  1. Hello Walt, Thank you for your reply and you are again correct. First setting the "Left indent" and then the "First line indent" solve the problem. Maybe Serif should put first the "Left Indent" field and then "First line indent". I do not think it is a bug, because when doing it in your order, everything works fine. Chris
  2. I restarted the laptop and everything is fine again. Now indents start from the start of the text frame not the start of the page. However, I still do not expect the first line indent to change with the left indent. When I choose a value of 20 for the left indent, I expect the first line indent to be 0 and in that case, it should start at the same position as the left indent. Nevertheless, now I know it is easier to deal with. Chris
  3. Hi again, I just found another bug in this dialogue. If you change the "Left indent" field" then the value of "First line indent" changes too. In my case the value for First line indent became 10 when I changed Left Indent to 20. How can the First line indent value change when only changing the Left indent value? How will I ever get this job done in time? Chris
  4. Hi all, I just experienced very weird behaviour when setting text indents. First, place a text frame on the page. Then type some text which takes two or more rows just to see what I mean. Secondly, create a style for the text and set a left indent of 20 mm (can be any value). Thirdly, apply the text style to your text. You will see that Publisher count from the left edge to the page and indent 20 mm from there. I see clearly what happens because my text frame has a blue background. In fact, I took a rounded rectangle and just converted it to a text frame. In my opinion, the indent should start from the left side of the text frame. Which in this case is clearly not the case. I find this a serious bug or flawed thinking of the development team. Anybody else experiences this or if you disagree with me, feel free. Chris
  5. I completely agree with 2mi about Publisher. Very nice job done for the Affinity team. A colleague of mine told me that in her opinion, Designer and Photo are for professionals, Publisher is for hobbyists. She cannot be more wrong. The integration with Designer and Photo makes the whole suite very powerfull. With Publisher, we have a complete graphic studio at our fingertips to create our documents and artworks. Do I have other wishes? Yes, I do have. But for the moment, I am still too busy to learn the ins and outs of Publisher. If I can make some suggestions myself these are the ones : Graphics, illustrations, photo's, icons which are flowing with the text. However, pinning them works fine for me. A knife tool in Publisher, Designer and Photo. Mailmerge based on a database (SQLite or XML) Saving directly to the cloud (Google Drive, OneDrive,...) I am glad I am an Affinity user from the first second. No other application let me do what Affinity let me do. It is a pleasure to use and I do not look back to the Plus range. I am sure in the years to come, we will see a lot of innovations and improvements in the Affinity range. Nice work Affinity Team! A job very well done. Chris
  6. Thank you Walt, your guess was correct. In my base style (this is the style I base all other styles on) inside the "Position & Transform" section, I selected "No break". That was responsible for the continued text outside the text frame. From the moment that was deselected, the text ran fine. I appreciate your support very much. Have a nice day. Chris
  7. I have a text frame (not artistic text) on my document. When I type text when it reaches the right border of the frame it just continues outside the text frame. I assume that this is a bug because text should go to another line when reaching the horizontal end of the frame. Anybody else experiences this problem and a possible workaround? Thank you very much for your help. Chris
  8. I replied years back on this thread. I am still using Atlantis Wordprocessor for typing long text. Even when it has to be imported in Jutoh, I use Atlantis. For people also interested in creating ebooks, you can create an epub directly from your text in Atlantis. When then copying or importing your text in Publisher, you have an epub and printed version at the same time. When your styles created in Publisher are well and carefully thought out, you will deliver nice documents without too many efforts. Needless to say, planning and creating your styles is essential and can be complex at times. Chris
  9. I am very sure 50 euro is a very affordable and good price for such a product like Publisher. As a registered user of Publisher, you will get a discount when there is a major update. At least, this was the case with the Plus range. However, I will gladly pay full price for a major update even when it is next year. I really fail to see why asking 40 euro a year for an update will be a slap in the face. Are you serious? When you create a business card for a customer today, will you still update that card over one year for free? That is your answer. If you do not want to pay for software, then you have to go the open source route. I do that for Blender but decided to support them every month by getting a subscription. From the money their customers pay them, they support the development. The same is true for Serif. Implementing new features will cost a lot of money, which has to come from their sales. By the way, I paid for 2 Designer, 2 Photo and 2 Publisher licenses despite the fact we are also operating from Botswana. When we decided on the Affinity Suite, we were not bothered about the price but if we could use it or not. We just bought a license from the very beginning of those applications and start using them. We did not regret our choice for one moment. I had a discussion a few weeks ago with a colleague which claimed that Designer and Photo were for professionals (she started using those a few months ago), but that Publisher was just for amateurs (she does not use Publisher). I do not understand why people get that perception, but Publisher together with Designer and Photo are aimed at the professional market. Anyway, I create nice things with the whole suite. That is what counts in the end.
