    Hello.
I know these two functions have been asked before and some people question them ( specially the Shape Builder Tool) but I found a quick video that shows them working together.
I think these are the only two things I'm missing from Illustrator . These two tools are  pretty much essential for Logo and Brand Designers (which I'm sure are a big market )
Hope they are added to the road map soon , now that you are working on the improved convert to path function.
    Thanks

A couple of things I've noticed when using the appearance panel, these might have been noted before –
I have a collection of styles I use to add textures, but if I have a object with multiple strokes/fills etc, it's not possible to add the style to a new fill layer without it removing all the other fills/strokes. So if i want to add the texture style I need to duplicate the object and apply the style to the topmost one. Is there a better way to do this, eg. can you save the pattern fill as a swatch? It doesn't seem to be possible to add new strokes to grouped objects. In illustrator for example, objects can have their own fill/stroke, and then be grouped and have new fills/strokes applied on the group level, all of which can be edited separately.

OH MY!!! Looking at these images I just now realize that this triangular shape in the middle is supposed to be a pencil drawing a line! I’ve never recognized it as that, the AD logo always just looked like an abstract triangular thing to me.
    mind → blown.

Exactly. It seems that everything has to be manually created on each page. Most disappointing.

Your point is well taken that text frames on a master page are not live on the actual page. What's the point of a master page then?

IvanDoganov reacted to jospo in Text overflow indication for linked text frames
    Hello,
just a suggestion – it would be great to somehow indicate that the text overflows the text frame especially when the "eye" icon is enabled to hide the overflowing text. For example make the "eye" icon red when there is more text that is hidden.
This can be useful as I don't need to double check if all lines fit into text frames.
    Thanks!

I love how Affinity Publisher turned out.
Can we except something similar to the Preflight panel in InDesign?
    Thanks for the hard work!

InDesign has the ability to add character-level styles to strings/patterns in paragraph styles, which is an extremely powerful and time-saving function. I would love to see this implemented in Publisher.
    Beta looks great so far!

Same here - I'm trying out this new soft, and so far GREP is the only one thing that I miss. Situation is quite similiar for publishing in polish. You have to put non breaking space on some stand alone characters, so they will be pushed into the new line. Would love to see this feature in Publisher :).

I’m so totally stoked about this beta. I have spent a couple hours poking around, and I can say that this beta is further along than I expected. I have high hopes that this will in time replace Indesign for us (a small publisher), and it looks well on track.
Among several features that wowed right away and other "missing features" that I can work around, the one thing that stood out for me is the lack of GREP searches. In Indesign, I have a small series of GREP searches that I have saved over the past years, and I run nearly everything through them. A couple minutes on a typical file, and I have made several hundred changes. When I work on a book, the changes are in the thousands. (Note: I publish in French, and French typography relies heavily on non-breaking spaces; these GREP searches help me rapidly put them where they ought to go.)
While you're there: being able to save the searches as presets would be ideal. And as not everyone is familiar with GREP, a few pre-saved searches would help provide them immediate use: remove multiple spaces, remove trailing space, etc.

IvanDoganov got a reaction from Opera in When will language versions be available?
It is very important to have a nice multi language support. If not for the interface, the dictionary support for as many languages as possible is critical. As I live in Bulgaria, we use Cyrillic, and the support for the Opentype subsets and other options is really important, if you want to produce a high quality documents. For me, the language support in Designer and Photo is a bit limited for non latin based languages, especially for Cyrillic. And the Cyrillic itself has a variations, e.g. Bulgarian is not the same as Russian, or Serbian and Macedonian. I can live with this in these programs, but for Publisher it will be a deal breaker.

A solution for implementing the Polish dictionary. Download the files downloaded from https://donate.libreoffice.org/home/dl/src/5.1.3/all/libreoffice-dictionaries-5.1.3.2.tar.xz?idx=2 and place them in the place shown in the screenshot. You can probably use this method for other languages.

I was wondering if a dimension tool is in the works for Designer. Something that designers/architects can use to label and indicate dimensions on drawings. For example, features such as CADTools ( a plug-in for illustrator), or the dimension tools in iDraw. I think such a tool will be a fantastic addition because I'm an architect and I think all designers of physical objects will probably appreciate it. But overall, I was wondering if such a tool was part of the planned future features roadmap.

Ok, Here are some videos to demonstrate all the snapping that I've added for handles.  Please note, I'm not talking about snapping to grid, I am talking about snapping to useful construction angles relative to the opposite curve point and handle.

So, the following snaps are shown:

    1) Snapping to smooth a cusped node - SnapToSmooth.mov
    2) Snapping to inline, and 90 degrees to inline - SnapToInlineAndNormal.mov
    3) Snapping to reflected angle - SnapToReflected.mov
    4) Snapping to parallel direction - SnapToParallel.mov
    5) Snapping to 90 degrees of parallel - SnapToParallelNormal.mov
    6) Snap to logical triangle (useful for square corners?) - SnapToTriangle.mov

The useful thing about these snaps is that they will enable you to perform common curve construction, completely independent of grid or set axis.  You can use them in tandem with a second action while holding Shift to snap the handle lengths to match the preceding or following handle (while maintaining the direction you already snapped).

Not sure if it would make sense to incorporate this into the vectorisation tool, but somehow I find it related:
VECTOR HALFTONE... would be a killer feature that even Adobe doesn't offer. It is possible to achieve this effect in illustrator with 3rd party plugins from Astute Graphics – heres a link:
    https://astutegraphics.com/software/phantasm/
This could be a dealbreaker feature for many...

    (iPad version too, please)

It would be SUPA-DUPA COOL to have this in our belowed Affinity Designer.

I have many of the Astute Plugins for Illustrator and it would really allow Serif to catch up and fill in glaring problems with Designer if they were able to license some of that tech. You look at the various forums and users pleading for offset path, better point reduction, improvements to the expand stroke, better more consistent booleans, users wanting something like the shape builder tool from Illustrator, the list goes on and on.

Yes, Illustrator is some 30 years old but Designer doesn't need to go 30 years to catch up to some of their features. Please, please make this happen. I would gladly pay more for Designer if it had these missing features, especially if it was powered with some of this AG tech.

Also, this is a smart move on Astute's part. There are so many vector apps popping up now, not just Affinity Designer, but other apps like Sketch, Gravit, Figma. I wonder too if their tech could be incorporated in some vector animation apps as well, like Harmony or Moho? Before they had just one revenue stream which was Adobe Illustrator users, but now, it could increase significantly.
