I never said it is my business. It is Serif's business to take into account amateur or non-designer feedback with a grain of salt. Affinity declares the ambition of a professional graphic design suite so it should behave as such.
I do not mean any harm by "relevant minority", it's just a fact that if Affinity or any other professional design software will be developed by mainly taking into account a minority of the use cases instead of their target audience it will sooner or later either go bankrupt or turn into a glorified Canva (which by the way is a great software for running "affordable" marketing materials for small businesses).
I truly wish you the best of luck with your business and hope you succeed with it, but once again, Affinity is (by their own standards) a professional design suite, so when we're all here discussing improvements to professional workflows and you come screaming "cheap, old hardware, iPad" I don't think I am the one with the attitude.
I never said you or any other person's business is insignificant and I would never disrespect you, your business or your skills, but if you truly wish for the best from this suite as most of us here do you would have no problem telling the staff (not me) what you use this software for so that they can make informed decisions when establishing priorities.
Also a great thing about Affinity's licensing, code, and ethics is that if you ever feel like this suite has become too complex or expensive for your personal or business needs you can just stick to 2.0 and keep doing your thing, as most of us here are discussing with a 3.0 release in mind that will hopefully integrate much better with a professional workflow.
All the best to you, your team, and your business.

It is thanks in no small part to that "relevant minority" – whatever that is supposed to mean – that I and many other members know how to get the most from this software. That in turn has allowed me to run my very small and insignificant business effectively and, above all, affordably.
    So drop the attitude, please.

Aammppaa reacted to NotMyFault in Adding (perfect) circle shape, radius invariant to rotation.
    Hi,

there are several complaints about circle made from ellipse not being perfect, meaning the radius will differ slightly depending on rotation angle. Most obvious if you look at 45° angle.
For reference, one of the latest bug reports:
    https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/148430-power-duplicate-around-circle-not-precise-what-am-i-missing/&tab=comments#comment-840218
This could easily solved by adding one additional shape: a circle, made of 12 nodes instead of only 4. The "real" circle will be almost rotation invariant.
Almost means that in all tests using up to 256.000^2 pixel canvas size the deviation of radius while rotating this circle was smaller than 1 pixel.
The regular ellipse based circle causes a deviation of up to 12,7px at 65536 px canvas, or 1/5000 or 0,2 *10^-3

Aammppaa reacted to GarryP in How to align three circles at their tangent points
I’ve shown one method to do this in my attached video (the text below isn’t a step-by-step guide, just notes on the video).
“Enable Snapping” should be ON, “Snap to object bounding boxes” should be ON, and “Include Bounding box mid points” should be ON.
Part A – The first circle
If you are not using Designer, and therefore can’t use the Point Transform Tool, or you just want to do it quickly, then, instead of the instructions in this part, you can simply snap the left ‘side’ of circle B to the right ‘side’ of of circle A and then rotate all the circles to how you want them later.
Draw a line from the centre of circle A to anywhere.
Use the Node Tool to move the end of the line to get the angle you want.
Use the Point Transform Tool to move and rotate circle B.
Use the Point Transform Tool to translate circle B so that it touches circle A.
Part B – The second circle
The width of the first construction circle should be: width of circle A plus width of circle C.
The width of the second construction circle should be: width of circle B plus width of circle C.
If you aren’t using Designer (and can’t use the Point Transform Tool) you can draw a line from the intersection of the two construction circles (to anywhere, the end point doesn’t matter) and then use snapping with the Move Tool to drag circle C into place.
Note: If you don't want circle B to be rotated after this then you can just double-click the rotation handle to reset it.
Important: There may be tiny gaps between the circles but that’s because they aren’t perfect circles, and that’s because of the way the Affinity applications draw circles using bezier curves. I don’t think there’s anything we can do about this.

Well, this is probably too much fiddle and complicated for many people. - It would be better to have a user friendly switchable mode that then doesn't overlap shapes when aligning.

