  1. I've just been trying some more settings. I've noticed that if I have the setting in the Develop Assistant set to Apply Tone Curve then this seems to increase the Chrominance noise. Setting it to take no effect seems to give me results closer to what I see in DPP. Is it possible that turning on the tone curve could cause the noise to increase in some way?

  2. I think that there is less noise once the image is developed, but it is hard to tell. The Canon DPP version is still better IMHO although it is possible that some other settings are affecting what I see. So if I ever was to use such extreme ISO then I would probably process first in DPP and then export to a TIFF and then open in Affinity.

Everything was done at 100% BTW.

Thanks for your help with this topic.

  3. Has anyone done any comparison between the RAW Noise Reduction in Affinity versus Camera Manufacturers' Software?

I did a simple test of a noisy image (taken at ISO 16000) using Affinity and Canon's DPP software. By default DPP sets Luminance to 11 and Chrominance to 14 (both out of a maximum of 20) so I used 55% and 70% in Affinity. At these settings the DPP image seems less noisy,

I then turned off all noise reduction in both and was surprised to see that the DPP image showed noticeably less noise.

Does anyone know why this happens? Perhaps Canon has more information about how its sensor works and uses this to improve noise reduction.

    Pete
