I can also report that disabling iCloud Drive in settings seems to be working for the moment. I haven't had any issues open files.

The key issue to this problem is when you update Mac iOS. For some reason certain updates trigger this issue. If a file opens after an update it is highly doubtful you will be able to reproduce this issue. For example I used a file a week ago. I updated the Mac for a small update and when I tried to open the same file it refused to open.

So for your testing purposes on your end I’d suggest making a blank file with numerous images and icons (all pulled from iCloud folders). Save the file in iCloud and then update your Mac. It mean using an older version, not necessarily reverting back to major release but rather previous small updates.

I'm willing to help but I need direction on how to do this or what you need. I’ll try and make a video explaining my folder overview.

So this bug is back and boy is this SUPER annoying. I can't open any old files. I can't even open them in Publisher now so the above solution I can't even test. Come on Affinity. @Nopemann has given you a solid lead as to the origins of this issue. Currently this whole software suite is unusable and it's getting to the point I can't use it for client work for fear of losing progress. It's super frustrating as I have a very tight client deadline and I can't open the file.

    Hi,
Could I please request that a hex value box be added to the swatches panel like you have done with the colour wheel. Currently if I want to grab the hex value of a swatch (which is quite often) I have to select the swatch > go to the colour menu (which defaults to the edit view - which is annoying) > Then I have to select colour wheel from top right menu.
It is a very verbose way to grab hex value. Can we just add it to the swatches panel.
    Thank you.

That will be amazing to have. Sometimes when you have similar colors it becomes a little bit tricky to know who is the one you need without the Hex value.

@Chris B Ok I set up a test user and the files all opened instantly. However, logging back into my normal account I opened the files and they all opened as well (albeit quite a bit slower). I tested this a few days ago and the files were definitely not opening. I should mentioned I did just update my Mac today with the latest update (a small patch I believe). So either the update to the Mac has triggered something or logging in and out to a new user triggered something. On the new user account I obviously had to download Affinity and it asked me to confirm registration. I doubt that would have been a thing.
I will keep an eye on this and see if a new update breaks that files. But this is the FIRST time in months I have been able to open a file after a Mac update.

@Chris B This is true regarding the windows issue but I've have also linked 3 others and that was only after a very quick search. It is obvious this is a big issue affecting other people. In the mean time I will set up a new user account. Is this the long term solution? I have to use Affinity Designer on a guest user account going forward. I appreciate bugs are not easy to diagnose. But it's clear I'm not an isolated individual. This is also a product breaking bug, I literally can't use Designer.
NOTE this bug is not affecting the Photo or Publisher.

    Hi,
In the export persona there is a feature to increase the size of the file/slice being exported. The little plus button gives you the option to x2, x3, x4 the slice. However I am finding that I rarely want to export to bigger size but rather export to smaller. For example I'll be working on a full size raster image, but I would then want to export that at 4-5 different sizes - but all smaller from the original full size version. I can not see how to do this in the export persona area. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks in advance.

@Affinity Designer I still can’t believe this is a problem and has not be fixed, even in version 2. I must admit I’m getting pretty tired of using affinity designer because of this issue alone. Regardless of whether I’m designing a logo, website designs, if I introduce text at any point it introduces fractured pixels.

So no matter how many items I export there is always an extra 1px edge or size.

I designed a website. I then came to export all the logos, assets, images (probably 50-60 items). Every single one I had to manually reposition so it was on a solid pixel axis AND I had to resize the item itself so it was solid pixels.

It really is totally stupid this issue exists.  How does the affinity team use this product.

@fde101Thanks for the response. As I stated in my previous video (which has been deleted now) the problem is when you introduce text/fonts. I have the settings where if I am just working with shapes etc by and large the whole pixel environment stays. As you as you add text and then scale, fractured pixels are introduced. If you are doing UI work you will always be working with text.
Can you test your settings. Make a simple square. Put text inside > group the text and square. Then enlarge or scale the square up. I bet you you get fractured pixels. Can you let me know. Thanks.

I still can't believe this issue hasn't been fixed. It is unfortunate as I was using Affinity designer for all my client working and loving it. Now I'm moving more and more over to Figma. Such a shame. I'm still hoping but soon Affinity may not even be on my machine anymore. Gutted.

    Hi,
I have nearly 300 fonts on my Mac, which I would like to use on my iPad versions of the software (photo and affinity). Does anyone know how I can import all these fonts from Mac to iPad? That would be great help. Thanks.

Ps I have tried using an app called all fonts from iPad. But I was not able to get it to work. Also to note my fonts are all contained within the font book folder as the default on the Mac.

@v_kyr Thank you for your solution - I had no idea you could actually phyiscally add the values there (I thought the list was the predefined values). What a great revelation. Thank you so much.
@>|< This solution was also brilliant. It turned out I did indeed have 144dpi selected and when I changed document to 72dpi it fixed the issue. THANK YOU.
@walt.farrell Thank you as well for your help. I was on mac / affinity designer. The 1x, 2x, 3x is designed with the idea that you create an original image and then for the next x value it doubles the size of original image. In HTML you have the ability to do that same - add an x value to original image. In short it basically means if a device that has 3 or 4 times more pixels than a standard display you can give them a 3x or 4x image and it will display the same phyiscal dimensions, without being pixelated. So typical retina screen would be 2x. But some phones are 3x and even 4x. Forgive me if you already knew this info.
Thank you everyone your help. Really appreciate it. This has been bugging me for months.

