  1. Hi Walt, that is so obvious it is hilarious I didn't even think of it. I almost never touch the Start menu anymore, I just have desktop shortcuts to what I use most and Start menu tiles for lesser opened software. The links in the Start menu work fine! I have pinned them to the Taskbar now and those links work fine too. Thank you so much for your prompt assistance and reminding me to go back to basics when there is an issue. I used to be the one helping everyone else, 10 years ago. Things have run so smoothly for so many years that I rarely have to troubleshoot anything at all these days. Have a wonderful Christmas. 🙂
  2. Hi EmT, I am so sorry for not responding until now. I have not been into these forums since posting my message and I just saw the notification bell. I reached a point where everything had to be opened from the files themselves (right-click and Open with...) or dragged and dropped and I got used to this. Now, after update 2.0.3, none of my software opens at all if using the desktop shortcuts (even after creating new shortcuts pointing to the updated files, which should be done automatically by any professionally written piece of software). I have to keep the software installation files (all 1.73GB of them) and click on those. This results in a dialog box appearing saying the software is already installed and asking if I want to reinstall or launch. Choosing launch actually works. Alternatively, I can still right-click on files and choose Open with and that does launch the software. Very annoying when I want to open, say Publisher, and create a new document.
  3. Just adding to the above.... I could not do an uninstall as there is no mention of the software in Programs and Features, so I reinstalled 2.0 without uninstalling anything. That version would no longer open either, so I updated to 2.0.3 again and still no luck. The fact that this program does not even update its desktop shortcuts after performing a version update (which renames files, causing the old shortcuts to stop working) is a real amateur hack. Who would program applications to break their shortcuts with every program update.. which is exactly what Affinity software does. Now I know why I used Corel and Adobe for decades. They work and they keep working after updates. I am super frustrated now after wasting so much time on this nonsense software.
  4. All 3 programs (Photo 2, Designer 2 and Publisher 2) were opening just fine when first installed. After an update to 2.0.3 the original desktop application shortcuts stopped working and so I created new shortcuts to the updated versions of the software. These do not work! The actual .exe files in the program folders do not work! This is absolutely unacceptable and is definitely the last time I ever buy this software. Now, the ONLY way I can open my software is by clicking on the actual installation files. That results in a dialog box opening, saying the software is already installed... and asking if I want to reinstall or launch? Clicking 'launch' actually works. This means I need about 1.6GB of files sitting on my desktop that I do not want there!!! just to be able to use the software I paid for.
  5. Thanks for responding, David. It must be something going on with my computer. I can right click/open with or drag and drop, but not open. I have now tested EOS RP and EOS R raw files and get the same result. It would appear I cannot use the Open command to open any Canon raw files.
  6. I just tried one more thing: instead of pressing File>Open and then selecting my file, I simply dragged my file into Affinity Photo 2 and it opened just fine! Not only that, all 4 raw types open just fine using this method. Although I would prefer to be able to "Open" a file, dragging and dropping is fine. Problem solved.
  7. Whenever I open a raw file from my Canon R7, the program is blank for around 20 seconds, the busy cursor appears and then the program crashes (closes). The R7 has 4 possible raw files and I have tried them all, with the same result. There is raw, raw HDR PQ, cRaw and cRaw HDR PQ. This is so frustrating as I was really curious if the Develop module has been improved at all (one Youtuber said it has). Affinity 1 used to crash with my Canon R7 files too. I have attached a normal raw file for anyone to test on their system. Thank you. IMG 9999_1.CR3
  8. Fantastic, thanks very much R C-R, that is exactly what I was looking for. Have a great day!! 🙂
  9. Hi everyone, If I open an adjustment (or live filter) such Curves, make an adjustment and click on "Add Preset" .... how do I access that preset when I open a new image? There is only an Add Preset button, but no button or menu item at all (that I can find) to access those presets to apply to other images.
  10. My Google Nik Collection was installed to the plug-ins folder of an older version of Photoshop (the last one I bought before they went to a subscription model). I used to have Affinity linked to that Plug-in folder. When Affinity Photo 1.9 started crashing constantly with the Nik Collection, I tried Photoshop and that too crashed using Google Nik Collectio, which it has never done before!! I copied the plug-ins to Affinity Photo's own Plug-in folder and deleted the link to the Photoshop Plug-ins folder and then Affinity Photo 1.9 started working fine with Google Nik Collection. I have not checked to see if Photoshop works again now, or not.
