asdfghjkloiwdjoiioens got a reaction from malayali in Save for Web?
Exporting in Affinity isn't the same as Photoshop's 'Save for Web' feature. The whole point of 'Save for Web' is to optimise images for the web by removing a lot of useless metadata from the images like camera model, time, white balance, etc. This reduces image file size dramatically making it optimal for a web designers and developers.
Exporting JPEG files with Affinity Photo seems to reduce the file size more than Photoshop's 'Save for Web' feature.
But Photoshop's 'Save for Web' feature reduces a PNG file by roughly 30% more than exporting with Affinity Photo.
It would be great to have a similar feature in Affinity so users can preview the image as they're optimising it and get a similar file size to one that's exported from Photoshop using 'Save for Web'.

asdfghjkloiwdjoiioens reacted to MEB in Add option to show guides beyond the canvas area
Hi Braceyourself,
I was referring to Designer, not Photo as Chris B pointed out. My bad.
Please accept my apologies for the mess.
Thanks @Chris B

Hi Braceyourself,
Clip to Canvas isn't available in Affinity Photo and it does not have Artboards. I think it was assumed you were in Designer.
I'm not sure why has been taken out. I can't recall when they were visible however I'm going to check this out with development. It would be nice to have a setting in Preferences that allows the user to change how the guides are displayed.

asdfghjkloiwdjoiioens reacted to MEB in Custom Color Palette & Swatch Syncing
Hi Braceyourself,
There's no need to duplicate the swatches/palettes. You can export/import .afpalette files between Affinity programs. Not as simple as a sync but still a lot better than creating them from scratch.

Braceyourself,
Currently, you can export your colour Palette from Affinity Designer and Import it into Affinity Photo (and I would guess visa versa). I agree with you, it would be nice if there was a way to sync them but least it can be done with a few clicks!

Eventually. We are adding more PSD import features as we get the time.

I don't have a single document that doesn't use smart objects. It's the best way to manage multiple deliverables that all use the same resources... and when a client makes a change to one element it propagates to all documents. Also ensures the layouts are much smaller, especially when you keep all your revisions for archiving.

Great, +1 for SmartObjects / SmartFilters!
For me, SmartObjects is one of the best features in the last years of PS. Nearly every bigger PSD file of mine use SmartObjects.
And it's seems a good idea to me, to warn the user, if he will save a PSD with flattened SmartObjects inside Affinity Photo.

Braceyourself,
MEB's explanation is good but I added this just to give you a visual aid.

Hi Braceyourself,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Click on the small icon menu on the right in the Swatches panel to create your own palettes (second section on the menu).

Braceyourself,
Select the colour value that you want using the "Color" Palette and then click on the small palette options (it looks like 3 horizontal lines on the upper right side of the palette) you will see a "add color to swatch" and it will add the colour to your "Swatches" palette.

asdfghjkloiwdjoiioens got a reaction from deeds in Custom Swatches
Is there a way to create custom swatches?
I would prefer to create a separate pallet but I can't even drag a swatch to an existing one.
The color picker on the gradient FX tool is broken so I can't color pick from 'Recents'.
This is frustrating the bejesus out of me.
