AiDon reacted to Alfred in Affinity, we need clarification: are you or aren’t you working on a DAM?
I feel the same way, but it seems that some people find the idea of a tightly integrated set of tools particularly attractive.

AiDon got a reaction from Alfred in Affinity, we need clarification: are you or aren’t you working on a DAM?
I wonder if the people wanting Serif to create a DAM, unusual for a pixel editor, would pay for it ... and how much.
Personally I don't see the value of a DAM for AP. There are so many explorer alternatives available for free now ... Adobe Bridge, IrfanView, XN-View , etc., etc.

The RAW Image Extension, like the Mac Core Image Engine, is only in Beta and available on the Insider Previews. It will be a while before it is available and applications will be able to use it.

AiDon reacted to MEB in Serif's History and longevity (The next Great thing)
Hi Dennis Nisbet,
This is not correct. All staff members you see here on the forums (look at the badge below the avatars) are Serif employees from the Support and QA teams, Management & Developers teams, Marketing teams etc etc. You are talking directly with the people who work on the software.

AiDon reacted to Chris26 in Serifs approach to development (split)
The americans, who actually were the french, German, Italian, BRITISH, Spanish and DUTCH fought this war to throw off the shackles of Business and trade tied to England, not 'thinking'. And besides, history teaches us what we should have learned from History, empires fall, collapsing mostly from within as opposed to invasion, and America is hardly Leading the world, her dominance is more by force due to the fact that her empire is also collapsing.

AiDon reacted to MEB in Affinity products for Linux
Hi rozaliakiepska,
Welcome to Affinity Forums
There's no plans for a Linux version.

AiDon reacted to axoloth in Affinity lost match against Luminar... again !
Luminar has just announced that its latest version offers the functions of catalogs ...
When will the Affinity team understand that this tool is important?
I know a lot of photographers, amaters or pros, who stays at the competition unnaturally because of that ... and others, like me, who is thinking about coming back to Adobe or going to another competitor ...

AiDon reacted to Mark Ingram in Great software, but why the odd workflow choices?
In that case can't you just change the shortcut for the other tools? i.e. remove 'B' from 'Pixel Tool', etc.

AiDon reacted to R C-R in Does Affinity collect and send data from computers?
Be that as it may, if you really want to understand what the policy is, you need to read the whole thing carefully ... or at the very least consider what terms like "anonymous" & "personal data" mean. You do not need a law degree for that.

AiDon got a reaction from toltec in Affinity Masking vs Topaz Remask 5 Windows 10
Have great results from ReMask, as with any other product it comes down to learning to use the products. But AP has great masking tools.

AiDon reacted to Arte in Please Lightroom Replacement!
To be honest I'd rather have Serif focus on completing Designer, Photo and Publisher (especially Publisher) to get all the (sometimes still missing) basics working without problems. Besides, I think they have more than enough on their hands with these three programs to spend much time on a DAM program so I wouldn't expect it soon.
Lightroom is not really what I would call a proper DAM, it is way too much focused on photography assets to be useful for other files as well, and I already use a dedicated RAW editor so a Lightroom replacement from Affinity would not be high on my list for quite a while. At least not until the RAW editor in Photo is a good match for Lightroom/ACDSee/Capture One etc. It isn't bad but still not at the same level.

AiDon reacted to walt.farrell in Why bother?
All except your first two posts have been made on what is the weekend for Serif (who are located in the UK, primarily).
The first two are somewhat unfortunately timed, as they occurred shortly after Serif returned to work after a company Christmas break that ended on January 2, so they're probably still catching up.

AiDon got a reaction from All Media Lab in Topaz Remask 5 works as plugin in AP
For Remask to work there is a a necessity to recover the Alpha Channel from the Background Alpha and you will also need to Rasterize a portrait orientation layer before you pass it to ensure it remains in portrait. Read this thread on the Topaz Labs forum:

AiDon reacted to bill hansen in Add Topaz Denoise as PlugIn?
AiDon - I got DeNoise 6 itself, outside of Topaz Studio, into the Filters of AP. Feels like a victory - Thanks for your help!