  11. I just uninstalled Affinity Photo 1.9 with the intention of installing 1.8.5 again, which worked flawlessly. Instead, I decided to reinstall 1.9 as a clean install (previously it was installed as an upgrade to 1.8.5). Well, I have tried most of the things that were causing issues in my previous post and they all seemed to be resolved. Silver Effex Pro 2 is now working flawlessly again and I can complete the job I am working on. I am really happy now and hope this works for others. Later I need to check why none of the Affinity suite will open at all on another laptop. If I get it figured out I will let you know. Have a great day everyone. :--)
  12. Hi everyone, I am using Windows and not MacOS, but what worked for me may work for you, if you are having issues with the Nik Collection. I installed Affinity Photo 1.9 as an update to 1.8.5 and had all sorts of issues, including the Nik Collection (the free version when Google owned it) crashing. I uninstalled Affinity Photo and then installed it again as a clean installation (it was not updating an older version) and now everything seems to be working well. I hope this works for you. 🙂
  13. Hi Tony, I didn't have your exact issues, but I was having a lot of issues with Affinity Photo 1.9. I originally installed it as an update to 1.8.5 and after all the issues I uninstalled it with the intention of installing 1.8.5 again, like you did. Instead, I decided to reinstall 1.9 (as a fresh install this time and not an upgrade to 1.8.5). Now it it is working great, so far. I quickly tried most of the things that were crashing it for me and they are all working fine. Now to find out why none of the 3 Affinity programs will even open at all on another laptop LOL.
  14. I am having all sorts of issues with 1.9 too. Previously, Affinity Photo was flawless. Literally NEVER crashed. Now, it crashes almost every time I try to edit one image. It crashes during these operations: adjusting transparency of a layer, the application just vanishes and has to be started again. when applying a Gaussian blur to a layer mask- if I move the slider more than about 3 times to fine tune the amount of blur, poof! The application vanishes. I was just using the Inpainting Brush to remove some blemishes from a model's face and the application just vanished. I did not get a recovery image either, which I do with the other crashes. on one laptop the application will not open at all. I get the splash screen for about 2 seconds and then it vanishes. The program has not opened and is not shown in Task Manager. This happens with Affinity Publisher and Designer too, both of which I just recently purchased. I have been using the Google Nik Collection (previous Nik filters when it was free) and it has always worked flawlessly until Affinity Photo 1.9. Now it locks up Affinity upon launching (launching Silver Effex Pro 2 ) and I have to force-close everything. Affinity Photo was the most reliable photo editor I have ever used at 1.7 and 1.8. It literally NEVER crashed. It is now the least reliable photo editor I have used. It is literally unusable. I have been retouching a series of images for a model, giving her a colour and greyscale version of each selected image. I cannot produce the greyscale images anymore, now that Affinity Photo 1.9 has decided it won't let Silver Effex Pro 2 work anymore. I had a specific greyscale 'custom' preset which cannot easily be reproduced in any other software. This has totally stuffed me up and I cannot deliver what I promised. It looks like the subscription I used to have for Photoshop was probably worth it after all. At least it was reliable and did not cause major issues like I am experiencing now.
  15. Why is Affinity (Serif?) being so casual and non-committal with this? We buy your software because you tell us how good it is and then you don't support the cameras we buy. The M50 has been out for quite some time now and people have been requesting file support for 6 months for this camera. I am disgusted that Affinity has no sense or urgency to make people's files usable. I think I'll do what others have done and go back onto a Lightroom/Photoshop subscription. At least Adobe allows us to use our files without going through hoops first. I am totally unimpressed. I also bought On1 Raw Photo 2019 and that is just as bad. Subscriptions are clearly the way to go if one wishes to be kept up-to-date with software. A lot of people are going to realise this.
  16. Hi everyone, I am new to this software and forum. I was looking at the Perspective tool in the photo app and it is not really a perspective tool from what I can see. A proper perspective tool uses mathematical calculations. For example, I have a cityscape and the buildings are leaning slightly inwards from tilting the camera upward. A proper perspective tool will make the buildings taller as they straighten vertically to correct "perspective". Either I am doing something wrong or the Perspective tool in the photo app merely distorts an image by dragging corner nodes of a grid? That is not perspective correction... that is a "distort the image and take a guess as to how it should look" tool. This tool relies on the user dragging each top corner node outwards to straighten the buildings vertically (guessing by eye) and also expects the user to pull the nodes upwards (again guessing by eye) to keep the real shape of the buildings or they end up too short for their widths. To make matters worse, as you drag a corner node the entire grid warps so that you can't even use the grid a as a reference to see if the buildings are actually vertical. Trying to judge by eye whether or not the buildings are parallel to the edges of the image itself while being mesmerised by a load of leaning grid lines is both inaccurate and insane. It would be great to have a proper perspective tool as this is a very used tool by photographers.
