I assume you actually mean, "when viewing the jpegs in Windows File Explorer..."

Curious, I've had Win 10 for many years and been using Canon .CR3 files since 2020.  In all that time I've never seen any sort of pop-up inviting me to download a viewer from the Windows Store.  However, there is an official MS Raw Image Extension available via the Windows Store:

    https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/raw-image-extension/9NCTDW2W1BH8?hl=en-us&gl=us

that enables File Explorer to display .CR3 files as image icons.  It's been available since 2019 but I do not have it installed.

The fact this extension predates my first use of .CR3 files coupled with me never seeing any unsolicited invites to download it (or indeed anything else) from the Windows Store would make me immediately suspect malware and I'd avoid the invite.

    Meanwhile, back at your problems.

    You mean now:

    • when you Right Click on a .CR3 file in File Explorer there is no option for 'Properties'?
    • even if you open Affinity (Photo?) and in there you click File | Open and find a . CR3 file, nothing happens when you click OK to actually open the file?

How about you uninstall whatever it was that you installed:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uninstall-or-remove-apps-and-programs-in-windows-4b55f974-2cc6-2d2b-d092-5905080eaf98

Does that get you back to where you were?

If so, you could then try again by starting from the page above for MS Raw Image Extension and clicking on the 'Get in Store app' button.

I tried it again this morning and everything works perfectly. I have no idea what caused the problem but as it has gone there's no way of trying to trace it. Thanks for your time.

  2. My R7 CR3 files have been opening ok in Affinity Photo 2 until I downloaded a Windows fix. In Windows folders the jpegs displayed an image icon but the CR3s just had the Affinity icon. Yesterday when viewing the jpegs in Windows I passed over a CR3 and a popup invited me to download a viewing fix from the Windows store. It downloaded and installed itself and the CR3s now show image icons. However I cannot open properties in Windows and the files won't load into Affinity. Any ideas?

  3. I am trying to print an A4 greetings card folded to A5. The setup looks just the same as for Publisher 1 until I try to print pages 1 and 4 (front and back) separately from pages 2 and 3 (inside). I need to do this as one side of the card is matt photo and the other plain card. I want to print all of one side, let them dry, then print the other side in large batches. As soon as I specify page ranges one half of the image disappears. I've attached images which show the problem. I'm using Windows 10.

  5. I have set up an Affinity Publisher template for submitting to Blurb for printing. The text is mostly set to 'Body' style which I have set up linked to 'Base'. The font I'm using needs a slightly larger leading than the font size. I've attached images that show my text styles set up for 'Base' and 'Body' and the effect on one of the spreads. With 12pt text and 12pt leading the text is a bit too bunched. Changing the leading to 12.5pt results in a leading equivalent of something like 16 or 18. It's the same problem if I change the fonts. There is a single master page which has no text boxes other than page numbers. Something appears to be overriding the styles but I can't see what. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  6. I have followed Charlotte T-Ms Spotlight tutorial on use of watercolour brushes but I cannot emulate her digital landscape example. Each layer of mountains has a sharp upper edge and the colour wash fades away from that. The next layer appears to be unaffected by the layer below whereas my attempts show a dark area where colours overlap. Is there a tutorial somewhere where which shows how Charlotte's technique is applied?

    Thanks in advance

  7. For anybody else with the same problem this did the trick:

    • In the search box on the taskbar, type settings, then choose it from the list of results.

    • Select System > Storage > This PC and then scroll down the list and choose Temporary files.

    • Under Remove temporary files, select the Previous version of Windows check box and then choose Remove files.

It takes a long time for 'Temporary Files' to list everything that can be safely deleted so don't think it's not working when nothing appears to happen.

  9. I have installed Topaz and Akvis plugins via the Affinity preferences screen. I know they'll only work at the moment in 8 bit but the individual plugins are greyed out if I try to use them on a tiff file. They're ok with jpegs but all my raw conversions are saved as tiffs. Also portrait images from my I-Pad open in the plugins as landscape; i.e. they are rotated by 90 degrees. All of the above work perfectly in Photoplus X8
