  1. Serif have said that the help file is unfinished and as such they don't need feedback on it in the current state. Booklets / books will no doubt be added before release. As to how we should go about printing them, I can't help as I've not succeeded myself. Also there is a known bug with duplex printing at the moment, so perhaps a bit futile to try?
  2. You are correct that the insertion sub-menu is not present in Publisher (at present). The help file is far from complete and mostly based on the Designer help file, where the insertion sub-menu does exist! You can customise the toolbar and add the insert target icons which perform the same function as the sub-menu. As far a clipping goes… The easiest method in my opinion is to drag layers inside each other in the layers panel. Alternatively you can cut and paste inside, either on the Edit menu or with the keypress Ctrl+Alt+V.
  3. This is consistent with all Affinity apps and not a bug. Instead of the arrow the interface responds to… The up and down cursor keys The mouse wheel Additionally you can use the following modifiers… Shift - to jump in 10s Ctrl - to move by 0.1
  4. Ah yes this was the change I was thinking of… - Added Geometry operations to the Customise Toolbar dialog on Mac
  5. I only see slow down (on PC) if the group gets pretty complicated. How complex is your group? 2 objects or 200 objects? Can you attach a simple file that shows exhibits the problem?
  6. There is an opacity input box in the Colour Panel. Or an opacity input in the Layer Panel (which sets layer opacity rather than colour opacity). You can also set layer opacity at any time by simply typing on the digit keys. For example: with an object selected press 5 to set 50% opacity. Or quickly type 33 to set 33% opacity. However, it is a little odd that the fill drop down (in all Affinity apps) doesn't also contain a text input option.
  7. Weren't the Boolean operations added to the toolbar in 1.7.0.58 or did I add them there myself via customize toolbar? Either way, I have them on my toolbar in Publisher and Alt clicking works just as it does in Designer.
  8. Like the subtle strawberry silhouette and the nod to the Belgian flag.
  9. Yep, Affinity can mask and clip. They are similar but different. I find that I do much more clipping than masking in graphic design type work.
  10. Oh crap - thanks Walt, was working from memory rather than looking!
  11. I am seeing Previews on my PC. At the top right of the Text Styles panel is a small menu. Can you click it and check whether Preview is selected.
  12. The Pen tool has 4 modes, including Line and Polygon (multi-line). Here is the relevant page in Affinity Designer help since Publisher's help is not yet online (but can be found within the app - it is well worth a read). https://affinity.help/designer/en-US.lproj/pages/Tools/tools_pen.html
  13. You can nest an unlimited number of objects within a parent object. Can't you simply put all your images inside the text? Create your type and drag anything you want clipped inside the text within the layers panel.
  14. This is probably the most commonly reported bug in Affinity Designer, and had been discussed many times before. Essentially it is an artifact of the current anti aliasing system. Serif are aware of the issue, and hope to fix it at some point, but there is no indication of when, certainly not in 1.7 For more details I strongly recommend the search box, top right of the forum.
  15. Growing and shrinking the Master and Pages sections in the Pages Panel sometimes causes Pages to jump right to the bottom of the panel. GIF shows it happening.
  16. Is the line art on a transparent background, or white? If it is on white then you need to deal with that first - there are various ways. One method would be to set the line art to Multiply blend mode. Photo also has an Erase White Paper filter which often works well. (Filters > Colour)
  17. There is a pinned post about this very subject… The forum search (top right) is very useful.
  18. If you disable Edit All Layer bottom left of Layers Panel then I think Select All is limited to the current artboard. However, I generally find that disabling edit all layers to be a pain in the bum. Especially as I can't see a way to bind a keypress to the toggle
  19. Select text tool, and type some text. Right click to open context menu. Hit escape key. Do some more typing. Expected: Context menu closes. Actual: Context menu remains open obscuring the screen. Affects: Designer, Photo and Publisher Beta.
  20. Given that that is the entire system on which Master pages are built, I don't see it as a work around. What I do see is that it needs a huge upgrade to the functionality and the UI. Something along the lines of… Promoting an item via a keypress, icon on a toolbar, or icon on the bounding box (akin to the Text Flow triangle) would temporarily disable sync until the user selected a different object. At which point sync would auto-re-enable. An upgraded symbols panel that clearly showed which attributes had been de-synced (a tool-tip in the layers panel is not sufficient). The ability to see detailed info for each attribute about the symbol vs the local copy (eg Symbol: Comic Sans, Local: Helvetica). The panel should have all the niceties of reordering, searching, renaming etc and also tell you how many times the symbol has been used. It would be great to allow you to highlight all instances on the canvas, or just modified instances. The ability to revert changed attributes is also a must. Not just as a whole, but individually. The ability to swap one symbol for another. But most of all Symbols need debugging! If you've ever seriously tried to use symbols, and specifically nested symbols, you will find that they are incredibly unstable. Elements frequently vanish, or change stacking order, or jump to a wildly different location. Dragged objects in the layers panel that pass over a symbol, pick up the symbol flag. Assets that are symbols leave hundreds of copies snail-trailed out behind them when dragged onto the canvas. Copy-pasting symbols between documents is unreliable. And various other issues that are reported over the past year. When I saw that Master Pages were just symbols I thought: Oh, clever idea. Serif must have fixed the Symbol system if they are basing such a central feature of Publisher on symbol technology. Sadly not - though several forum posts have said that an overhaul of Symbols is coming at some point. Still - I love my Affinity apps, and use them daily despite the flaws.
  21. Good find. It seems that words which start with 1 or 2 digits do bring up the dictionary options, but 3 or more digits and they disappear. Also discovered another small bug will fiddling with this, which I'll report elsewhere.
  22. Yes. Dozens of times. I made a post about the subject last week pointing out that it is in fact possible to promote items from a Master to be editable at local level, but that it is buggy and poorly implemented at present. A tepid response from the forum in general, and Affinity seemed to play it down as an incomplete feature. As such I've not talked about it again and the thread has disappear into the depths of the forum. And yet every day there are new threads asking for the exact same functionality!
  23. @Pšenda That will create the hole, but it doesn't give the hole an outline. You could of course group another circle with Normal blend mode to add the outline back in.
