  1. Could I also jump into this thread because I am having a similar issue - perhaps not as dramatic, but definitely a problem none the less. It does not have any reference to the HSL part. But it does to the export persona exporting too big an image. When I create a slice using the 'create slice' button. The default slice outline box (blue frame) it makes of the vector graphic is a pixel too big on both the top and bottom. Since the vector graphic is not filling the whole blue slice frame - it is saved with, effectively a white border on one side, which is clearly visable even though it is a pixel in width. For example I'll have an image I have specifically cropped to 700x400px. I then create a slice and the blue slice frame shows a box of 701x401px. I am finding I have to constantly check the frame is the correct dimensions and that it doesn't export with empty space. Any thoughts? Perhaps I am doing something wrong! I have been using affinity designer consistently for a number of years now - but definitely noticed this problem more recently. Thanks.
  2. Hi, In the export persona there is a feature to increase the size of the file/slice being exported. The little plus button gives you the option to x2, x3, x4 the slice. However I am finding that I rarely want to export to bigger size but rather export to smaller. For example I'll be working on a full size raster image, but I would then want to export that at 4-5 different sizes - but all smaller from the original full size version. I can not see how to do this in the export persona area. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks in advance.
  3. Thanks for that nice explination. However it is my understanding that traditional printing - like for newspapers and similar - for best results you need to have CMYK 100k black. Like for our natonal newspapers, I would be very suprised if the blacks in those for the body content is a mix of different CMYK values. For anything else like brochures, business cards and booklets I agree a mix of CMYK will give better results for the black. Am I wrong in this thinking? At least this is what I have been taught.
  4. Ok so I figured it out due to mostly my own inexperience and stupidity. The problem I was having is RGB makes perfect black through blending multiple colours together. When I changed document to CMYK - obviously the CMYK tried to match to the nearest colour. As a result it also gave a black based on multiple colours. Normally this is fine but this particular project is for print (namely newspaper). As a result having a black made from multiple colours is poor practice for printing with newspapers beacuse you are involving 4 different colour plates to achieve the black. So I manually changed the black to pure 100 k value and that way the printing will use only the one black plate - therefore a much better printing output. Once again thank you for all the tips and help. very enlightening.
  5. Hi guys. THANK YOU for all the feedback. So knowing PNG can't convert to CMYK is useful. I am still having a problem however. When converting the document from RGB to CMYK and then exporting a CMYK jpeg file - I open that jpeg file and the blacks are still showing a blend rather than a 100% k value. So this is not giving a true black for printing. How do I fix or export it correctly so that the true blacks are exporting with 100% K value for CMYK? How do I also know this is happening when exporting as an EPS and PDF file? Thanks for the help.
  6. Hi, I am trying to get a question that has been discussed a lot, but the answer still eludes me personally. I am creating a logo pack for a client. I have started the document in RGB - but then converted to CMYK before uploading PNG, jpeg files. When opening the files they are still appearing in RGB. So even though I am converting the whole document via 'document setup' from RGB to CMYK - it still won't upload to CMYK for PNG or jpegs. I read in one comment this is default to affinity that they won't unpload PNG or jpeg in CMYK format. Is this really the case? How can I work around that? Or is it really that simple, for print ready work you just provide the client with a PDF and/of EPS file? Thanks for the time.
  7. Thanks for all your input here. I have seen these solutions all before. But the problem I have been having is... say I start an artboard document with a custom size or a business card for example. But at a later point and I want to create some letterheads on A4. There is no current solution to add an A4 size with the artboard tool or menu. Additional steps have to be taken either with transform or creating a whole new document and copying/pasting. I was, therefore, wondering if paper sizes could be added to the presents. As @R C-R has mentioned assets definitely seems to be the most logical and practical solution to solving this and maybe he is right 'it perhaps isn't really needed'. But I would certainly like it
  8. @kaffeeundsalz & @R C-R. Thanks for your responses but it isn't really the point... or indeed the place to be negative to other participants. He was only trying to help - he wasn't being offensive or rude. If you really felt the video was that bad then perhaps he would appreciate some constructive criticism on his youtube channel or in the video comments. But please let's be respectful of others, especially on this forum because we are all here due to owning this great piece of software. I don't want to come here looking for an answer and be greeted with negative rubbish from other users. Youtube does more than plenty of that. The 'using assets' for this particular problem is probably the most suitable solution. @kaffeeeundsalz thank you for your further clarification and intention to help, I appreciate it.
  9. @firstdefence you don’t need to remove the video - it was very helpful and relevant to the thread. Thank you. Ignore the previous ‘embarrassing’ message from @kaffeeundsalz.
  10. Ok I posted he request here: thanks everyone for your help
  11. Hi, I was wondering if I could request a very simple improvement to artboard presets and setup. Basically when you have multiple art boards open within ONE document and then you use the artboard tool to create yet another artboard. The presets this tool gives you is quite limited and it only has devices to choose from. Nexus, iPhone for example. I use artboards a lot for stationary like a4 letters or business cards. Could you include some basic presets for paper sizes and other similar objects. This would be really handy instead of having to use the transform tool and remember the various paper sizes. Great product - absolutely love it. So grateful. Thank you.
  12. Yes I thought of both solutions. Thanks guys. It might be worth asking for this feature and it seems like a simple one to implement but also a useful feature. I use artboards for everything now. Such a brilliant piece of software.
  13. I agree this is a solution - but doesn't it or wouldn't it make sense to have a preset for A4 and basic paper layouts rather than a nexus preset? It is a bit clunky to have to manually transform it each time. Not complaining, just seems odd considering how smooth they have made the UI.
  14. Thanks for the response. Yes I agree. But the question I am trying to understand. Imagine you have 5 different artboards open in one document - showing all your work. Then you want to add a new artboard to the same document (6th artboard) and you want it A4 size. How do you do it? The artboard tool only gives you a few presets (which are mobile devices or iPad devices).
  15. Hi Affinity. Is there an option to create a custom artboard within an already existing artboard document? For example - I have already set up multiple artboards (for a business card). Now, however, I want to make an A4 brochure. I would like to be able to set up a new artboard which is A4 in size, but I would like this artboard to be placed in the same area as my business card. I know I can create pre-existing document sizes and the presets under the artboard tool, but the presets do not have what I am looking for (A4 paper size). I also know I can use the transform tool, but I don't know the measurements for an A4 brochure (obviously I can go on the web and find out, but it is nice to have the shortcut). Whenever I create a new artboard it sets it up as a new independent artboard in a separate document. However, in this video and in your help section, I can not see anywhere to make a new artboard. In short, I would like to lay out all my stationary artboards very much like you have in another video titled "Artboards: Exporting and Printing". I hope this makes sense!! Thanks for the great service and product
  16. This solution is dependant upon having both affinity photo and designer. Import or drag/drop image in AP (affinity photo). Click on > filters > colours > erase white paper. Then head up to file > edit in designer. This way it instantly removes all white without messing around with layers, selection tools, pixel persona or whatever. Then it opens directly into designer without having to save or export. BRILLIANT solution and takes seconds.
