  1. +1 Thank you for the info flavioteca! The site looks really useful, you can also load your own images to pattern and export from there too. Until Affinity gets it's own pattern maker, this will have to do for now, they even have a desktop app available for a reasonable price if you plan to use a lot.
  2. I just noticed this thread is over a year old… as of the latest beta the duplicate document feature has not been addressed yet. Can we look forward for this to be implemented in the near future? Lacking some sort of duplicate command seriously hampers our workflow. Thanks!
  3. Hello, Sorry to notice this so late in the beta process, but I'm not sure if this is by design or an oversight, but the line pressure curves control for strokes only seems to work for lines created with the pen tool, I attempted to create variable width strokes from a line created with the vector brush but it has no effect whatsoever. I thought this would work because on the stroke palette, the option is active for me to do this, it's just non-functional, at least in this latest release. Thank you.
  4. Hello, I am trying to figure out how to find the pantone # swatch used within gradients, there seems to be no way to get this kind of feedback anywhere… while you can isolate colors added to an object with a gradient, where is the pantone # info located to find later on once added in? Also noticed when adding a spot color swatch to a gradient, it's very hard to find a specific spot color quickly within the gradient palette without a list view showing the pantone numbers. Thank you
  5. Great update…… Just thought you should know that the tint slider for the colour palette when using spots has noticeably blurry text on the "Edit Global Colour" button. I am using a non-retina 2012 imac using El Capitan, perhaps, that has something to do with it? Thanks
  6. Hello, As of the latest beta (Oct 9th) I've noticed there is still a glaring usability issue when it comes to visual layer cues, particularly if a user has not visited a file in a lengthy period of time one would have to expand most grouped layers to remember what was locked or have hidden visibility. Usually when moving or doing some other edit with grouped objects or other selections, I thought this request could help… How about some sort of faint or ghosted icon that appears to indicate that sublayers exist with hidden visibility or locks that are active when the layer is collapsed? Thank you!
  7. Hello, thought this would be a good time to bring this up… Of course using the mesh warp tool on a vector object will raster it, but the option when right-clicking it shows up to "Convert to Curves"… no sense including a command that doesn't actually do anything and just becomes a waste of space and may confuse the user into believing a command is there that really isn't. Could this be greyed-out or removed in the future betas? Thank you
  8. Hello, I cropped my vector object (text converted to curves) using the vector crop tool… now I want to further edit the cropped version of the vector object now based on it's cropped shape. How do I "flatten" that crop mask without resorting to rasterise to continue manipulating it's shape? Thanks
  9. Sorry forgot to mention I was already aware of the jump to font ability (can be tricky if your mouse pointer wants it to jump elsewhere when hovering another portion), was just wondering if there was also an option to type a font name in a simple search box, like the old days. Thanks
  10. Hello, I'm really liking the changes made with the now palette versions of the type features, however besides scrolling to find a font, I often know exactly what font I want to use on a project, is there a way to just manually type in the first few characters and have Affinity auto-complete my font choice? I tried double-clicking the font selection field to hopefully activate it to character input mode, but seems the only option is to go through the dropdown menu, and find it not ideal in all instances. Thanks
  11. Hello, On my current project, I am attempting to remain Affinity software as much as possible, however, I ran into another task where I am glad I kept that copy of PS CS6 installed. In this current attachment, you'll see another example of why a "puppet" warp-like feature would be very valuable for solving design tasks like these. Please consider adding this feature to the roadmap or a similar "pins/tacks" to the liquify… this would be faster and more predictable than dealing with the whole thaw/freeze brushing operation. Thank you.
  12. I would also like to add that besides not being able to drag it out once nested, I'm also unable to re-edit the live filter/adjustments… although with right-clicking it, the option is there, but still does not work…… this would kinda defeat the purpose of the "live" part of it. However if you "release" the filter or adjustment back to the top stack, it's editable again.
