Yes i realise that now. After resolving my problem I just asked what the point of those presets was if they didn't hold there ratios.

See attached. In a4crop1 I have just opened the A4 crop setting. It is too large for the photo. If I want an A4 ratio how do I put the mask inside the photo? If I hold a corner to move it the ratio is not constrained (see A4crop2) If I put the cursor inside the crop box it just moves the whole crop but doesn't resize it. It remains too big

I'm attaching a couple of screen grabs which perhaps will help explain it. The first shows the image for cropping and I clicked on the A4 preset. You will see that the crop area is way larger than the image. I then grab a corner to resize it and as you can see I can change the shape to a square. I was going to attach screen grabs but cant see how. Is there no way to attach images to these posts?

Thats the point I do want it to be 6 x 4 but if you try to change its location within the image the ratios are not constrained

Thought it was just me being thick. I've just posted another thread on this subject https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/32049-cropping-in-affinity-photo/ then found this one. I cant believe that its not possible to set a specific ratio and fix it.

I am trying to crop to a specific dimension - say 6 x 4 - When I select that in the presets in the mode menu it opens a crop box with that ratio but as soon as I try to resize it to cover the area I require it becomes free moving and the width and height no longer keep their ratio. How do I prevent this happening? I've just tried all the presets and the ones with the ratio 1:1 5:7 8:10 work OK but those marked - " - pixels - A4 dont constrain the ratio.

After the update to 1.5 on AP it was great to find all the NIK filters were now working but I have now found a problem! If I crop the image it still opens the full image in NIK. If I flatten the image before opening NIK then its OK but I really want to leave the layers available. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way around?

Have now found the update. Great. Nik plug ins now all working. Brilliant. Thank you.

In the Live Filter layers there are the 3 methods of sharpening, clarity, unsharp and high pass. How do you choose which to use or do you try all three to assess the effects?

Yes that works although it seems simpler to/for me to do it the other way round ie add the outline and then resize. Thanks everyone for your quick and knowledgeable support

I've followed 2 videos on this subject and created a border by the method shown but the problem appears to be that: a) I cannot resize the border. I can change the crop of the photograph to change the amount of border showing but I dont want to alter the edited photograph or cover any of it. b) I cannot find a way to add a second colour border. I like to - for example- have a thin black line around the image and then a wider grey border. I have seen a previous query raising this and it seemed from the answers there that it wasn't possible although it is a simple operation in photoshop. Hope someone can help. Thanks

Hi, I am using your trial version 1.4.3 and will be buying it (I've cancelled my subscription to Photoshop!) but I have just found a problem with my Nik plug ins. I've loaded them Ok and the ones I use most - color effex and silver effex are fine but when I try to load Define or viveza I get the message shown on the attached screen grab. I have just started trying out this app and am really enjoying it but have come across a couple of points that I would like to know have been resolved in the latest release. My trial is version 1.4.3 1) If I am working on a photo and save it in .afphoto format to come back to later it doesn't appear in the media browser. Has this now been sorted? I see there are some queries on this elsewhere. 2) I've tried to open two photos side by side by going into Window>Seperated mode but that just puts all the various menus etc all over the page. I saw a similar query and have followed the advice of closing down then reopening holding down the ctrl key and following instructions but it has made no difference. 3) Does the latest version allow for focus stacking and HDR imaging?
