Mithferion got a reaction from danilo in Curated list of Free for Commercial Use Fonts
Hi!
Some Typefaces get updated over time and expanded as well. That's the case for the Ubuntu Typeface and it's presented as Ubuntu Sans. It now has 16 styles for the normal width and 16 for the Condensed version. It's available in the GutHub repo:
Direct download link: https://github.com/canonical/Ubuntu-Sans-fonts/releases/tag/v1.004 Very good news for those who use it and love it.
Best regards!

Mithferion got a reaction from Return in Curated list of Free for Commercial Use Fonts
Thanks!
Well, this is something I started doing in 2017 and I still update the Topic once in a while (shortly I will do so, by the way).
I'm glad this is of use.
Best regards!

Mithferion got a reaction from Alfred in Curated list of Free for Commercial Use Fonts
Hi!
Fonts that are being published under the SIL Open Font License can be considered the "safest", meaning that you can create Documents, Logos, Images or Videos with them with no worries at all, which are the main things you could create as a designer. But other free Fonts can include such terms and rights so that's why they can be just as safe to use. For example, I can consider that Ilisarniq's License is safe to use for Design purposes (see the EULA section).
But still, Fonts that are not freely available under the SIL Open Font License could include some kind of limitations, it's best to take a look at what they allow you to do.
Hope that helps.
Best regards!

Mithferion reacted to Alfred in Curated list of Free for Commercial Use Fonts
Thanks for the clarification. As far as I’m aware, in terms of “legal safety” with regard to commercial use, there is no difference. Free fonts are freely available for use; open source fonts can also be modified and redistributed by the user, which is not generally true of fonts or other computer software.

Mithferion got a reaction from The Artifex Forge in Curated list of Free for Commercial Use Fonts
Glad you liked the post! I have done research and comparisons for over a year, and I came up with this list.
I updated it so that it is a richer Topic. Also, I might as well add more Fonts to the list.
Best regards!

Mithferion got a reaction from JhonatanS in Size / Rotate objects to same
I believe this has been requested before: In the case of the Desktop version, having a Panel dedicated for this alignment actions would be better than the current Dropdown option. Still, nice additions.

Mithferion reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Designer 2 for Windows - (2.4.0 & 2.4.1)
We are pleased to announce an update for the Windows release of Affinity Designer 2, version 2.4.0
This build is available as a (sandboxed) MSIX application installer and as an (unsandboxed) MSI/EXE traditional installer.
Please see this FAQ thread for instructions on how to access the unsandboxed MSI/EXE version.
The changes in Affinity Designer 2 for Windows 2.4.0 are listed in this FAQ forum post:
Those are the changes made since the last release Affinity Designer 2 for Windows 2.3.1
A subsequent release 2.4.1 is announced here
To get notified when any new releases are made please follow the latest releases thread by clicking here
UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (which is free for all V2 users)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in Help > About Affinity Designer ).
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store — each time you start the Affinity Store software it will check for updates and offer any available update. The Windows builds only automatically checks once per day. In the Help menu there is a manual "Check for Updates". The latest update will install over the top of any earlier version, with no need to uninstall. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "Download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Publisher for Windows) can be downloaded from this link (those installers are NOT for customers who made Microsoft Store purchases).
If you've purchased from the Microsoft Store — Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.

Mithferion got a reaction from Paul Mudditt in Pseudo-Arc Tool using the Donut Tool + Point Transform Tool
Hi there!
I was remembering this Feature request where there is a video demo of the required functionality, and while I still think this would be a great addition I asked myself: could this possibly be done right now? And it can, sort of. See video below:
Pseudo-ArcTool-Demo.mp4 As you can see, after you set the Donut Tool, you can switch between it and the Point Transform Tool to create the curves.
The bad:
You need to switch constantly between Tools There is no snapping to any intersecting line You have to delete segments to have a single line in the curved line BUT I think the good news is that:
It can be done It's fun I hope this encourages the Devs to spend some time in it given that it doesn't seem to be that far away Best regards!

Mithferion reacted to juanmanuel in DWG and DXF Export
This is heaven sent for incorporating monochrome vector silhouette clip art into AutoCAD. Previously, the least painful workflow was through inkscape dxf export, but fill information was not transferred. (pdf route was useless). So it was necessary to recreate the solid fill, which could be a nightmare experience (imagine a realistic silhouette of a tree). Now, as long as it is a solid, it pretty much exports correctly. There is some slight loss of detail, which I am assuming has to do with drawing scale. Which for reference scales is not a real issue. Will experiment more to see if quality improves with scale.
Anyway, this feature makes my life much easier, thanks!

I could have called this Many hands (and feet) make light work. We're all getting browned off with Artificial Intelligence stealing copyright works. I thought it was time I made a stand and made my own AI image. In this case, it probably means Astonishing Inaccuracies.

Mithferion got a reaction from Petr Bajer in Make Baseline Grid Manager accessible by design
In my opinion, in short:
- This feature, added in Designer, wouldn’t make both apps to compete.
Best regards!
P. S.: By the way, as a lottle advice: be passionate, but don’t let your passion overflows through the keyboard. Make your reason keep your “fire” in check.
-
Mithferion got a reaction from Petr Bajer in Make Baseline Grid Manager accessible by design
And I am supporting your idea.
Whay I meant was that "A" is in Photo and not in Designer because they try to make the apps focus on specific tasks. And I say that this feature would fit in Designer and Publisher, without hurting the logic of "focusing on specific tasks", and it makes perfect sense to me.
I've read some of your other posts and I find things that make a lot of sense (haven't commented because sometimes I don't have the time and forget to write), and I encourage anyone to make this better for the greater good of Serif and their users (current and future). Also, yeah, I try to contribute with this little advice.
Best regards!

Mithferion got a reaction from Petr Bajer in Make Baseline Grid Manager accessible by design
I believe so. And as you said, it'd be an advantage of Designer over Illustrator, not over Publisher, wich is a good thing to allure potential clients (boviously, you have to show it off), in a similar fashion when Serif added the Pixel Persona, instead of making those Raster tools an exclusive thing of Photo.
So, let's hope we all can agree on the greater benefits for this addition.
Best regards!

Thank you very much for your suggestion, unfortunately this is currently out of the scope for 2.4, however I will pass your suggestion onto development.

Thanks for the kind gesture, but for security reasons we cannot be seen to be distributing DLL files with all the security concerns that entails, (particularly as it is not Digitally Signed). I have removed it from our forums.
