harrym reacted to James Ritson in Malta 2017
Hey all, just wanted to share a few of the (many) photos I took during my holiday last week in Malta. We previously went to Malta in May of this year and liked it so much we went back! This time I brought some camera gear that I didn't chance taking last time, including a tripod, flash gun and portable light, so I was able to get some shots I would have previously struggled with.

First up is a long exposure panorama of Valletta from Sliema Bay:

Then, on our last night, having wound down and packed all my gear up, we were treated to one of Malta's occasional thunderstorms. I quickly unpacked and went up to the rooftop of the guest house to capture several long exposures, which I then composited into this:

We also got a ferry across to Comino, which was absolutely packed with tourists. A short walk later to the more arid areas, however, and I saw some tiny lizards:

Now, my partner is a bit of a poser (something she'll admit herself), but she doesn't usually like standing around to be photographed in the UK because it's quite cold. Give her some blistering heat, however, and she'll model all day!

We ended up doing quite a few photoshoots (I've only edited two or three images so far):

And finally for now, we visited the National Park which is an interesting little place in itself, but I discovered what seemed to be a disused rail yard across the road. I got a few photos of the area, but this one jumped out at me because of all the textures:

Anyway, just wanted to share a few photos, I'll possibly add some more when I get around to editing them (there's quite a backlog...) - thanks for looking and hope they give you some ideas!

I thought you'd like to have some, with all the continuing hard work on Photo and Designer.

I was cleaning up some seaside flowerbox rust stains from a building photo, for a website, and really having a problem with it on Adobe Photoshop CS6.  Cloning wasn't an option because of gradation and texture.

I gave your latest beta a whirl -- and what a difference. Your healing brush is markedly better. This because of its action, but also due to that small window you provide to show in detail where it's going to be applied. I could go right up to the edge of the dark box border and fix the off-white stucco wall, without dragging in color from the border -- and done in one pass, a few strokes.

I know you're proud of other image processing you've invented, and this one proves the point -- both the math and the UX. Very impressed.

    Kind regards,
    Clive

Thanks Mark I was aware of that page I'm not that lazy!
I don't see any windows CPU spec on those pages also that's not quite what I asked. That's a min requirements list for a client install I was asking about your testing environment. You may not want to say, if so no problem.
The only reason I ask is that I'm planning on specing up a new machine and starting with what you guys minimally use in testing would seem like good starting point.

harrym reacted to kaffeeundsalz in [AD/AP] Which units are valid in the scaling options of the Export Persona?
One thing that I really love about Affinity Designer and Photo is that you can export slices at multiple resolutions and scales from within the Export Persona. However, I really miss a comprehensive overview of which values and units I can actually enter inside the scaling field and what they mean. For example, I do understand that I can specify a scaling factor with a number followed by an x, so "2x" would give me an exported image twice the size of the original. I've also found out that numbers smaller than one, like "0.25x" are allowed.

But then, there are other presets available in the dropdown menu like "64p". What does the p stand for in this context? Does the list of available presets completely cover all of the valid units, or are there other ones that are not listed there? Which of these can be combined in what way and how do they affect the exported image? If I choose a width and height that doesn't fit the original aspect ratio, will the exported image be stretched or cropped?

I know that I could try at least some of this myself and see what happens,  but right now, the scaling options are a huge guesswork for me and I was just wondering whether someone who's already been experimenting with this could actually shine some light on it. I didn't have any luck with the help system or the tutorial videos. Also, the forum search didn't show me anything related to my questions, so should the requested info already exist, I apologise and would appreciate a hint on where to find them.

harrym reacted to PhilR in Feature Request: Selection of open images from panorama or stack windows
I'm using Capture One Pro 10 (MacOS 10.12.6) for my raw converter. Using the "Edit In..." selection in Capture One allows me to open my files in Affinity Photo and saves the changes back to the PSD or TIFF file created in the process. If I do this with multiple files for stitching, Affinity opens them in tabs, but I can't select the open images as the source for stitching. It would be nice to be able to select multiple open files from the panorama, hdr, focus merge or stack selection tools.

    Thanks,

I use three raw editors precisely because they are all different bringing different strengths to the party. Took me quite a while to get to grips with C1 but well worth the learning curve, fabulous for people. DxO great for prime not so good on some images particular backlit at times etc.

What particularly do you not like about the AP version? AP looks too warm to me, that's easily fixed it's also rendered softer which I prefer for a portrait rather than the over sharpened PS output. So that's one each  ;)

I'm going to go out on a limb here so more than happy to be corrected but I believe that the likes of Lightroom and PS apply a default curve to raws I guess to help people along but AP doesn't OOB. If any better informed could confirm/deny this I'd be most interested.

Personally I think the develop persona is a bit 'crude' for want of a better word, lacking refinement in tools and flow, I don't think it's really prime time yet but I really hope dream that at some point they will have a none destructive flow from develop to photo and back again! So I do agree that it's well worth keeping an eye on it to see how it develops

    Hi,

Any chance that in the future it might be possible to edit an image in the photo persona whilst having another image processing in the export persona ?
If so it's another reason why I think batch job processing should be in the export persona.
