DTP is something I use to support my business of 35 years in video production. Previously my DTP was on an old version of Quark running on XP. It has been obvious from recent issues I encountered in Publisher that my older work flows need tuning for Publisher. I am very grateful for the help advice and support from the forum and Serif. Rasterising. Previously my experience of rasterising was limited to taking a show title from a poster, designed by a "real" designer", rasterising the font and then using it in the video promo or TV ad. In Publisher all layers can be rasterised at print stage, so why rasterise an individual layer. It seems that once an individual layer is rasterised there is no turning back? With regard to RGB imports into a CYMK document, should all assets be in either RGB or CYMK...back to video graphics where some CYMK imports cause issues when working in an RGB enviroment?

Many Thanks Dan for your continued help. I can see and understand the changes made and then tried as you suggested printing with Clip Transparency ticked. All was good except the bottom grey text box on the "back", where the grey was shaded to the right hand side of the box. I then reprinted ticking rasterise entire page, and all was well. If I was my client I would say I was a PIA!!

Yes. I'm used to working with alpha channels, so could eaily check the logo and switch off the BG. I'm not sure there isnt some sort of corruption. I deleted the file and then replaced it and it seems OK again. Thanks Dan have uploaded. My intention is to possibly add show pics to the front. It's a tough one due to the number of pieces in the show and the dedication. I may well be doing something very wrong but I have been using an old version of Quark on my XP PC until I switched to the Publisher beta and never encountered any problem ( on Win 7 Pro) The pdf hangs printing from Acrobat and from Affinity Pub or Photo is screwed. Photoshop rasterises the import and is OK.

Thank You for your assistance. On the "proper" document it only partially worked. Even the DVD logo a png with alpha has the grey box as well as another area. Worse I made a 300dpi print pdf - that refused to print from Acrobat. It froze flattening at 43%. However printing document from Publisher, ticking the rasterize entire page, does seem to work. Have to go into London for meeeting so will continue this afternoon.

PC - Publisher 1.7.2.471 It started last week with a png but now a text frame. This is a stripped down DVD sleeve When previewed the project looks fine but when printed the backgound behind the middle text frame is discoloured. If I switch the shadow off all is good. On the "proper" document it's screwed in odd places, like the spine and DVD logo. Test project attached. MORE INFO. i dont want to shout BUG. I see that too often on my Video editing forum , when it is blatant user error. HOWEVER I exported the "proper" document to psd. I imported the psd into Photoshop CS3 and it printed fine. In Publisher the same psd when printed is screwed with darkened backgrounds on the text frames. If I'm doing something wrong please tell me else I will shout BUG. Printer is Brother HL-L8260CDW but its the same on my older HP. WTF.afpub

Essex Boy confusion alert! I'm designing a DVD sleeve. I am using a stock background which is a png. All text frames etc are in place DVD logo etc. There is a Black Silhouette logo of a dancer. I have removed logo background 100% The alpha is perfect (tested in my video editing software) In Publisher in preview, it looks fine, when printed the backgound of the whole of the "dancer" frame has a colour cast. It gets better. If I use A/Photo and use the sleeve background with the same logo over the top it prints fine. Am I missing something?

I’m an occasional DTP user, creating flyers, price lists and DVD sleeves for my main business of Video Production. I come from an old version of Quark. As with Photo, learning the differences to Photoshop, I’m doing the same with Publisher. I’m confused as to the correct way to put a border on a text frame. In Quark it’s a right click to Modify and then a choice of Borders. As I start to redesign my Quark projects in Publisher, last week, using a picture frame with a text frame, they linked and would reposition together but today on a new project this is not happening without me grouping the layers. Can someone point me to the correct way of having a text frame linked with a border. As a secondary question In Quark there are a variety of Borders – ie thin-thick- thin. As Publisher is currently limited for choice, can someone point me to a “Border resource”?

This may well be user error but a search hasn't pointed me towards an answer. I have used an old Quark for the odd bits of DTP I do, for many years. Using last weeks update, I drew 2x 5cm parallel lines -2pt, to "highlight" some text. Displays correctly but prints like its 30pt and a dash looks like a string of sausages. i EDIT: THIS WAS USER ERROR- lines deleted and replaced and now print OK. I will try to recreate sometime.

Export to .BMP

+1 for adding BMP and TGA - I was amazed it wasn't added. Went to make a B&W video mask on my laptop which needs to be a BMP or TGA and then discovered it was not there. Really p'd off having resave in Paint. -
In my world of Video, Affinity LACKS Pixel Aspect Ratio, unlike PS, so everything has to be in square pixels. Whilst most Full HD is square pixels, everything else including HDV and some Panasonic 1440x1080 broadcast formats use a 1.33 pixel aspect ratio. EXAMPLE: making a menu for DVD in PAL widescreen (16x9) 720x576 PAR 1.422 - in Affinity this would be done as 1024x576 which is 1:1 = square. 4x3 PAL has a PAR 1.067 so 768x576 is used. Many designers never need or know of PAR! As for the original post do you mean Aspect ratio, or simply resize? Resizing KEEPING with an original aspect or keep AR locked will keep a circle round. ie changing 1000 x 1000 to 100 x 100 but if you unlock and change to 1000 x 100 you will have an image that has been through grannie's mangle! Cropping gives you a selective portion.
