I understand that affinity designer is so good that it can make multipage documents (I made a lot of 8 page brochures myself there) but ePub functionality definitely is more suited for the publisher and not for designer that is intended as an vector design program. They could add it sure, but I would prefer the team for publisher to spent that time and effort, and team for designer focus on designer's things.

Hello I use a Develop Ineo+ 258 (same with konica minolta C258) with windows 10. I mostly have problems with selecting custom sizes that is like 50% of what I print, but after a few tries the dialog box change from defined from printer to custom size and it take the size from the driver. I use PCL and PS drivers, mostly to the same effect, not matter what I choose (they show up like different printers to select in printer selection).

Hello, not sure what changed because I haven't changed anything at driver level or affinity version for some time now, but lately affinity designer doesn't get the print size from the driver in the print dialog box. It doesn't happen all the time so I still try to pinpoint the problem, but is it possible that this have something to do with that print spooling problem microsoft had with windows lately and they patched?

can you work with a trackpad? I couldn't get used to it even with the great trackpad of my macbook 6.1 but maybe it is because most applications are designed with mouse in mind, like what happens here.

this is working fine and actually I think it's perfect in terms of usability, it is just not obvious from the description that you have to hold right click and do a left click.

thanks but I don't seem to be able to reproduce the above problem that I described last year. It selects everything fine now! Maybe it was this with the layer select and in some version turned it on for all by default and this fixed my specific problem? No idea.

Hello, till recently affinity designer used to automatically change the enter of full stop when trying to enter a below 1 value in stroke size to a comma, so I could enter stroke size 0.5 from the numpad and designer changed it to 0,5 and accepted it as a size. Now this functionality is removed and it just change the 0.5 to 5. And the actual comma is on the other side of the keyboard so that adds an extra step to stop what I'm doing and look for it. I don't know how many people use numpad those days (or even full sized keyboards at all) but that was extremely helpful for me. Can we get it back please? edit: I tried it at home that I have 1.9.0 and it still worked back then.

Thanks everyone for the input on this. I have my print guy coming back to me all the time for the PDFs that doesn't open and I had no clue on why this is happening. I had to open the PDF in illustrator and save again through it to have them working on his Corel Draw. I will keep in mind now not to have this advanced option enabled. After all I have my files foolproffed with curves and expanded outlines and all, before sent them for print.

Thank you all in affinity team, this print crash was starting to get in my nerves lately. A lot of preview prints those days. Ah it sad the openCL was disabled for AMD cards, I was hoping to use it in home with my 5500XT, but well not a big lose for me since I mostly work in office which is not getting any GPU upgrade anytime soon with those crazy GPU prices out there. (Just wanted to add a side note here that may be of interest for AMD users because like me they probably don't know what card works and what does not, the only 7XXX card that support this is 7790 that is a newer CGN card. If you are like me and have anything else before that you are out of luck. You will need something from radeon 2XX and above.)

I also have crash to desktop when I send a print from designer 1.9, it was not a problem with 1.8 and noticed it the very first day I installed (I print a lot of size previews before do the actual print with a PDF file outside of designer) I have noticed so far that this is happening with the old files (pre ver. 1.9) and the new ones. I tried save the work as a new file and still happens. If I copy the artboard from the old file crash again. If I copy the graphics and paste in a new artboard it works, but if I make another artboard it crash again. If I make a new document draw a shape, it prints with one artboard but it crash if I add another. Using cmyk or rgb doesn't change anything, still crash and burn. I suspect the problem is with the artboards. As it crash once you add another in a new file. I don't know if the crash report is working, I don't get any window about that after restarting the program, but I have the automatic sent and I have the report to be send with my credentials, so maybe someone from affinity can tell us if they have got a report from my mail? My printer is a Konica Minolta/Develop bizhum C258/ineo+ 258 with the latest available drivers (a bit dated from summer 2019 but everywhere else they work fine). But I doubt this is the case here because I never get to see the print dialog, it crash before I can select the printer or to print as PDF. It is not like I select a specific printer and it crash after I send print, it crash when I press ctrl+P or go through the file->print My system is below, everything updated.

Now with the great new benchmark tool we have the ability to compare results but wouldn't it be great to have some short of database for that? I don't know, even a draft made one like a thread here in the forum with results edited manually in the first post? I'm really interested to see if affinities perform better on specific hardware because this can change what I buy next. or what system to prefer to work with from the existing ones (for example I have an amd and an intel system at office, they are about the same raw power but there are always favored childs in hardware and software, so which one is better suited to use for affinity?)

hm I will take a deeper look into it then. As is my GPU is not supported and probably your team need to adjust the text here to reflect on support for CGN 1.1 that is the version from which there is full DX12 support (mine is a 7850 CGN 1.0 that is DX12, yet not full DX12, don't ask me how they do that ) I don't really feel comfortable with getting an nvidia GPU for my own reasons, but if it can improve my performance it is not out of the question. What I don't understand is why it requires DirectX for openCL , I though openCL is a different API and OS agnostic

Thank you all in affinity team for this new version! Just a question, does the GPU acceleration have any meaningful impact in the program performance? I download now to try out but my GPU may not be compatible due to being a DX12 card with some DX12 features enabled. But if it makes a difference in performance I may consider upgrading my GPU because I already maxed out that system on where it can go with the CPU upgrades.

and make sure it is selected, it will show blue on the layer. Even with one layer it is not selected by default all the time.

Hello Tony, make sure you have the appropriate layer selected. Photo have the ability to have no layer selected and doesn't select the last used by default, if for some reason you deselected it. So the tool doesn't understand where to apply and does nothing. The selected layer will be highlighted, also it can happen with only one layer.

but if adobe have hardlocked their files like this, what they can do? The only thing we can do is to ask stock providers to make pdf compatible files.

indeed, I don't remember exactly where it started but I started working on another, older file that had the same menu items from a brochure I did for the same client and then saved as, then I make the first text box with the style I want to follow and then copy it for the rest of the sections. Then I copy the text from the old artboards that I want and I paste without format to keep the style of the text it replace. I have experienced something similar with old files coming from another version of designer but this time they are made with the current version. Maybe something, somewhere broke and I kept moving this from file to file?

ok this is getting weird now. I have this file that I upload below. It is a typical menu and as of that I have a couple of text fields for each category. They are copies from the first one (if it matters at all) and I have this weird behavior here. When I try to select textbox 1 in the page and I click from it's middle and below (for selecting the text there for example) with the pointer OR the text tool, it go and select the text box below (no3). This only happen with textbox 1 and 3 and not for example with 2 and 4. It also happens in artboard 2 (a copy of the first one with changed content) I also tried to copy the content and paste it in a new textbox, and this behavior remains. It only goes away if I make a new text field and write everything from the start. Any idea? Is it a bug? upload.afdesign

Probably some bug of the moment. I just couldn't select the object directly below this handle when I posted. But now it works as intended. I probably never noticed this handle before and now that for some reason it was extending the selection box of it's object, I did noticed it. So when I was trying to select the object below it, I was selecting the same object. Because the selection area happened to be at the same height of that handle I though that I enabled something.

Hello I probably pressed some hotkey while tried to type without selecting to type first and now above every object I have this thing that also enlarge the selection hitbox and give me some trouble selecting objects. Where can I disable this? Thanks!

That's weird, in windows it paste as vector from illustrator to designer and visa versa.
