  1. Yes, that's why it doesn't do what you wanted. You need to ungroup the group, choose the Node Tool and break both curves in strategic places (using the 'Break Curve' button in the Action section of the Context toolbar) and then 'Join Curves' (also  in the Action section of the Context toolbar) to create three separate shapes that you can fill. You're going to require two copies of the small separator lines, so after you've isolated them with 'Break Curve' actions I suggest that you copy them so that they're available for pasting back in later on.

Oh, I see. Thank you so much for the assistance! I didn't realize that breaking and joining curves can be so useful for things like this. :D

  2. Recently, I was testing something out and I created a shape. I tried to separate this shape into 3 parts. First, I completely cut part of the shape out. Then, to separate the rest of the shape into 3 parts, I tried using the pen tool to create two lines where I would like the shape to intersect. I did this to try to separate the shape into 3 parts which I would color differently. But, when I use fill on the shape, it fills the whole shape and not each individual part. I think this is because the two curves I created from the pen tool aren't combined. But, I am not sure how I would be able to separate this shape into three parts so that I can change each part into a different color. I was watching a tutorial of someone doing something similar on illustrator and their live fill tool colored this area in. As I know that Affinity Designer doesn't have a live fill tool, is there any way I can achieve this? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!  :)

By, the way, I attached my file to the end of this so that you can understand what I am doing

  3. Hello mylittlestudio,

    Welcome to Affinity Forums.

You can use Edit -> Copy (cmd+C) and Edit -> Paste Style (or shift+cmd+V) to copy styles between objects.

I was wondering about this too and this instruction helped, thanks :D . But I am still a bit confused by something. I wrote two different texts (each text was in its own layer). For the first one, I made certain adjustments to it by adding an outer shadow and an outline. I tried to copy these exact adjustments to the other text by using the method that you stated and pressing cmd+C and shift+cmd+V. But, I did not get the same amounts of outer shadow and outline (as I did on the original layer). My new text had an outline and an outer shadow but the slider was adjusted differently. I am not sure what I did wrong in trying to copy the layer style/FX and I would appreciate some feedback. (I also tried copying the styles by using Edit -> Paste FX which didn't work either).

    Thank you so much :)

  4. Hi Marcusss,

    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Affinity Designer has two brush engines: one is vector based (relies on vectors paths for the brush strokes which can then be edited if needed) and is used in Draw Persona. The other is a raster based engine and is used in Pixel Persona and in Affinity Photo (our RAW converter/developer and photo editing app). This one doesn't rely on any vector paths. It's a more conventional raster painting engine.

Each engine and their respective brushes settings/attributes is different and so the brushes only work with the engine they were created for.

Oh, I see. Thank you for helping! I am still a bit new to this software :)

  5. Hi HXY,

    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

I believe you're using Affinity Designer. If that's the case, click on the second icon on the top left of the interface right below the traffic lights to change to Pixel Persona, then go to the Brushes tab on the right and click the dropdown. The imported brushes should appear listed on the bottom.

Thanks, I've just had the same problem and this solved it for me :D. This seems really interesting to me, do you know why certain brushes only work in certain personas?
