If it comes to a crappy AI based canva shit or abo like Adobe in the future, I'll go the same way like in the past and use V2 for ages like my old beloved freehand 10 until today on Windows 11! 😎🤙🏻
But I will never ever subscribe to any abo bullshit!
I also stopped working with capture one for this move last year and will use my latest stand alone as legacy version from now on...
If the companies and their management only thinking about profit maximizing with TikTok hipster users, ok, but that's not my kind! Im out and say good bye in this case!

We were sold version 2 on the understanding that all point releases would be free. If 2.5 turns out to be a paid upgrade, huge swathes of users will abandon ship.

Considering how many “funds” Canva has “raised” in the past few years and how many venture capital campanies are involved, I have a VERY bad feeling about this.
The forced marketing speech (“joining the family”, yeah, sure) in the announcement doesn’t halp.
I guess that it’s probably a good way for all Serif employees to get a nice retirement in 3 to 5 years, but it’s a buckshot in the face for me as a happy user and supporter of an independent company that makes professional software I use every day.

Canva is a subscription model, as Serif inform us themselves. So much for the 'No Subscriptions' tagline. We'll be 'allowed' to keep our current version, then from the next 0.1 revision we'll be offered a discount.

The writing is on the wall. Serif have sold out.

Yeah, I’ve not a good feeling about it.

That reads to me as, from v3 it’ll be different.

I really really hope we don’t get any Canva crap to deal with and subscription stays away. I’m not that loyal.

We’ve all been around the block and saw what happened to PaintShopPro when Corel acquired it (and how it turned into a bloated horrible mess). I feel sad that the Affinity apps will head in the same direction. Really is a sad day.

I love you guys, and I have a big load of respect about you, being a big evangelist of Affinity, but I'm not having a good felling on this. Canva is not what I could name a "professional software" partner. They want to be Adobe, not an adobe alternative.
The first insinuation of subscription model will break any trust on Affinity, and for the love of the goddess, I hope Affinity apps don't become a dumpster of stupid and crappy AI and cheap design tools that Canva really is.
I've read the FAQs you published… they don't give me enough reassessment that nothing is gonna change. Your company and your project is not yours anymore.
    I wish to be wrong.

The only question is whether Affinity will offer a subscription in the future? I have bought a lot of brushes for your software. Especially on the Ipad, I am not willing to pay any subscription fees. I have purchased your software twice (v1. & v2). You say there are no plans for subscriptions at this time. But just wait until the Canva bosses change their minds, because greed is a virus in upper management. RIP, Adobe Alternative.

Hofnaar reacted to Ash in Affinity is joining the Canva family
    Hi All,

I am thrilled to announce that Affinity is joining the Canva family.
This is a moment of great excitement, anticipation, and profound gratitude for all of you who have been part of our story so far.
We know that those of you who’ve put your faith in Affinity, some since we launched our very first Mac app, will have questions about what this means for the future of our products. Since the inception of Affinity, our mission has been to empower creatives with tools that unleash their full potential, fostering a community where innovation and artistry flourish. We've worked tirelessly to challenge the status quo, delivering professional-grade creative software that is both accessible and affordable.
    None of that changes today.
In Canva, we’ve found a kindred spirit who can help us take Affinity to new levels. Their extra resources will mean we can deliver much more, much faster. Beyond that, we can forge new horizons for Affinity products, opening up a world of possibilities which previously would never have been achievable.
Canva’s revolutionary approach to design democratisation and commitment to empowering everyone to create aligns perfectly with our core values and vision. This union is a testament to what can be achieved when two companies that share a common goal of making design accessible and enjoyable for everyone come together.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to our incredible Affinity team. Your passion, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence have been the driving force behind our success so far, and I can’t wait to continue this journey with you all.
To our loyal users and the creative community, your support and feedback have been invaluable. You’ve inspired us to push boundaries and continuously improve, and we’re excited to embark on this new chapter together.
The future is bright, and I am incredibly excited to continue our story together and create a world where design is within everyone's reach.
    With heartfelt thanks,
    Ash

It is unacceptable that these are not CONSISTENT across all selection tools.
SHIFT is almost universally the ADD to selection modifier in MOST SOFTWARE.

