Hello @Jo Martin and welcome to the forums. Could you tell us what Operating System you are using and where you purchased your Affinity program from? This information helps enormously in troubleshooting. One possibility is that you are using Haredware Accelleration with an incompatible Graphics card. If you give us the details above we can help tell you how to fix this. John

Extension Support ?
John Rostron replied to paidbuy's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
@paidbuy, If you mean plugins, then Affinity Photo supports many, but not all, Photoshop plugins. It only supports those with an .8bf extension, and only those which operate on a single image layer. What plugins do you have? Members here should be able to advise if they work with Affinity Photo. John -
You do not say which App you are using. I would think that Designer would be the most appropriate. To get identical circles, first create one circle of the desired size. Then select this circle and copy it (Control/Command-J). Now move the copy horizontally using the Shift-right-arrow button on your keyboard. Do the same to create and position the lower circle using the down-arrow. I leave it to others to advise you how to get the desired colours. John

@AffinityLover, you do not say what the scanning resolution is for your images. (This is not the same as the dpi in the scanned image.) Most flatbed scanners can scan at 4000 pixels per inch. If you use such large, hi-res scan, then rotate/straighten, then resize to a more convenient size, you may avoid the jaggies. John

Hello @Nikonshooter, and welcome to the forums. Affinity Photo will provide all you need for processing your macro photos. In particular, there are the sharpening tools: Unsharp Mask and Clarity, and the Focus Stacking (or Focus Merging tools. I will see if I can dig out a few examples for you with what I recollect of the procedures I used. I'm not convinced that presets would be all that relevant here. John

Use Document > Resize Canvas, unlock the aspect ratio link and enter H in both the width and height boxes. This will give a square canvas with your image centred. Or for a landscape image enter W in each box. The problem is that this will not work as a macro. If you try it, then you get the dimensions of the image you used to create the macro. Fine if everything is the same height. John

Does OS change require new license?
John Rostron replied to luis garcia's topic in Customer Service, Accounts and Purchasing
Hello @bharatand welcome to the forums. Yes, your licence will work on any Windows machine that you own or control. Did you buy it from Serif direct or from the Microsoft Store? This will affect how you do your new install. John -
The best lens for this kind of work is one optimised for close-up work. An enlarging lens is optimised for prints much larger than the film (hence the name). Why not use a good macro lens? However for the price of a good macro lens, you could buy a good film scanner. It would have the advantage of a more convenient workflow as well as optimised software. For my slide collection, I used Nikon scanners (currently a Coolscan LS50 )and both VueScan and SilverFast. At present the PlusTec scanners are well regarded. John

Hello @Arjan, and welcome to the forums. What operating system are you using? What version of Affinity Photo are you using. Have you read the thread about installing Nik Collection 4? John

Hello @andersen55, and welcome to the forums. For any image you first need to see which of the foreground or the background has the most complexity or colour range. In your case it would be the background were it not for the stem which looks to be the same shades as the background. Begin by duplicating your image, then hiding the original. Now use the magic wand tool to select colours in the background. You may wish to adjust the tolerance to suit your needs. You might also wish to to remove the selections as you proceed and clear the selection so far (using Control/Command-D). Or you might want to do as @Joachim_L suggests. His reply just pipped me. John

Hello @topcat_1966, and welcome to the forums. There could be many reasons for these plugins not working. The first that springs to mind is that most do not work with 32-bit images. Some only work with 8-bit images. If this does not solve your problem, perhaps you could supply a recording or screenshot of what happens when you try a plugin. John

I have not used it for the Affinity apps; they were installed on D:\ from the word go. Application Mover will move directories, typically the one containing the program files. It will not move the AppData unless you tell it to (which I do not). It does change any registry data to ensure that this now points to the moved locations. John

Macro function for save and close
John Rostron replied to hy13's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
With a Batch job, you can set it to: Open a set of files; Run one or more macros on the loaded images; Save the modified images in the format of your choice in a folder of your choice. See this help file. John -
affinity photo Helga the Conqueror
John Rostron replied to Frozen Death Knight's topic in Share your work
An impressive piece of artwork. However, I would have thought that the first requirement for a female barbarian warrior would be a well-fitting bra. John -
Affinity designer 1.9.2.1035 not working/won't start
John Rostron replied to Dune's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
A solution that often works is to disable Hardware Accelleration. (Edit > Preferences > Performance). Untick the box that says Enable OpenGL compute accelleration. John -
My guess is that the original source image was missing the area on the left, so the Focus merging algorithm made a guess as to what should be there and that is what you see in the 'source' as displayed. As I said, this foible is inherent in the focus merging process which is why I suggested you give your subject more room in the field of view. John
