I cannot allow this to stand. Gary Bates and Jim Bryce were both very long term employees in Sales and Development for well over 20 years long before they took on Director roles. They dedicated their careers to both the Serif Legacy range and the Affinity range. Please stop this

There are genuinely no plans for us to remove the availability of our apps to purchase as a perpetual licence. I will say it is possible in the future there may be an optional way to have them via a Canva subscription plan (which could also include other integrations with Canva / cloud services which you would not get with the perpetual version). But it’s very early days and there isn't a firm plan on that.
I honestly think you'll all be pleased with the outcome of this. With the additional financial backing we have no pressure at all to release a V3 anytime soon, so can be 100% focused on ploughing all our efforts into free V2 updates for the foreseeable future - and we've got some great updates in the works.
Realise this announcement has come as a surprise and I understand the feeling of uncertainty which is brings, but I do think it's all very positive for the company and our customers.

Hi @LaPope79 and welcome to the forums,
Staggeringly no... I've always assumed this to be a bug...
To my way of thinking, if you move a shape's origin, using Flip Horizontal and Flip Vertical should flip the shape about its origin but it doesn't it flips the shape about its centre so subsequently flips the shape's origin...
This may well be the intended behaviour for these tools but if that is the case then the apps are sorely missing a proper reflect tool...

As per the post title, is this not possible?

    Am I missing something?

Aammppaa reacted to JET_Affinity in Set selection box
Having just downloaded the 2.4.0.2301 update, the first thing I've done is rush to check again the behavior of this feature, which—to me—is the most important of all in the new beta. I'm still somewhat disappointed:
Unless I'm missing something, if I…
Select multiple objects, one of which is a diagonally-oriented (relative to the page) simple, straight path drawn with the Pen. Set that straight path as the Key Object. Select_Set Selection Box. …then the bounding boxes of the objects other than the straight path do not re-orient to that of the straight path. Instead, they seem to either re-orient to one of the selected but non-key objects, or sometimes even become skewed bounding boxes.
First off, there is nothing intuitive about this behavior. Moreover, it wrecks what is, for my purposes, the greatest potential of a feature that (at long last) enables us to re-orient the scale handles independently of the current orientation of the content of the bounding box.
Set Selection Box should work the same way when the Key Object is an open straight path created with the Pen, as when any other object is the Key Object.
One of the first things mentioned in the initial announcement of this feature is isometric drawing. Well, a very basic principle of axonometric drawing (not just isometric) is that the minor diameter of any ellipse (that is a projection of a tilted circle) is always parallel to its 'thrust line' (the 'axis' that the ellipse 'orbits'). Failure to do that is the 'dead giveaway' of one of the most common errors in technical illustration. It instantly 'jumps off the page' and 'hurts the eyes' of an experienced technical illustrator.
But here's the thing: That principle of circles always being foreshortened in the direction parallel to their 'thrust lines' does not just apply to circles. It applies to literally any planar shape(s). Whole labels. Whole floorplans. Everything.
We need to be able to do this:
Draw something 'in-the-flat', no matter how simple or elaborate. Draw a simple, single-segment, straight path in any diagonal direction (the 'thrust line' that is perpendicular to the plane of the object(s) about to be scaled). (We should not have to use a box or anything other than a straight path, just to serve as a scale direction). Rotate the bounding box(es) of the objects to be scaled without rotating their contents, thereby snapping the scale handles into parallel with the 'thrust line'. Deselect the 'thrust line'. Scale the other selected objects in the direction parallel to the 'thrust line'. It should be obvious that the need to simply draw a simple straight path in any required direction and have it serve as the 'thrust line' is essential (and intuitive).
That feature, if implemented as described, would be something that to my knowledge does not exist in competing mainstream 2D general-purpose vector drawing programs.
But here's the other thing: I don't see why the interface for this can't be more intuitive and more elegant:
Simply provide a momentary keyboard shortcut that, when dragging the 'lollypop' bounding box rotation handle, causes the bounding box to rotate without rotating its content. And make that rotation aware of active Snap settings. Seems to me, that would be more direct and intuitively discoverable than the menu selections, and on-page tactile instead of just tucked away in a menu.
Lest anyone think this is only about mechanically-correct tech drawing…it's not. Example:
Suppose I'm not just a tech illustrator, but also a caricaturist. Everyone knows that every time Pinocchijoe opens his mouth, his nose grows. So suppose I've drawn a series of cartoon frames in which Pinocchijoe is looking up at the sky, down at his feet, for the nearest stage exit, etc. I need to increasingly stretch his nose in the corresponding direction in which he's looking in each subsequent frame. So I simply:
Select the object(s) that comprise his nose Set the transform anchor at the base of his nose mousedown on the lollypop, press the keyboard modifier, and rotate the bounding box around its content mousedown on the now correctly-oriented scale handle and drag it to scale the selection in the needed direction What am I missing here?