  10. Affinity Publisher does not have a brush tool. So you can only use brushes in Designer. Maybe you can draw your line with the brush tool in Designer and then import it into Publisher? Chris
  11. A dedicated epub/kindle creation tool like Jutoh, will always do a better job. The whole structure of such tools is based around epub/kindle creation. Adding book sections/pages is very much different than Publisher like tools. It is possible to drag maps, pages just to another position. Store research items, ideas and other information into the "Scraps" map and it will not be visible in the final book. Also, Jutoh delivers much cleaner epub code than Publisher/Indesign/PagePlus will ever do. There is so much more control over the finished ebook in Jutoh, the others can never deliver. Is Jutoh perfect? No, it isn't, but it is the best tool for creating epub/kindle ebooks. Chris
  12. Hi Israel, On this moment, it is not possible directly to create epub digital books with Publisher. Maybe in the future, it will be possible but not now. I do not know if it is possible for you but when you can create your original files in .docx format and import them in Publisher, you can from the same source create an ebook. Use Heading 1, heading2, heading 3 and in your ebook creation software import them with "Heading 1" as page or section separator. Where you want another page, you can also choose for a specific character combination like "######". In your ebook program you set then "######" as your page separator. I am using Jutoh as my ebook creation software and Atlantis Wordprocessor / WPS office as wordprocessor/ Office replacement. To be honest, I do not see how a desktop publishing program as Publisher/InDesign can deliver good epub or other format digital ebooks. Publisher is created mostly for printed documents with a fixed layout. Applications like Jutoh are designed for reflowable ebooks. I think it is best to use the right tools for the job. The legacy PagePlus could create also epubs, but I never used that option because there is much better and more precise control over your ebook in applications like Jutoh. If you ask me to create a physical book, I will use Publisher because it does a much better job as Jutoh or any other ebook creation application. But I admit, if it would be possible, it will be nice to do it all in Publisher. However, don't count on it. Chris
  13. A job well done and you are a good ambassador for Affinity Publisher. Look at and read your hands out made with Publisher. A clear, informative and interesting design with a kind of humour at the right place. Maybe a good suggestion for our pastors (Apostolic Faith Mission Gaborone). They can preach for hours and sometimes the meaning got lost (they translate from Setswana to English which can be confusing). I am sure your congregation appreciate because sometimes we all need higher support and having written library can help at times a pastor is not available. Please, can I sent your PDF document to our church to clarify the idea? Do you know that Burbanks is Gaborone's sister city in the US? The relationship between the two cities started by a US student coming to Botswana in the seventies. There is a movie on Youtube which is very interesting because such relationships bring peace and friendship among people of a different culture. That is what we need more in this world. Thank you again for sharing and your nice thoughts on Affinity. Chris
  14. Some people seem to have a very selective memory. I knew from day one, that the old plus range would never be supported by Affinity. Until early this year, DrawPlus and PagePlus were on this laptop, while I switched to Affinity Windows from day one it became available. Now the legacy products are no longer on this laptop and I do not miss them. Everything which was important was recreated years ago and new drawings I used Affinity for. I cannot understand why Affinity would be wasted money? I agree with Guyon, use Affinity for new publications. You are used to the Plus range and to be honest, when switching years ago, I also had my learning curve. Many times the temptation to use DrawPlus instead of Designer was great. However, I did not give in to this feeling and moved on. I asked a lot of (stupid) questions on this community when I really got in trouble. Now I am glad I did and changed. If you really find Affinity a waste of money, follow Alfred his advice and go for a refund. Serif will rather prefer to give you a refund than having an unhappy customer. It is your decision, move forward with Affinity, stay behind with the legacy Plus range or ask for a refund. Anyway, I am a very happy Affinity user. Despite my limited drawing skills, Affinity let me draw in ways it would be impossible otherwise. Chris
