Dear Affinity: There has been resistance in the developer community to porting apps to Linux, but now would be a good time. I think with ONE professional content creation company making the move, there would be a flood to the apps and platform.

If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the Affinity Store software it will check for updates and offer any available update. The latest update will install over the top of any earlier version, with no need to uninstall. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "Download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Designer for Windows) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Windows Store purchases and needs a product key).
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.

    Hi Publisher Forum,
Not sure if this thread is still open or anybody still available to comment. OK so now that Publisher is a paid product I want to be sure about PDF bookmarks before I pass up on the introductory offer. So, nobody foresees Publisher being able to create a bookmark, meaning the links in the left pane that show the document's structure based on the TOC, it's still the case I suppose?
I tested LibreOffice and it creates them from the TOC, so the feature can't be that difficult to implement, but I suppose Publisher is more for paper printing than digital publishing. I need to create manuals for monitor and tablet viewing only and the client wants bookmarks of course, not just a TOC at the start of the manual.
If anybody has feedback or news on this then please send it along, and thanks in advance.
    Regards, Kevin

    Hi There,
I would like to explain to Affinity product managers just why this is a critical feature, along with some better way to create "book" files.
I'm publishing books.  I don't write them and papers.  I have to send these out to 4 different teams to work on them.  The teams get PDFs. I cannot edit the PDFs bookmarkes, then receive feedback from the teams and then manually recreate the bookmarks again.
Please add this feature and let us know when it will be implemented.

I really, really hope an option to generate PDF bookmarks based on heading levels, just like Word can do, is introduced soon. Good job on the hyperlinked table of contents though.

I don't believe this is a hard thing to implement since they already support creating TOC I don't see a reason why not use the same tool to create bookmarks on PDF export.

We are pleased to announce a major update for the Windows release of Affinity Publisher, version 1.8.0
    Changes in this build
The changes in Affinity Publisher for Windows 1.8.0 (over the last release Affinity Publisher for Windows 1.7.3) are as follows:
    New Features:
Template support – save documents as template files to re-use time and time again, share templates across all apps and even access files on multiple devices through cloud storage. New document dialog – it’s now simpler than ever to find, create and manage document presets with customised, saveable presets and thumbnail previews. Updated PANTONE© library – work with a seemingly endless range of colours, including updated PANTONE© Color Bridge and PANTONE© Formula Guide solid palettes (coated and uncoated). IDML import – import InDesign® IDML files, including all text styles, master pages, guides, pinned objects and more, directly into Affinity Publisher. Live preflight checking – customise the app’s all new Preflight panel to receive live warnings for possible errors in your document, including poor image resolution, bleed hazards, overflowing text, spelling errors, missing images or font resources, and more. XLSX import – import spreadsheet data from Excel, Apple Numbers or LibreOffice in XLSX format as a standalone table or inline with your text frames. Document merge – merge multiple documents together into a single file and take advantage of text style mapping, index merging and master page control, whether you’re combining whole documents or selecting page ranges to import. Smart master pages – effortlessly swap master pages and migrate edited content from any page to a new master page layout in a single click without losing any of your work in the process. Collect resources – organise all image resources into a single folder location and share with others in your network. New Anchors panel – easily manage anchors in your document and create new ones from selected text. Text column dividing lines – add lines to separate columns in text frame settings. Many other improvements. Fixes

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in Help > About Affinity Publisher).
Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Publisher for Windows) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Windows Store purchases and needs a product key).

For the time being, I'm using this tool to import bookmarks into my PDFs. I make a text file with the bookmark title, level, and page and then insert it into the PDF after I generate it.

Additionally, FoxIt (free) PDF viewer allows you to create bookmarks using a UI.

Working on a book, 30.1MB, text only. A few limited embedded vector files. Worked great til yesterday, now Publisher crashes on an attempt to save.

    Anyone have any ideas?

GunnarRoxen got a reaction from MikeW in [IDML Implemented] How can I open Indesign (indd and idml) Files in Publisher?
I also long for the day when I can stop using the last Adobe product I use: InDesign as I've already made the leap to Affinity Designer and Photo. For me that would require the ability to import IDML and/or INDD files as I need to move over my collection of work if I am to finally cut the parasitic cord to Adobe.
As an aside: that is shocking to me that MacOS is just going to kill support for CS6. I'm on Windows 10 and I hope that doesn't happen yet though I'm wondering if I should make a virtual machine image to keep for the future. Adobe CreativeSuite isn't worth the money they gouge for it that's for sure...
Edit: Oh I meant so say - thanks for the link to that script and super thanks to the awesome work of the maintainer. What a godsend!
Edit 2: I've donated to the script maker and of course I forgot to mention I already preordered Affinity Publisher as I'm confident it will get there - I'm just excited!

    Hi,
call it a cosmetic issue, but to me it is an inconsistency: When you set up a new document, the input field for the top margin is found at the top right edge while it is positioned at the left bottom edge when setting up a new master page (see pics). Or is it just me who doesn't understand the reason behind ...
    Best,
    Volker