Hofnaar got a reaction from walt.farrell in When will u finally fix the terrible lagging and performance of all V2 Apps?
thanks for the answers... Im at a very frustrated point right now...

please read the forum, many people have this issues since V2 with lagging or randomly freezings by simply using fonts or the tools. On windows systems and also with apple... only with V2 apps... So it is maybe a structural problem and of how the apps were programmed.
I am using windows 10 and windows 11, intel based systems right now with fastest retina settings, without Open CL. But it is no difference with it...
I already tried all the solutions and Tips here incl reinstall, reset the apps or deactivate the Open CL and so on... nothing helped .
The apps starting very slow (over 30s to 1min.), I get randomly freezes and/or "not responding"s by using fonts and have to wait around 10 to 30 sec to work again or it is randomly lagging and not responding by using tools...

I finally want to know when the problem will be adressed and fixed???

It started a few days ago but has now stopped me from being able to do any work. No matter what file I open, the first time I attempt to move anything or place anything new, the CPU usage rises and nothing happens. Sometimes, a very few amount of the total times, it will finally do what I wanted after 5-10 minutes, but then the next thing I attempt does the exact same thing and that time it will just force me to exit. I am using Windows 11 with all updates and also the latest version of Designer. I have changed the performance settings to not use hardware acceleration and then changed it back with no differences.

It's utterly absurd that this is still a problem—and yet it is.
This startup delay is literally driving Affinity customers to use the competition when the rest of the app is perfectly fine.
I can't think of a bug more needlessly problematic for retaining customers.

Just for the record, there are other, (much) larger universal apps (Ableton, Adobe, Unity, etc) that don’t have this problem at all. The Affinity apps are the only apps that I’ve experienced this problem with.

It took about 5 app-starts and then it was slow again. Clearing helps, but then the issue appear again and again. Is this common behaviour?

I know you said it is working properly now but the apps should not be continuously trying to access Affinity's servers, so if there was any indication that was happening, it might be a good idea to try to figure out why they were.

We are with V2.2 now and it is still the same shit. Slowing down randomly, hanging and lagging... it is terrible to work with!
I deactivated Open CL, I deactivated Retina, I made the undo limit smaller... nothing helped on Windows 10 and 11.
Is it maybe, because the apps always try to call the affinity servers in the background?

Hofnaar reacted to Ash in Crop Tool improvements
    Apps: Photo
    Platforms: Windows, macOS and iPad
A number of improvements have been made to the crop tool based on customer feedback:
Crop to selection. If you have a pixel selection active the crop tool will now initiate to be a min fit around the selection you have. After a crop the current zoom level will be maintained (rather than automatically zooming to fit as previously). From various feedback this was considered preferable behaviour and leaving it to the user to choose if they want to zoom to fit after (cmd-0 or hitting zoom icon in the top toolbar of iPad). The Crop tool now remembers the last setting globally, so if you wish to apply the same ratio crop to a number of images it's much easier. You can now drag anywhere on the bounding box edges to resize the crop, rather than having to drag from a handle. Enter as well as Return will now commit a crop Escape will reset the current crop In unconstrained mode, holding Shift will constrain the current aspect ratio and Cmd (Ctrl on Windows) will resize around the centre When you rotate / use straighten feature in crop tool it will now automatically adjust crop box to fit. Please let us know what you think or if you spot any issues or have any feedback on this new behaviour.

The one thing I liked about Adobe PhotoShop's timeline was that you could perform simple timeline animations using keyframes on layer/object properties which means, for each layer you could keyframe difference on:
X&Y position of layer (including under a mask to make something disappear) Alpha % Visibility (on/off) Being able to do this would allow you to create one time or looping animations of a UI to simulate UX quickly.  You could also create cool little simple character looping animations. I don't think it should ever try to compete with super complicated timeline animation tools for animation. That would be an entirely different product. But simple property in-betweens (tweens) over time would be nice.
