I understand that people need access to old files but how often do you need to edit them anyway?
I prefer to sacrifice backward compatibility for a better new program (so they can focus resources on making this new program better) and in that one time in a lifetime that I will need to open that old file, I will reinstall the program just for it. I mean you don't have subscription to adobe here, you can keep using the program for ever
Also I have found it faster to redo something than to try to find ways to make it work in my current workflow and programs. Sure this is not always the case, but...

The macro recording in it's current state doesn't support opening/saving file operations and several other things, thus you have to see if you can combine certain macro recordable features with batch processing here. When batch processing files you can apply recorded macros to be excuted together during the processing of batch tasks.
"Δοκίμασε αν μπορείς να λειτουργιες τα macro από το batch processing".

Thought I'd give you a glimpse of some of the features that will be coming in 1.7.

Please note - this thread is only for discussing the features detailed here.  Postings related to other feature requests should be posted on their own thread (else they will get deleted from this thread).

We have spent considerable time overhauling the internals of some of our main tools.  It's been a labour of love, but it's going to open up greater possibilities for our core tool set.

    The core tools are:
    - Move tool
    - Pen tool
    - Node tool
    - Shape creation tools
    - Text tools
    - Fill and Transparency tools
    - Place Image tool
    - Vector Crop tool

So, what improvements can be expected?

    - Advanced grid editing on spread (move the grid origin and edit it's axis with a handy new widget, with full snapping of course)
    - Guides can be created and moved in all the core tools, plus a toggle to turn guide editing off
    - Move the artboard ruler origin (with editing toggle)
    - Create objects and shapes into an arbitrary grid
    - Rotate and flip objects in grid planes (great for people working in isometric), plus an option to rotate shapes in plane using the Move tool
    - The Move tool will now allow you to cycle though selection boxes, including regular boxes and grid plane aligned boxes
    - Snapping performance improvements

well for me designer and photo had from the start what I could call essentials, everything I requested afterwards (some of which are already implemented) it was mostly for my easy of use.
It is not like I couldn't get the job done, it was just that I could do it easier with some tweaks here and there (like the search box like fnt menu).
So I believe that when publisher will be out, it will have enough to get the job done and from there on it will be mostly additions to make the job easier.

Instead of master pages you can create a page-sized symbol (transparent rectangle) and place things there. It won't update your page numbers but might at least be a work-around for graphic elements.

IMPORTANT: Please don't use it for the shortcuts I mention in that tut for AP or AD...I mean, there were some improvements in the apps, so that for those functions is not needed any more, those workarounds. Obviously you still can use it for any other shortcut or mouse gesture which you can't set with the current apps.

X-Mouse button control can help you in setting middle click (or any other mouse thing, or key, or whatever) for panning instead of whatever the key or button does that in every single application, and you can customize a different behavior for each program. I have it permanently now (around 5 apps customized), and WAY more confortable now in my day by day work. It uses no significant resources, at all. Indeed, in my arcane machine -in my sig- I have not been able to tell the difference, and counting how much of a crazy stress I put to this good old thing every day...I'd have noticed even a little decrease. Neither noticed any collision or problem. I made a basic tutorial on how to handle it, in these forums, but that was so long ago, would be hard for me to find it fast now...

Designer can handle 28 pages, no problem! In fact, it has a lot of the same tools as InDesign, so you should have no problem. The only thing you won't have is an easy way to manage text flows, where a block of text flows one page to the next, but other than that, the character, paragraph and text tools in Designer are robust enough to handle most of what you will likely encounter.

I made a 48 pages document with Designer. It has some thinks you have to do manually but it's still doable.
    Best regards!

Great news, I wait patiently for the holy trinity to be completed.
Judging from the evolution of designer and photo I do expect publisher to cover 100% of my workflow with indesign, if not from the launch then within a year.
Thank you guys and keep up the good work!