  15. You are correct, you cannot import or open any of your PagePlus files directly into Publisher. You can make a PDF from your PagePlus documents and then import them into Publisher. If you master PagePlus, you can also learn Publisher. There are many good tutorials to start with. It is better to switch to the Affinity range than staying with the retired Plus range. There comes the point in time that something will be broken and the Plus range becomes useless. I did not regret that I changed to the Affinity range from point zero. I never looked back to any of the applications from the Plus range. Starting over from scratch again, can also have its advantages. You can customise yourself with Affinity and maybe can improve some of your techniques and methods. Chris
  16. True for me too, when pushing the Designer or Photo persona, I am asked to buy and install Designer and Photo. But I did not restart after the installation. I am sure it will be solved. Chris
  17. Thank you, Affinity team, for your hard work to bring us, Publisher. I tried Publisher when it was in beta and liked it on first sight. Bought already two licences, one for myself and the other to be used here in Gaborone Botswana. Publisher completes Designer and Photo for me and believes me; I will use it daily. After years of doubting, I decided a few weeks ago to start my own multimedia company here in Botswana. Affinity made this possible for me because I can work in the way I prefer. The keynote was great despite the fact that here in this African household, it was hard to follow with all the noise, interruptions and slow internet. Luckily I can watch it tomorrow again. Thank you again, Affinity team, for creating excellent graphics applications. Your efforts are truly appreciated. Chris
  18. I am using the premier version of Grammarly. Works nice and easy.
  19. What I do is keep the former setup.exe files just in case. Upgrading when a new version becomes available has its advantages and also disadvantages. The big advantage is that you master the newly integrated features before those users who decide to wait. The disadvantage is that you also receive the beatings and stings by possible bugs. But once you found a workaround or those bugs are fixed, you are ahead again to the waiting people. By the way, I did not regret my update to the 1.7 versions of Affinity. Chris
  20. I am using Screencast-o-Matic (the paid version) which was recommended by an Udemy instructor. I also use Blueberry FlashBack (advanced Screen recording and editing) and FastStone Screencapture (mainly taking still screencaptures but can also record screens). FlashBack and Faststone Screencapture however are not free. However the Faststone solution cost around 19 Euro for an unlimted version. I like all 3 products which are complementing each other. Chris
  21. When removing the 1.7 version from your computer and then using the old .1.6 installer version, would that do not the trick? This is just out of the top of my head because I did not do it myself. Hope this works. Chris
  22. Hello everyone, Thank you all who replied and helped me out. I appreciate your input and you solved my problem. Because "TVL" was the last word, I expected it to be the extension. So I looked in the wrong way. Like Walt assumed, the extensions showing was off. A month ago I reformatted and installed Windows 7 again and did not select the option to show the extensions. I already successfully opened a template so everything is working fine. The Affinity community full of friendly and helpful people and I like to be around here very much. Chris
  23. Hi again, I looked up the ".TVL" format but found out that it has to do with paying American taxes. I came to the website of Intuit TurboTax but didn't seem to have what I am looking for. I am wondering why those people use the ".TVL" format to distribute templates for Affinity Designer. The templates I bought are : iconic-templates-affinity-designer emblem-templates-affinity-designer If I need another application on Windows to do something with these files, please can you recommend one which does not bundleware? Thank you very much for your help. Chris
  24. Hello everyone, Can you please help me with the following problem? I just bought templates from the Serif Affinity Store for Designer. Those templates are in ".TVL" format. I searched but cannot find anything about how to use these templates. I am using Affinity Designer 1.7 for Windows. Can you please tell me how to use these .TVL files so I can use the templates. Thank you very much for your help, which is truly appreciated. Have a nice day. Chris
  25. Hi Andréas, I had kind of the same issue when I downloaded and tried to install Designer. However, I found out that the downloaded file was only a few kb. I repeated the download and then I could successfully install Designer. Size of the setup file is around 357 or 387 MB (can be a bit more or less). Hope you find a solution to your problem soon. Chris
