  1. I must admit adobe kinda knocked it out the park with the mobile version of illustrator. I love the way all the most common functions appear beneath the selected items. It makes it so much easier than rooting around in various panels and sub panels, and yes of course auto closing lines, why would you not ;)
I think this was Adobe saying ‘we see what you are doing Serif’ and we raise you :) I look forward to seeing how the guys at serif respond. A little healthy competition is good for everyone.

  2. First up have to say that I love the affinity suite of products. I am currently in the process of switching from mac to windows as a lot of my work is headed toward motion graphics and 3d. I have a lot of software that I use on a daily basis and have fortunately found that the vast majority of them have cross platform licensing which means that I don’t have to re-purchase the software for the windows platform. It would be great if the Affinity suite could do something similar. I realise that this is not currently possible but I hope that it is something that you will consider. Or at least in the meantime if there was some discount that you could offer to customers who already own the affinity suite on the mac and are look to purchase it again for windows.

    many thanks

  3. Hi @Murfee

thanks for your reply. Yep edits made in publisher don’t change the linked files :) I was a little concerned that when we make certain photo edits  in publisher that the files become rasterised at the document resolution e.g if you import a 300 dpi image and scale it down to 50%  (effectively now 600dpi) and then switch to photo and clone something out in publisher it rasterises that image so that it’s now a new image that is 300dpi @ 100% .so if you later decide that you need to scale it back up to the size of the original linked image then you will find that it is really now 150dpi @ 200%.

it’s certainly not a dealbreaker, and many photo edits will be live effects so they wouldn’t be rasterised, but I would recommend that any major retouching should probably still be done to the original file in photo rather than on the page in publisher. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts :)

  4. I know what you're gonna say "StudioLInk!" You don't need to open it in photo you can edit it directly in publisher… it's Awesome!! And it is BUT when we edit images in Publisher I am pretty sure that it rasterises them and embeds them into publisher at the resolution that they appear in the document. Whereas a lot of times I will want to retouch the original image at the original resolution and resave it so that it can be used for other projects. there is an Edit in photo option but this open the document in photo rather than the image. SO just wondering is there an option to open linked images or is it currently best to go to resource manager reveal linked image in finder then open that in photo, edit and resave.

    many thanks in advance

ps congrats on the release it is AWESOME!!!

My permissions problems were solved by limiting the number of fonts open at one time. Maybe that would work for you too.

You beautiful genius!!! That worked!! I deactivated the hundreds of fonts that I have activate and then reactivated the handful that I actually use and I can now save things in affinity and office. Man I had that issue for so darn long, and tried so many things. I thought the only way I was gonna fix it was with a new laptop :)

    Thank you so much!

  6. Hey there

I am pretty sure that this is just me, but I still can’t save affinity documents. I get a “you don’t have permission to create a file in that location” error I have had this since about affinity designer 1.5 and have tried multiple ways of resolving the issue without any luck . I can save affinity files if I log in as a different user on my Mac so bit that isn’t ideal. My Mac is getting quite old now 2012 MBP so that may have something to do with it. I am only mentioning it now because when I was using the beta versions I didn’t have that problem and I could open and save without any issues so I was super excited, but with the official 1.7 release it isn’t working again.

i’m not sure if anyone has any ideas ?

    many thanks in advance

  7. Hi there Dan, many thanks for your reply, and apologies for the delay. Unfortunately i’ve not had any luck with Wacom support. They suggested lots of things which ultimately didn’t solve the issue. I am figuring as there don’t seem to be any other Mac users experiencing the same problem it’s probably something unique to my setup, which is getting a little old (MBP 2012). I think that the Wacom support have run out of ideas and seem quite sure it’s not a hardware issue. So i’ll Probably live with it for now and hope that the issue is resolved when I upgrade my system next :) in the meantime I can assign hotkeys for the vast majority of the shortcuts I use.

    Many thanks again for checking.

  8. Hey everyone,

‘just wondering whether any of you fine folks have Wacom’s express key remote? And if so do your modifier keys work correctly in affinity designer and photo? For me only the space key acts as it should. The keys assigned to shift command and alt don’t seem to perform the expected actions. Would be great to know if anyone else has this problem.

i am also having this issue with clip studio and the adobe cc products so the affinity apps are in good company :). Apps that i’m Finding do  work with the Wacom EKR are Paintstorm Studio, MediBang, sketchbook Pro and mischief.

Any finding would be much appreciated. I am currrntly trying to troubleshoot this with Wacom tech support :)

    cheers, Dave

  9. I finally got AD back up and running after following this advice:

Hold down the option key and select Go  Library from the Finder menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following items, if they exist:

              Containers/com.apple.Preview

              Containers/com.apple.quicklook.ui.helper

              Group Containers/com.apple.Preview

              Preferences/com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist

              Preferences/com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist

              Saved Application State/com.apple.Preview.savedState

Log out and log back in. Launch the application and test.

    which i found here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7269642?tstart=0

Hopefully that's the end of that (fingers crossed)

  10. Hi R C-R,

Thanks for taking a look at the Pdf apologies for the formatting ;)

I also wanted to say once again thank you for taking  time to help troubleshoot this with me over the last few days, that was very kind of you.

I have sent an email to the Affinity team in hopes that they might be able to shed some light on this issue.

Thanks again and have a great day.

    Kind Regards

    Dave

  11. Hello again :)

I have just closed out all of my login items system preferences/Users/LoginItems and restarted. Still no luck.

I have attached a pdf from the activity monitor of all the processes that are occurring with only Affinity designer open. I don't know if there is anything there that could give a clue ?!

    Best regards

  12. Hi R C-R,

I tried that first option entering "sudo /usr/libexec/repair_packages --verify --standard-pkgs /" into terminal but received the following message:

    "sudo: /usr/libexec/repair_packages: command not found"

And also just to clarify I tried entering 'resetpassword' in recovery mode following the instructions of the other OSX Daily article but in Sierra I am unable to carry out step 4 as there is no hard drive icon or dropdown only the user icons and when I click those there is no option to "Reset Home Directory Permissions":

    Best Regards

    Dave

  13. Hi R C-R,

Thanks for your reply. I didn't try the first option that you mentioned yesterday as I am not currently having permissions issues on more than one user account but I will give it a go this afternoon.

So… just to clarify… I am only having these permissions issues on my main user account. I have another user set up and Affinity software is working fine there. All Affinity apps are in their default locations. All files that I am trying to open are saved in my user accounts documents folder, and I have checked 'get info' and I do have permission to read and write. I also tried duplicating one of my files and trying to open it from a portable hard drive just in case, but that didn't work either.

I will report back once I have tried the 'reset password' in recovery mode.

    Thanks again

    Dave