That's right, though there are often additional other things for DTP programs to also take into account here too. For example when a software should also be able to be used for (technical) book creations (not just a few pages brochures) and the like too, it would also need to be capable to deal with flexible and dynamic page numberings, custom tags, customizable header and footer settings, support for creating table of contents, various indexes (pages, images, tables...), abbreviations, footnotes, language specific based grammar and hyphenations etc. etc. - So there is much more to take care about for such software than people do usually refer here!

I can make a small list
more control over text and the flow of it, you can for example make the text warp around an object or a shape more content is external links, so this make the file way lighter, also you can control the quality of the displayed image so you can work lighter and faster (end pdf will be full quality) the master pages, this is a big deal, you can have specific options that you may need to apply in specific chapters or just plain simple to put a layout and numbering that automatically is added in each new page The list is not a big list but its important, the control over text is a big deal, you can have many different text or paragraph styles all over your pages and chapters and many times you will be working with a lot of pages.
Also the ability to have a lot of content in a ton of pages is important too, I make 8-12 pages pdfs for print with designer at the moment but after a couple of pages it is getting way too heavy to work with, so I do make one file per page now to be able to manage them. It is understandable that designer can't handle so much content, it is made to create content and have different focus for the available system resources.
A DTP program however is more of a content manager where you organize your content in pages.

Yep, it was a popular deal and so got extended. When one adds up the normal total cost for both, it's what, about $1300 USD? So the deal is relatively inexpensive (and broad in scope as regards what qualifies for the deal)...but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. Thereafter, upgrades are about $175 USD (in the past, I don't know if that will come down now that Quark has moved to a (roughly) year cycle.

The imposition works well in pdfToolbox aside from the other obvious benefits.

But, do note that there is a magazine in Germany that is giving away QXP 2015 with the magazine this month.
    https://shop.heise.de/katalog/ct-kreativ-arbeiten-2017

At least that's what I'm told. No idea about the veracity of the offer nor the magazine itself so buyer beware and all that.

Well on the heise c't website they say about that QuarkXPress 2015 version, which comes along as a give away with that "c't work creatively" magazin issue...
Details about the full version of QuarkXPress 2015
Professional layout and desktop publishing software for designing magazines, books, brochures, flyers, business cards, CD covers, posters, and more.  Suitable for professional pre-press, PDF / X-4 and e-book export (ePub and Kindle). Full 64-bit software, supported on macOS Retina resolution. You get an unrestricted right of use (registration required). System requirement: at least Windows 7 SP1 (64 bit) or macOS 10.9 (it also runs under 10.8 and 10.13, but is not certified for this.) In macOS High Sierra, cosmetic export inaccuracies may occur in a few export dialogs.). Fully upgradeable to the latest version until at least the end of 2019. Including 60 days of free support. Further they claim ...
Each buyer can download an unlimited full version of the professional layout program QuarkXPress 2015 worth 800 euros for free and use it on up to two computers. It can be installed both under Windows (7 to 10) and under macOS (10.9 to 10.13).
So it sounds like an upgradable QXP 2015 full version. Also AFAIK, the QXP software is always already localized for different languages and thus it should more depend on the used host systems language, aka where you are going to install it.

Sure publisher is not gonna be the hit designer and photo was (I mean how many home users need this?), but it can have a good halo effect with designers, I have spoke with a lot of other designers about affinity programs and all told me they are waiting for publisher to get them all together and try to switch from adobe (most of us in that discussion work with the holy trinity photoshop-illustrator-indesign).
I personally don't need much from publisher, I mean most of what I do with DTP software can be covered from scribus anyway, but I could love an affinity program that can play well with designer and photo so I can have a faster workflow (like drag n drop from each program to the other).

At least on Macs, there is a "Synchronize tools between documents" Tools preference. When this is enabled, the current selection tool Add/New/Subtract/Intersect setting remains sticky when you switch between two open documents; otherwise they are independent of each other. I am not quite sure how this works when this pref is enabled -- sometimes both open documents retain the same setting but other times not.