AiDon reacted to MEB in Images being rotated 1.7.0.209
Hi digitalgene,
Welcome to Affinity Forums
This is a known issue that's already logged to be looked at. If you right-click the layer in the Layers panel and select Rasterise before using the plugins it should be displayed properly there.

AiDon reacted to Frozen Death Knight in 3D ability to compete with Photoshop!
I can understand if you would like to have 3D in Affinity Photo, but it "needs" it to compete with Photoshop? I really don't think so. There are other programs that handle 3D texturing and modelling a lot better than Photoshop (including the example given in your post), and the feature is honestly a typical example of feature bloat from Adobe's end (it is a very underdeveloped tool compared to other 3D programs). No serious 3D modeller nowadays is going to use mainly Photoshop to paint their models or create stuff like text with 3D effects on it simply because it lacks a lot of essential features to handle things like PBR (physically based rendering), among others.
If you want to use 3D in your work you can check out actual 3D programs like Maya, ZBrush, and a bunch of other alternatives that are specialized at handling 3D. Heck, I would strongly recommend picking up Blender, which is a free 3D program that is currently developing 2D animation tools in a 3D environment as a part of its latest beta build, which can greatly compliment any image editing program. If Affinity wants to get into the 3D business, they should honestly be focusing on getting better addon support by other 3D softwares like ZBrush by making it easier to export UV maps directly into AP like how it is with Photoshop for some final texture editing, and/or make a new brand of software focusing on 3D like Substance Painter.

AiDon reacted to Chris B in HDR Merge (209 Beta)
Hi AiDon,
I logged an issue against the Windows version for HDR merging last week. On one machine, it completely locked Windows and required a hard reboot and on my machine (lower spec) it oddly pushed through after a 20 minute fight but it took so many resources from my machine, I had to soft reboot.
I've updated the bug report with your info—thank you.

AiDon reacted to altae in Product Key
And why don't you simply enter the e-mail address you used to purchase the software and the product key you received after your purchase? As others have already mentioned this should fix the issue.

AiDon reacted to Alfred in Product Key
Thanks for that. I remember it originally wasn’t possible for users of the Microsoft Store versions to run the betas, but I knew they had subsequently sorted things out. I just wondered whether something might have got messed up with the latest versions.

AiDon got a reaction from sbp in Capture One Pro v12 integration
You could argue about this forever, DNG is a public standard launched in 2004,
AfPhoto is a proprietary standard for Affinity
and PSD is a proprietary standard for Adobe.
And why not add APhoto support to Lightroom, On1 RAW, Luminar, etc., etc

AiDon reacted to myclay in Serifs approach to development (split)
Hello John, your words are harsh and straight out hostile, i hope that its just a misunderstanding that you are attacking others personally.
There is an "infinite amount of users" its the human population growth which is growing each year.
Even if there where a theoretical saturation of consumption, Serif would then release a new version - a paid upgrade and the sales begin again.
Serif hasn`t even begun yet in catering to at least ~1 billion potential customers which would happen if RTL writing was available inside the Affinity range.
Here an image showing the distribution of just one of the many scripts(here is the Arabic script distribution) which happen to be RTL writing, there are more scripts like Hebrew which also is RTL.
Subscriptions are like renting a house, you won´t get attached to the area/product and can and will probably move on to other areas/prodcuts like you dear John are doing while abandoning the Adobe renting area.

AiDon got a reaction from telemax in Serifs approach to development (split)
Why would you want another company to be a mirror image of Adobe? As a photographer I don't see Adobe's products as leaders in the industry, maybe Adobe has a larger market share through judicious purchases, but the functionality of Affinity Photo is superior to Photoshop, Capture One superior to Lightroom, Illustrator and InDesign are ho hum. I think that the important thing is that there are alternatives, read 'alternatives' and that is real 'alternatives', and not copies of Adobe products available in the market.
In my case I really like the functionality of Affinity Photo and currently it is the best product out there, with Photoshop coming second by a long way.
