing the saved image in your document, but you shouldn't need to do anything special with image 1.

Agreed (although there are ways around that, such as tweaking the blend options) but it would be fine for image 1.

Since JPEG does not support transparency, it would not be a good choice for image 2.

If you're pasting the images, you must be copying them from somewhere. It might be the copying rather than the pasting which is the source of the problem.

You will probably get better results if you can save the images in a standard format such as JPEG, PNG or TIFF and then place the saved images in your document.

Appogee reacted to MEB in Suggestion from a Potential New Customer - Applying Effects to Selections
    Hi Appogee,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
The Layers Effects (which you can also access from the FX icon on the bottom of the Layers panel) can only be applied to layers, that is, nodes in the Layers hierarchy (being them a single vector object, a layer, a group etc). When you apply them, an FX icon is added to that layer in the Layers panel. You can then edit/change the Layer Effects properties at any time clicking on this icon (they are non-destructive). Since they are tied to layers they can't be applied directly to selections within those layers. You can however cut the selection out, paste it in a new layer and apply the FX to that layer.

Instead of steps 3 and 4 you can press Ctrl+J to duplicate the selected region, and instead of steps 5 and 6 you can Ctrl-drag, but it's still more than three steps!