Hey I want to flag this bug/issue again since it is still not being address or fixed and is creating a workflow in affinity that I can no longer continue to use. Please see video below of the example of how force pixel alignment does not work.
It is becoming a serious headache, namly the export persona constantly exporting images with a 1px gap. I have since, through shear perservance learned the work flow to get around this problem. Forced pixel alignment should do what it says and the whole document works precisely on whole pixels regardless of scale, snapping or repositioning. Perhaps affinity should even add this as a clear option when creating a document in the first place. Add a tick box option next to the 'document units' dropdown menu and call it 'work with whole pixels'. Then have the additonal forced pixel button in the toolbar.
My problem I face now is when a scale an object, let's say a simple piece of text. It does not scale to whole pixels. It introduces the fractured pixels, even though the whole documnent is working in forced pixel alignment. Due to this I have to constantly monitor and be aware of resizing everything to make sure it is working in full pixels. Is there a way when I scale an object, ie grabbing the blue handle points and increasing or decreasing its size, while maintaining full pixels? This would help massively on my end in solving how affinity works.
Like others though this is really beginning to dent my ability to use Designer going forward. It is literally adding hours to my work flow.

davidlower8 reacted to AlanPickup in How to create swirls and swooshes in affinity designer
I asked this same question almost two years ago, albeit with Inkscape not Adobe. This can be done but it is not as easy as with out the spiral tool in the other programs as you can set the thickness variation either as triangle in or triangle out, or even the middle.
For widened the stroke the secret is to convert  the  line to shape so the nodes are on the outside of the line / object and you can then easily get the leaf effect. my posting is below and you can see the mods answers. If I want to create the swirls I go to inkscape and then save them as a svg and bring them in to designer. We may one day get a similar  tool in Affinity

davidlower8 got a reaction from Jowday in [AD] Shape Builder Tool
I would like to add to this debate and also request this feature. OR if not this feature then at least have the boolean tools work properly. For me, there are 4 glaringly bad issues with the current Affinity Designer set up which I will try to explain.
    1) When cutting different shapes from each other - if the shapes are quite complex, Affinity adds literally hundreds of nodes to the shape. It even does it if the shape is relatively simple. See screenshots.
    2) When trying to select these completely pointless nodes I am given a square shape selector to highlight and select. It makes it extremely fiddly if I want to delete those nodes in a confined space where I don't want to delete other nodes from other shapes.
    3) With these hundreds of nodes it makes any shape really heavy in processing power. It slows down the app significantly and in my case repeatedly crashed. Worse, however, is when you want to continue to cut out shapes from each other if one of those shapes has lots of nodes it simply refuses to work. Instead of the shapes cutting away or even adding together they both simply disappear. Affinity just can't handle it. Again in my case, it was so bad I had to manually redraw complex shapes from scratch or start over. Or on the shape with tons of nodes I had to manually delete them until Affinity was able to process the boolean command again.
    4) When using circles and the golden ration to design (as an example) the divide boolean is pretty much the only tool you can use. However, what happens is it adds hundreds of tiny spec layers that in many cases are so small they offer absolutely no relevance. The other day I was making a logo using about 10 inter lapping circles. I selected them all to divide in the hope I could simply manually add the shapes I wanted with the add boolean. However, I ended up with over 400 layers. Good luck trying to select which shape/layer goes together and good luck trying to manually select the shapes with a square (fixed) selector.
These are my thoughts. Maybe the shape builder tool is not necessarily needed. Personally, I think it would improve Affinity and the workflow significantly. However, I am a big advocate for zero bloating of the tool. BUT the current boolean tools in my mind do not work, especially when getting into complex shapes and/or patterns. Which ultimately is what Affinity Designer should be handling.
I love Affinity and I appreciate the work you are doing.

Hey @MEB thanks for the input and to be honest I am already aware of these corrections and work flows. The fact I have to go into all the artboards and double check they are whole pixel values AND all the other layers, just highlights (for me) this is broken. Second this is not a solid or good working solution. As the video clearly highlighted at the beginning of this thread. It does not matter the positioning of the artboard, meaning the artboard could be perfect. As soon as I add text - broken pixels are introduced. Export persona will then export gaps. That is a fact.  So in that previous example those images I exported were fractured pixels and so I had to re-arrange them to solid - this had nothing to do with the artboard.
When I am in the flow of designing I am copying, duplicating, resizing, repositioning - repeatidly. Having to constantly watch layers for fractured pixels is completely non-sensical. When I am done I want to be able to export slices. Since I am nearly always working with text to some level, ALL my slices will come out with extra white space. Even the snapping tool will align to fractured pixels introducing further fractured pixels to an otherwise solid pixel layer.
Your answer, for me, just clearly shows this work flow is broken. It is like yeast. As soon as a fractured pixel is introduced it gets into everything. I don't want to have to monitor for fractured pixels, it is a ridiculous workflow.
Forgive me if I am being tardy. I am just so frustrated and disappointed. I do NOT want to leave this product but I cannot keep checking layers and artboards for x-axis, y-axis, width and height values - making sure they are all solid pixels. Completely ridiculous.