  13. I enjoyed reading the points made above regarding Photo's development, figured I'd share some of my thoughts on this… Raw number in years of development cannot be compared apples to apples with Adobe's considering the resources vary quite differently between them and Serif, all the more reason buying Affinity software with your supporting dollars helps every little bit level that playing field even against a behemoth like PS. This will also continue capturing the attention of the news and creative blogs that helps gather even more exposure and awareness of this great software. Personally I think and I'm sure many agree it's easily the greatest photoshop replacement contender most have seriously took into consideration. Yes, Adobe does pitch that with renting their software, you'll have access to more updates frequently with the promise of immediate new features, but at the expense of another pricey monthly bill… however what they don't tell you is that it's effectively making you beta testers now more than ever with their now ramped up release schedules as it's easier for bugs to get through (as I've noticed more of nowadays), consequently, they also created a situation where they need to schedule those updates more frequently because the customer has to feel that their monthly costs are justified. Yes, I understand bugs are a regular part of the software world and no software is really 100% bug-free. Heck, they'll throw the whole kitchen sink at you if you want ALL their software…… perhaps there are ideal customers or studios where this is suited perfectly for, but not for the majority of us. I noticed that with the Affinity software this release situation is similar but without the subscription commitment and without the risk of having your files held hostage if you stop making the ongoing payments… you buy the software and you can "choose" whether you'd like to be a beta tester to get a peek of new features and bug fixes, or just stick with the current version if it works for you just fine. It's great not having something like that annoying (and required) adobe cloud utility using up resources and nagging about updates… oh, and heaven forbid you forget your adobe login on that 11th hour when it has to authenticate or your internet connection decides to take some shuteye. Photo is VERY impressive for a version 1 release as we all know, the continuing requests from pros to Serif shows that clearly many are upset at Adobe's future direction, but also that the tides are changing for creative software and Adobe's tools while mature are looking tired and many are ready and willing to completely move away from their trusted tools of many years for something that is fresher, works smarter and faster, while not all the features are there yet as many would like, with every release there's a new group of people it will reach where it's finally good enough to make the switch, for others it will take much longer… but for now I like many, are only one major feature or two away from finally pulling the Adobe plug. There are many other points I haven't mentioned, I agree the Adobe Cloud will continue to be perfect for most people's needs and in it's arena it's amazing in it's own right. With that said, I'm already noticing some of my creative colleagues get excited over the prospect of excellent alternatives for their art/graphics needs from smaller shops… such as Sketch which is more specialized and excellent for it's suited purpose.
  14. Hello, One feature request and one usability suggestion for the crop tool in Photo. 1) When cropping with the tool, I often change my mind and revisit cropping multiple times during a project, I've grown very used to using the escape key for just about everything with Photo (as the deselect command+D is still inconsistent too with vectors), yes you can press 'cancel' to exit operation, and I found pressing a tool shortcut or clicking on a tool will also cancel crop command, why can't escape key also work? Seems to work for everything else? Less mousing, the better, I always say. :) 2) Can Photo also include a "snapping" option checkbox for the crop tool? This would make things sooooo much faster and precise when trying to trim art with clear boundaries (like a photo with a fake picture frame, etc.) Thank you!!!!!!
  15. Hello, I was creating of set of cartoon clouds in Designer using the non-destructive object merge feature (awesome! and a huge time saver), however after a number of them were produced, I wanted to keep the "pressure" outline effect on them, however I did not want all of them to look the same to maintain the freehand look. With all the time-saving features in Designer, I hit a speedbump when it came to adding the pressure with the curves adding nodes in the palette as I had to select every cloud individually to "randomize" them manually. I would guess 99% of the time manual tweak is preferable but in cases like my cloud drawing task, a "dice-like" randomize curves feature could be very cool. Hopefully my screenshot better explains what I am describing. Would this be difficult to implement? Thank you
  16. Hello… I have often worked on documents with PS that are of very long (and narrow) format, when zoomed in, I find it useful to tap the "home" key to quickly bring me to the top of the document and vice versa with the "end" key for the bottom. Also great when assigned a dedicated key for graphic tablets. I realize this may sound rather silly as the Affinity programs already have various methods to navigate a document, but after giving it some thought, why leave out a basic option as the keys are already available on every keyboard? Would this be difficult to implement? At the moment, those keys do not seem to serve any function for Photo and Designer. Thanks!
  17. Thank you Hokusai, Suppose I shouldn't be surprised that other users have requested this ability to be added too. It's one of those seemingly simple functions all of us artists take for granted from other applications, but becomes apparent when it's not there.