FYI I actually use something slightly different.  If I need to have 10 circles that are 70px apart in diameter, use cmd J to duplicate the circle 9 times at the existing size.  I then make sure the center is selected and the aspect ratio is locked.  Save "+70px*" to the clipboard.  Click on the lowest circle's layer.
Press opt cmd }            to go to the next circle's layer
Click twice on either the X or Y dimension
Press cmd V                 to paste the +70px* to the base circle size
Press 2 and Enter         increment this number with each circle
    Repeat
So far that's the easiest way I have found to do it.

Xara uses this approach (left click = fill, right click = stroke). IMHO it is very quick and becomes muscle memory very quickly.
This has been requested several times before...
There are issues of consistency if the same approach were introduced to Affinity... Not all mice have right click. Can you right click on an iPad?
Also, Swatches panel already uses right click to bring up a menu.
So, sadly I can't see Serif implementing this.

Aammppaa got a reaction from Kal in Shapes - Equilateral Triangle
Perhaps I am missing something obvious... but the triangle shape only has one parametric control (Top Point), which defines where the top point sits as a percentage of the width of the triangle. The preset in question has this set to 50%, the middle, which is where it would need to be for an equilateral triangle, BUT...
I can drag out a triangle of any height and click the preset. It will center the Top Point, but it is certainly not equilateral!
If I drag and hold Shift to constrain height = width, again this is not equilateral. Indeed the height should be: width × sin(60)
So, I agree with @Timespider... the triangle tool can not easily create equilateral triangles, and the first preset draws isosceles triangles, not equilateral. Plus there is no way to force the triangle tool to draw only equilateral triangles, nor to save a preset that only creates equilateral triangles.
    And the help agrees too...
Though to be fair the icon does show an isosceles triangle!

Hi - I need to be able to find files by searching for text within the file (see forum thread 'Searching for a document containing specific text')   On this thread 'Oufti' suggests 'Affinity should provide a Spotlight importer plugin, a small piece of software that could interpret the content of these files and report it to the macOS search engine'  - and 'Bures' suggests   'Can you add an option to applications to "Save indexable text with the file", after which the application would traverse all text fields and other specified text and save it to a file.'  I've copied their comments because they know the tech lingo better than I do!

Oh, for heaven's sake, this thread is infuriatingly nonsensical and shockingly unserious. And bloody annoying. You all evidently lack the experience of conversing with people outside the realms of the Internet. Please, just stop fueling this thread by engaging with someone you clearly know is beyond rational discussion, and allow Serif to handle the moderation.
It's impossible to ignore or block threads here, so you're subjecting everyone to the thoroughly miserable experience of seeing this thread resurface time and time again.

I'm with @Peter Mican why complicate something, isn't the best policy to end up at the lowest common denominator, isn't it good to give people a way to work that suits their way of thinking. My brain doesn't automatically think that circle is two 180º arcs, I think it's a complete 360º circle.
+1 for a 360º dial that starts with 0 at the top. Be more amadine

The panel does support 360 degrees to the extent that if you enter a value such as 270, it is converted to -90 for you.
It varies how programs handle angles in the transform panel. Amadine seems to be your friend, also allowing one to visually see or adjust the angle within a circle as well.

Is it possible to switch from  +/- 180 degree to 360 degrees rotation angles ?
That would make working with angles sooooo much easier.
    Thank you very much.

I learned a lot while trying to solve the problems that came up every ten minutes...🤔

I found a pic of a wall-mounted sundial at Norbury Manor in Derbyshire in my old photos. (It's a National Trust property, and open to visitors from time to time.) It was erected as a memorial to (I think) the former owner, who died in 1987. I've changed all the inscriptions in the foolish hope of looking clever.

The base colour is 45/38/71 in HSL . . .

and I found a grungy texture in my collection (this is a reduced copy) . . .

and after some playing about, I found an opacity or 25% and a blend mode Colour Burn gave me a pleasing marble-like effect.
For the incised text, I darkened the fill slightly and applied an Inner Bevel/Emboss FX using the first (triangular) profile, inverted. I adjusted the radius till the bevels met in the middle, making the letters look as though they'd been carved.
