It's really very straight forward and easy. Check out Affinity Photo tutorial on Non-Destructive Dodge & Burn.
Then link to that tutorial and many others by Affinity is found in one of these forums. Affinity Photo Tutorials
Also there's plenty of tutorials on YouTube.
  2. Thanks

    Demeisen...
If you have only moved the Curves line slightly, and have set the layer blend mode to Luminosity, you probably can’t expect to see a dramatic change. First, try opening your Curves layer(s) and really exaggerate the curve - drag it to the extremes. Does that change what you’re seeing visually? Second, Option-click on the Curves layer icon in the Layers panel. Is it all black with some white areas where you painted? Third, when painting with white, what are your Opacity, Flow, and Hardness settings? If they are too low, you probably won’t see the effect.
If that doesn’t help, reply with some screen shots, including your Layers panel stack, brush settings, etc.

Thank you! It's been driving me wild! Two months away from the app and it's like day one.

Well, at least it's now a searchable solution on the forum (for others as dense as me), so I'm not too embarrassed for asking ;-)

These are snapping candidate indicators. You can turn them off by unchecking Show snapping candidates on the snapping flyout panel …  :)

It's probably as plain as the nose on my face, but I can't see a way to return to the nice fading text frame in the release version. The Artboard has the same outline, as does Artistic text (tight around the letters). Any suggestions? It's really distracting me!

I really don't need exotic tools like animation. Today, I always need Illustrator for many tasks because these tools don't exist yet in AD.
    New tools :
    - gradient with shapes
    - deformers
    - simplify curves
    - offset curves

Some tools/functions must be improved :
    - point center : add it for symmetry and scale - add a button Reset for point center. Often, I'm looking for it.

    - magnetism : sometimes yes, sometimes no. Why all curves/shapes are not magnetics ? It's make me crazy.

    - add arrows like AI : all cotations for my drawings are still done in AI.

    - reshape a part of a curve with rotate or scale is almost impossible : Draw a cat (AD love cats !). Oh oh, the head is too small. Ok, select points of the head and…, and there is no bounding box or interactive scale tool for this. You must type values in the Transform menu. Not user friendly.
Oh, can you rotate a little the head of the cat ? OK, select points and…, and we can't do that ! It's impossible. Rotation is greyed. It's a nightmare. Keep cool man, you can do that in Illustrator in few clicks.
My AI CS5 is still the best friend of AD for this specific tasks.

After saying that, I must confess : Using AD is so good in another ways, I don't want to return with Adobe.

My second full-scale illustration with Affinity Designer.

This was inspired by the tasteless nonsense in Ubisoft's recent Ghost Recon Wildlands game. It might be the start of a set of 'Cartel' posters. Not sure yet. I had a blast making it thanks to the big performance improvements of the latest Affinity beta release. It feels almost as good as Xara now (yep, I'm another long-term Xara junky)!

Very excited about 1.6, especially as none of us seem to know quite what to expect :-)