For the creation of infographics, for example, it would be great if both Designer and Publisher would have a connector tool included in the toolset. It should be fully editable in all its style elements like stroke width, pattern (e.g. dashed), color, and shadow, start and end arrows, curve type (straight, steps, curves), connecting to each other, creating style presets, adding text, and everything else you can think of being helpful 🙂

Aammppaa reacted to postmadesign in Designer Pencil Tool improvements
I really like the freehand vector pencil tool in Designer, but there are some thing that are a bit annoying and could improved imo.
    1. Auto close was added in 2.0, but I find that in most cases it is not very useful. I would rather have the ability to close a path when the starting and end point are at a specified distance from eachother, say 10 points. This would allow me to use sculpt mode AND create closed paths, which is not possible right now.
    2. Set smoothing factor: I would like the ability to set the accuracy of the stroke I draw, from very raw input with a lot of accuracy to a more smoothed out line.
    3. Related to the previous point is the problem I have with zooming and pencil accuracy. The more zoomed out you are, the less accurate/more smoothed out the path becomes. I wish for a general smoothness regardless of zoom level.
    4. I would love the integration of a Path eraser, that would be able to cut lines up to an intersection. This is possible using the Shapebuilder tool right now, so the code is there, but having it integrated in the Pencil tool and available with a shortcut would make it much more intitive and fast. This would probably require an option to keep all drawn paths selected.

Aammppaa reacted to Aurea Ratio in Requesting better knife tool handling with guides
I have started to use the knife tool more and more on objects that I arrange following a precise guide pattern, and I trim the objects with the knife after the guides. Therefore, I use keyboard shortcuts to make straight cuts. It's probably not the first time in human history that someone has cut along a drawn line. 😊
Unfortunately, in terms of user-friendliness, it's not very easy to hit the guide precisely, it's hard to see when/if I hit it, and whether I follow the guide. I zoom in and out a lot and often miss.
I think, when snapping is enabled, you should add some snapping between the knife and guides at least, some kind of assisted mode where it's nearly impossible not to start on the guide and follow it, so you cut precisely.
Instead, I use boolean operators for precision when I can, and that's a pity. 😞

Aammppaa got a reaction from Oufti in Transform/resize by percentage?
@jmsjms In the case of Image Layers (and other placed / embedded layer types) you can actually see the Scaling percentage on the context toolbar, and there is even a handy Original Size button to reset to 100%.

For other types of object, I don't believe that the Scaling is stored (or if it is, it is not accessible to the user), so there is no way to return a pixel layer, or curve (for example) to the size at which it was originally created.

I never said it is my business. It is Serif's business to take into account amateur or non-designer feedback with a grain of salt. Affinity declares the ambition of a professional graphic design suite so it should behave as such.
I do not mean any harm by "relevant minority", it's just a fact that if Affinity or any other professional design software will be developed by mainly taking into account a minority of the use cases instead of their target audience it will sooner or later either go bankrupt or turn into a glorified Canva (which by the way is a great software for running "affordable" marketing materials for small businesses).
I truly wish you the best of luck with your business and hope you succeed with it, but once again, Affinity is (by their own standards) a professional design suite, so when we're all here discussing improvements to professional workflows and you come screaming "cheap, old hardware, iPad" I don't think I am the one with the attitude.
I never said you or any other person's business is insignificant and I would never disrespect you, your business or your skills, but if you truly wish for the best from this suite as most of us here do you would have no problem telling the staff (not me) what you use this software for so that they can make informed decisions when establishing priorities.
Also a great thing about Affinity's licensing, code, and ethics is that if you ever feel like this suite has become too complex or expensive for your personal or business needs you can just stick to 2.0 and keep doing your thing, as most of us here are discussing with a 3.0 release in mind that will hopefully integrate much better with a professional workflow.
All the best to you, your team, and your business.

It is thanks in no small part to that "relevant minority" – whatever that is supposed to mean – that I and many other members know how to get the most from this software. That in turn has allowed me to run my very small and insignificant business effectively and, above all, affordably.
    So drop the attitude, please.
