Aammppaa reacted to Kasper-V in Vertical sundial
I found a pic of a wall-mounted sundial at Norbury Manor in Derbyshire in my old photos. (It's a National Trust property, and open to visitors from time to time.) It was erected as a memorial to (I think) the former owner, who died in 1987. I've changed all the inscriptions in the foolish hope of looking clever.

The base colour is 45/38/71 in HSL . . .

and I found a grungy texture in my collection (this is a reduced copy) . . .

and after some playing about, I found an opacity or 25% and a blend mode Colour Burn gave me a pleasing marble-like effect.
For the incised text, I darkened the fill slightly and applied an Inner Bevel/Emboss FX using the first (triangular) profile, inverted. I adjusted the radius till the bevels met in the middle, making the letters look as though they'd been carved.

Aammppaa got a reaction from jpfouch48 in Warping curve in symbol is not applied to all symbols.
I just revisited this issue today in v2.3.1 and it appears to be functioning correctly?
I made a symbol and duplicated it. Then applied a Warp Group to the curves inside the Symbol. Both instances of the symbol received the Warp Group and deformed correctly.
    So is this bug fixed?

Aammppaa reacted to MEB in Warping curve in symbol is not applied to all symbols.
    Hi @Aammppaa,
Officially no. It's still on the backlog - nobody has been able to recreate it from scratch since v2.2.0.2005.
I also haven't been able to recreate it in the current release version nor in the beta (both macOS and Windows). It's possible same other change(s) may have fixed this. Currently we only have a couple old files where the issue is still visible (no deformation) when we open the files.

My brother bought a new place and requested I make him a poster on human evolution using the skulls. It took a while to research and decide what would work and to weed through alternative ways to present to timeline. The images were draw  in AP and it was set up in Apub.  The illustrations separately are on 15x15" canvases and the printed poster will be 12x18".

A series of portraits inspired by people, nature and ideas from all corners of our world.
For this first one we travel to East Africa to meet DADA.
Dada is a Swahili word which refers to a female sibling. It's a term of endearment and familiarity, often used within the family circle. The term conveys a sense of closeness and protectiveness.
Dada can also be used to address any female friend or acquaintance. Similar to how "sister" can be used as a term of endearment in English, It's a way to express warmth and connection beyond familial ties.
Dada is imbued with positive connotations, carrying a sense of affection, respect, and regard. When addressing someone as "dada," you're expressing a level of familiarity and care, acknowledging their presence and value. It's a way of showing that you hold the person in high esteem.

That document loaded for me in around a second but I don’t have the linked files.
The Resource Manager says that a lot of the images are “Linked (Remote)”, maybe from a website or somewhere similar, so that’s probably a good place to start.
If you have linked images it’s usually best to have them stored locally on the machine you are using.
I’ve attached a copy of the document with the images removed in case it helps.

There are a few different methods. Here is one...
Draw a square 12" by 11". Draw a crescent, rotate, then rotate and resize (to get a perfect arc). Use the shape builder to merge the two shapes. Scale the bottom edge to 10" I hope that I understood your instructions!

@colinml You can change the defaults, and may indeed do so a number of times during the process of creating a single document as you work on different sections.
I find the Affinity help to be pretty good over all, though I appreciate that it is tricky to know what to look for when you are starting out.
Have a read of the page on Object Defaults.
To answer your other question about dragging a line into a curve... no this will not snap as snapping only relates to nodes and handles, and you are dragging neither! If you wanted to take this approach, I would drag (holding Shift to constrain to vertical movement) and get the curve very close to where I wanted it (zooming in if necessary). Then I'd release the mouse, followed by a click to insert a new node, which can subsequently be snapped at the expense of (very) slightly distorting the curve.
For a sewing pattern this tiny level of distortion will be insignificant, but if you want precision then the approach using the Crescent tool will yield a perfect result.

Aammppaa, thank you.  I will have to go back and review the steps to using the shape builder tool, so I can delete the parts I mean to delete, but, yes, I see how this works.  I do have a related question, though.  Strokes seem to default to width "none."  And shapes are always filled.  Is there a way to change the default and/or is there some reason I would not want to change the default?  I don't understand why I would want my shapes to disappear if unfilled, nor why I would want to have to define a stroke width every time I made one.

As a general response to both of you, thank you.  That gives me the information I needed to decide whether to press forward in learning how to use Affinity Designer and not have to use Illustrator.  Now that I've seen a glimpse of how to do these simple tasks, I see that it's actually easier than my (scant) 1990s CAD experience.

Aammppaa reacted to Ash in 2.4.0 Beta Build 2 (2240)
    Hi All,
We have just made a new build available of the 2.4 beta live - version 2.4.0.2240 - which will be available to you on auto update shortly. The fix list for this build is here.

In addition to those fixes we have made a couple of tweaks to insertion target locking based on your feedback:
You can now choose to lock your insertion target to insert inside your selection. All lock insertion options can now be applied on iPad via a long press on the relevant option, in addition to alt-click. Thanks as always for your continued feedback!

Other fixes in this build are listed in Patrick's post here.
    Thanks,