  18. Hello Affinity team, I cannot tell if this is by design or just an oversight in regards to Designer and Photo… I am unable to add any guides to the document while any tool is selected other than the black arrow move tool. While working and wanting to quickly throw in a guideline, I find it to be an interruption to have to switch a tool just to add a guide to a specific location, I feel like it should always be available to drag onto the canvas at (well, almost) anytime. If a tool other than the black arrow is selected, the ability to add guides does work using the guide manager as a workaround, however using the guide manager is not nearly as fluid and can be cumbersome compared to the natural maneuver of just dragging it in where you want it. Tested using latest builds as of July 25, 2015 Thank you
  19. Hello everyone, I think I discovered a bug. 1) If you open an image directly (file>open or drag a jpg to the Photo icon) then select an area and then command+J, everything seems to work just as expected. 2) Make a new blank document, and DRAG an image (I tested with JPGs) onto the canvas whether from the stock photo palette or from the finder, then select with marquee and command+J the area… the entire layer duplicates when only the selected portion should. After all this, I realized I'm also not entirely sure how Photo is supposed to treat embedded documents with selected areas also, what's supposed to be correct behavior with that? Using beta build 1.3.1.26723 iMac 27" late 2012, 8gb ram, 1gb video, Yosemite 10.10.4 Hope that helps.
  20. Hello, I noticed for example when using the perspective tool, hitting the escape key will cancel the operation, but with the mesh tool it doesn't along with the crop tool. Some of this inconsistency, could use more work. Yes, you can click the "cancel" instead of apply on the toolbar, but some of us keyboard shortcut power users often prefer keyboard alternatives too as a lot of use multiple input devices, I feel that the escape key should always be accessible during instances like these. I haven't used it much yet, but the develop persona could possibly find use with this, so when a user attempts to do something in this mode but changes their mind, pressing the escape cancels the transformations and takes them back to the photo persona. VERY excited about the latest beta! Thanks
  21. Thanks MEB… Funny, for some reason my clipboard was not responding as stated earlier, I rebooted my machine and now it works, and it pasted in place. :) Do you know if the team is considering adding functionality to transfer only selected portions when duplicating layers, it's kind've an expected behavior with most photo editing software?
  22. Hello I'm not sure if this should be here under feature request or if it's just a usability issue… When making selections (luminosity mask, marquee, magic wand, etc.) of any pixel area and pressing command+J to duplicate the layer, the entire layer gets duplicated rather than just the selected portion intended to transfer over. I also tried to see if a workaround such as putting the selected portions of an image to the clipboard and just pasting in place to an empty layer… no dice. How are Photo users dealing with getting around with moving selected portions from layer to layer? I like the command+J method (like with PS) because I can quickly copy layer sections over and have it remain in place as the original layer, yes I can mask it and rasterise (to make mask clip permanent) and then go from there, but that's another added step I don't always want to use when doing quick comps. (automated actions could help in this scenario?) Thank you
  23. oooh, thank you Coranda… just tested as the workaround does work! But, Using the guides manager is not nearly as intuitive as just dragging it precisely where needed. Seeing the guides placed using the manager while the tool is active however does give me hope that it's possible this ability can be added after all in a later build. :)
  24. Hello… I've been using the "Perspective Tool" in place of the "Transform" feature that I use with Photoshop. While trying to skew and straighten images, I'm used to dragging in guides while the transform mode is active… However with Photo I'm finding that the perspective tool doesn't allow dragging in guides while active, I've been getting around this by predicting where I would want the guidelines before using the tool which is more work. It's very very convenient to just do this on the fly, as one doesn't have to cancel or apply just to go back to add in additional guides (or remove). I would assume this improvement would apply to the Mesh Warp tool also? What I'm asking, perhaps Photo overall should just allow guides to be placed onto the canvas even while certain tools are actively live. Thank you
  25. Hello, I've noticed for example that when importing colours and using list view, the names of the swatches are presented nicely, however when scrolling through a very long list of swatches and one does not remember the list order for specific colors, it's quite a chore to scroll up and down long lengths. Would you consider also introducing a "search" box so one can simply type the swatch name they are seeking? Thank you.
